liar

Saw Jane Yee reviewing the new Queens of the Stone Age album on M2, and boy did she get shit wrong. She said Dave Grohl played guitar on the record. He played drums. You can see that in the video they play. She said the singer's name was "Josh Holmes". She described the album as "sonic lullabies". LULLABIES?
Maybe I'll get flamed by all the JY fanboys who post here, but I slightly resent clueless people getting free CDs and giving their clueless opinions to others. But I guess she pre-redeemed herself when she called Moby a fag a few minutes earlier.

Forums: NZ Music,

Thank you for pointing that out Physiopath. I am well aware he plays the drums and not the guitar, however sometimes people make mistakes. I made a mistake and it's live television - not a lot you can do to change it once it's happened. Whoops sorry, it was a freudian slip. If you had continued watching you would have seen me retract that, but I guess my cluelessness made you turn off your telly - I can hardly blame you.

Bear in mind that a review is a personal opinion, so yeah, it was my opinion that the album is sonic lullabies ie. strong, hard, sonic riffs with swooning vocals (that's where the lullabies bit comes in - not because I think it's sleepy music). Just my opinion.

I appreciate that as a music television host I will be judged by what I say on air. It's a shame that you have such little tolerance for human error. Just for the record, I think it's a great album.

You still around, Jane? As you were doing the review, giving it 4/5, I somehow started to wonder what albums you might have given a solid 5/5 to? And I know how easy it is to slip up on air - hell, I sent people to a gig in Wanganui that was actually in Napier - and, unlike physiopath, I heard your correction later on.

i like jane; and not in a thinking with my dick kinda way,
(although she is good eye candy) (hope u dont feel degraded by that comment Jane)

anyway shes a fucken good presenter and id like to see u do better Physiopath. (dickward)

i like jane i like jane alot. even if she does like muse

man. we live in a harsh and unforgiving country...

...and what the hell is wrong with muse???

um do i even need to answer that????

ahh...yeah...i like muse. :P

i like muse too

Yeah Muse are a good band

sorry but - ewwwwww- muse?!

i like muse!

I like muse too:P

yeah muse is good, i have to be in teh right mood to listen to them now though, in teh wrong mood they can just be really annoying.

the guy who hosts ALT kept calling trail of dead , trail of THE dead. Which really annoyed me. haha.

I am just kidding Who cares. I mean they all do a good job really.

nit picking is boring.

didnt even notice that mistake on alt. maybe because trail of dead doesnt quite sound right when you say it.

if we really want to nit pick. every bailterspace song they play they say it is off solar 3. So they play these beautiful bailterspace songs but say they are off the shit pooo ablum called solar 3.

i think physiopaths point was that people should know what they are talking about. Was it a slip Jane or did you not know and then realise or was told later. One thing that bugged me from Jane was that she reviewed an album i forget which one and she gave it two ratings. How can you rate an album twice. She had a review and a personal review, aren't they the same thing jane? Also for the Coldplay album i heard her mention that parachutes was like a collection of songs while the new album is a worked album. I think, (this is not a critisism) that parachutes has one of the best 1 & 2 track combinations i've heard on an album.

I think the team on m2 do a good job but glen bugs me sometimes, but he knows his stuff or reads up well so ..respect.

I can see where Physiopath was coming from, and I entirely agree that people who are presenting music shows (whether it be radio or TV) should know what they're talking about. The Dave Grohl thing was a slip, aside from knowing he played drums on the album and on tour - I've seen the video many times and he's quite obviously playing drums. I didn't even realise I'd said it (otherwise I would've corrected myself instantly) - someone else pointed it out. I felt like a dick (especially because I knew) and then corrected what I'd said and apologised. Am I flogging a dead horse here? You'll have to take my word for it. Or not. Up to you.

The two ratings thing was just a throwaway "I think the general consensus will be x/5, but personally I reckon it's more x/5". It wasn't 2 reviews, just 2 ratings. I'm sure that doesn't make it any better, but I was just saying people will like it because of who it is, not how it sounds.

As for Coldplay (I have done a lot of offending, haven't I?) I'd give both Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head 5/5. I just think the latter flows slightly better while Parachute has stronger stand-out tracks. Again, that's just what I think.

Apologies to all for my stuff ups. I know it can be annoying when people get things wrong (and I'm not being sarcastic).

jane dont worry about. we are all geeks

Andoru got it right. I started this thread on a Saturday night. I wasn't out, I was in front of my computer on a Saturday night.

Yeah it's annoying when people get stuff wrong, but talking in front of a camera with lots of bright lights on you makes it much easier to slip up I'm sure. Tell you what, I think I wasn't annoyed by your mistakes so much as you waving that album around making me go "I wish I had that CD and I don't yet. She's does. Grr."

I hope you're doing Squeeze next year Jane?

Get the album. It's good. I'm sure you'll love those sonic lullabies (ha!). But seriously, you're obviously a fan and you won't be disappointed. If you haven't already, read the article in NME as well, it's interesting.

All going well I will be doing Squeeze next year.

