All ages in Hamilton

Pissed off with the lack of all age concerts in Hamilton, me and a mate are going to try and do something about it. Any ideas/Prior attempts that you guys could tell me about?

i'd have to agree with you there. the thing is that there isnt anywhere to have them. the meteor, youthzone......thats about it really. i think we need to get some more venues for all ages gigs as well.
you can always try and get local bands to play...my friend is trying to organise a gig at the moment.

That's two venues more than the North Shore has in Auckland.

Oops, that was replying to guitar-girl.

That's awesome Minuteman that you guys are doing something bout it. Don't rely on anyone important to do it.. doing it yourself is the best way.

Visit www.localoutput.com - It's our attempt at getting shit happening on the North Shore. We spent over a month trying to find a hall we could hire out to have bands playing but we got rejected from every one except two who charge $500 and then security on top of that for a venue that holds 100 people (which isn't enough to break even). Seriously! We went through the entire list of every hall/venue on the shore! One place told us that noise was not an issue, it was more having young people organising the event, saying that we had to have someone over 25 to organise it. But they wouldn't let us hire the venue.. even with one of the guys from our group being 24.. he was just about to run for parliment at the time, yet he wasn't old enough to organise an event at their venue.

Anyway, my advice is that you get the cheapest venue and do everything cheap the first time, saving profits for the next event. And just work your way up

Cheers for that Angsty, it’s a help. We were thinking about the meteor, fortnightly on sat nights. Any ideas on what the costs etc would be?

Meteor could be cool, get the council to help because they kinda "Own" it, which kinda means that you kinda "Own" it, tell em fuck if they make you pay normal hireage fees. It's not like you are gonna make a million bucks from it. Also, I suggest "Ward Lane", it only costs about $200 to book it, get a few mates to come and the door charge will cover that cost. Short of asking your school if you can have it there, those are the only ideas I got. HOWEVER, as the meteor is right across the road from the police station, AND the "Blue Light Disco" thing seems to be happening again, why don't you ask them (The "Pigs") to get involved. I'm sure it would make the council more inclined to be generous with their space. Whatchu reckon?

yes go have a talk to the council, i have no idea what hamilton is like but in nelson they have just put out a booklet on how to orgainze an event, including forms for applying for funding
It's a pretty helpful wee book full of tips, on things like how to promote thru to a budget planner and a things to do checklist. If you don't have a similar thing up your way shout out and i will work out how to get a copy to you.
Hey and good luck.

Thanks Aka, can you e-mail me at minutemaniv@hotmail.com and i'll get back to you with my address.

Oh, and also, if you have anything you want to send to me, can you please do it to the above address.

The council pointed us to their newly started up youth council. We have been to talk to them on numerous occations asking for them to get involved. They all sound really keen.. and say they want to help out. This has happend twice, taking their details and saying we'll send them an email to organise a meeting or something and only TWO of them reply!

I know a few people in the north shore youth council and they're all keen as. They actually got given $10000 to put on an event using one of the shores biggest venues (fits 1000 people). It all seems like a lost cause. They had the money, venues and dates but it never happend... the main guy they stuck in charge wanted to spend $6000 on sound and lighting! That's cool and everything.. but then they only had $1000 for everything else after they'd paid for the venue as well.

The council has said we (local output) should be given some money from the council to put on an event and if we put on an event with the youth council we could use some of the $10000 they had been given for their thing. So we organise meetings with the events team to put on an event and two people turn up.

Local Output has put on 10 successful smaller events, selling out the past 3. Our last event was a fashion show/competitition for high school students.. it was hell turning away the people who couldn't get in. We did that on a budget of about $600. It sux that the youth council automatically get $1000 just because they're the youth council, and they don't even know how to use it!!!

This shit frustrates the hell out of me!
