Teina, why shouldn't Christians be represented in parliament? If it is fine to have representative politicians pushing Maori issues, or gay issues, or environmental issues, or business issues, why is it suddenly so wrong to have representatives for a sizable portion of the New Zealand population? I thought the whole point of MMP was to give all the minority groups in New Zealand a voice. Let's not also forget that they had to be voted in in the first place, meaning people wanted them there. If there was a political party touting blatantly racist lines for example (some would argue there already is...), and enough people voted for them, then it doesn't matter if you or I don't like it, because the point is that enough people DO like it. It's what democracy is all about. WILL OF THE PEOPLE. If you don't like that, why don't you go find a country that was built on communist ideals, and is governed by a few of the intellectual elite telling the humble proletariat what they can and can't do.

Any "bigotry" I might have towards the Christian faith is as a direct result of being confronted on a daily basis withm their beliefs - the example I gave was this idea that we are all sinners and can only be saved, and the particular form of christianity being espoused on that day is the way to be saved. If a complete inability to believe in "God" and the Christian way, seeing the whole superstructure as ludicrous is bigotry, then so be it. Democracy, as it has been practiced here until recently and wherever it relies upon a simple majority, has a history of being less than kind to minorities and those who do not conform to prevailing tastes and standards. MMP, in allowing more small parties get a vote, goes some way to redressing the problem.

Yes, because lumping a huge amount of people into one group based on your experiences with an extreme minority of these isn't bigoted or ignorant or plain moronic. On this same point, anarchists, atheists, vegans/straightedgers, and environmental activists are all complete idiots and incapable of coming up with logical arguments. As the Green party is made up solely of these groups they should not be allowed in parliament and their opinion is worthless, despite how many people voted for them.

You contradict yourself. United Future is a party that got 10% or so of the vote; it is a minor party. If you are so against the situation in which they are allowed into parliament, then you are against MMP, because this is the system that it could be argued gives smaller parties too much power and allows them to "hold the country to ransom" (and other such rhetoric). The situation here you seem to be so vehemently against would never have happened under FPP - in fact, it is situations like these that are the whole point MMP was introduced.

Whether or not the party website says it, the news media (rightly or wrongly) has been reporting members of the United Future party as having the policies that you accuse pitchblack of inventing. She perhaps makes an error in reading the views of individual members as party policy.

As for "WILL OF THE PEOPLE" - instead of saying to people to leave the country to some hypothetical place, why not recognise that we do have the right to question the validty of the democratic process, right here in this country, if we think that the results it produces sucks? We have been lucky that we have not voted in our very own Adolph Hitler, but it is a vulnerability with the system. Nor can I see any problem with challenging the rights of christians to Parliamentary seats, and voting accordingly - my personal view is that there is no difference between christianity (and its quaint belief that we are all born sinners and need saving by some mythical omniscient but pretty much useless on a day to day basis being) and widespread mental illness. You won't agree, but I don't think you have the right to stop me expressing my view.