And trust me, I hate it when I screw up more than you do... : )

Fuck yeah the new QOTSA album is awesome, comes with a DVD which is awesome too.
They are really just a 2 piece band (Nick & Josh) with a revolving door of musicians - Dave (who is back with the Foo Fighters now), Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) vocals, and on tour now - Troy Van Leeuwen (Perfect Circle) guitar & Joey Castillo (Danzig) drums.
Also they're going to be on Letterman this Thursday night!!

Jane Y ur too sweet and nice i feel bad about what i said even tho i wasn't really offended just confused and curious. The coldplay thing was just something i found you know that the 1 & 2 tracks are one of the best combinations, i thought it was condtradictory to the whole collection of songs thing but in a funny way. Don't you think the combination is excellent? The the Don't panic softness that bursts into shiver.

Don't feel you have to apologize, gee you do a good job and i'm saying this in an honest way i'm upset about the bjork comment on m2 site but it's just i want everyone to like bjork as i do, oh well.

Again i feel like a dick cause ur so nice and humble about it.

What do you think about my show Svenz Stuff? Do i have shot, the people seem to like me i'll make a point to give out wrong information once a show a kind of tribute to Jane. Just jokes svenz just kidding a little wink wink at ya.

http://www.msnusers.com/svenzstuff ]

Looks like we've all come out of this feeling like dicks! But look, we're all still getting along, so that's nice.

Sorry I upset you by saying Bjork's not my bag - but what a boring place this world would be if we all liked the same stuff.

You're show idea is fantastic. I particularly like the 'stuff-up tribute' idea - maybe it would make me look like less of an arse.

yo jane. can u tell me how u got into music presenting. im quite interested in pursuing a career in music journalism or music tv. any tips or people i can get in touch with to get some info?
ta.

Hey Benny, I heard about m2 and applied then auditioned. I have a radio background so I guess that helped too. Squeeze just came off the back of m2.

Radio is a really good place to start - the best thing to do is volunteer at a local station for promos, mid-dawn shifts, whatever you can get. You might have to work for free for a bit, but it's usually pretty fun, and in my experience they tend to appoint jobs to people they already know and in turn those people already know how the station works.

Good Luck...

The funniest fuck-up on air I ever heard was on Juice TV. This puppet talking about the Dandy Warhols gig.........

He says - "did you guys go to see the Dandy's last night?"
red haired chick - "no, was it good?"
"Yeah - wicked gig man, my pick was Last Junkie on Earth - that rocked the house."

cool dude - except of course that they never played it.

Jane Y - I think you're great. And I liked you on the DOT.

That's one hell of a memory you've got on you Lemonade!

I have very fond memories of the Dot - not only did it give me a good kick in the right direction, it also played brilliant music. R.I.P.

Hey, I remember the Dot! I remember driving home on 1 January 2000 and wondering why there was all this R&B music playing and then I realised that they'd changed formats over night. I miss it. Such a good selection of music.

All this talk of reviewers offending fans reminds me of some teen music magazine I used to read when I was 13. There'd be a bad review of an album and some highly upset fan would write in with comments like, "you shouldn't write bad things about a band because someone who likes that band might be upset by what you write!!!"

Yeah, there are some people who are reviewing albums who probably don't know enough to be able to do a good review. But I think Jane seems pretty intelligent and she's a bit of a music geek (that's a good thing), so I value her opinions.

Ms Yee took a bit of time to for me appreciate her as a presenter, but now I'm (eek!) a fan. It's so much better to see someone who is a genuine music lover, who knows stuff about the videos that are being played, unlike that Renee chick who doesn't really seem to be all that interested in or care much about the videos she presents.

http://www.secret-passage.com/ ]

I had some exposure to Renee in a different context today - she does an hour or so at lunchtime on Bfm. My connection was a bit wavery so I couldn't listen for long, but her presentation on the radio seemed so much stronger than on TV - maybe she's a bit over-awed by it all, is going to take time time find her feet?

I think my one and only difficulty with Jane (and this goes for pretty much every music show presenter) is that I grew up in an age where to do a music show on TV, you had to be a bit of a freak - who can remember Dick Driver or Karyn Hay in the old days of Radio with Picures and then the even freakier Max Headroom. Current presenters just seem so nice and normal, you want to share an ice cream with them!

Bring back the Jonathan and Paris Show (The unpronouncable symbol show.) It was a good old time, ahh memories.

where do you all get the time?

for what?

hi,
in aus the best music presenteris probably dylan lewis (though he is a bit of an attention seeker), or Yumi from channel V. Appart from that they all annoy me a bit, like one of the guys on chanel v once said he didnt like frank black because he was too fat and his back was hairy...wtf.

Jane: they showed the audition tapes of the Channel V presenters and they were saying crap like ' the hat i am wearing is was made of my pupic hairs knitted together and then died white'
what?! did you have to say 'whacky' stuff like that too

Frank Black is a legend but yeah he is a bit of a tub

This has got to be a record of some kind, the most posts in a single thread recently that doesn't feature a message from St. Lucy. Does St. Lucy have like a website or something where I can perhaps download mp3s from?

Hehe
