Forums: The Bar,

ow? wtf is that?

Hi Everybody,
I know most of you hate these kinda “Group” thingys, so if any of ya are particulary offended just write back and ask me to stop and I gladly will. Please forgive if offended, and I hope you will notice that I havent done it for ages and don’t plan on doing it for a while so, um, yeh. But I thought it’s high time I let the people I like/love/used to fuck know what I’m doing.

Where to start? The kids are ok. Te Aroha has dropped Basketball in favour of hockey, Picture books in favour of Harry Potter and good music in favour of some thing called “Shakira” (What the hell is a “Shakira”?????) She played a set with me at a show a few months ago and I can assure you that she has inherited a love of singing and performance that is, quite frankly, scary. Her composure on stage is staggering. Dinosaurs and words fascinate Seattle. He is beautiful and I love him a lot. I love them both. Someone once said they were my anchor. I agree.

Wonderbug went on tour over the summer. It blew the band apart I think. Too much time together, too much joy and dissapointment crammed into 2 weeks. Too much whiskey. It was a great time tho, and now we can all say we have done it. It was certainly an experience. Rock n Roll is fun. They don’t like it on the interislander much tho, ha ha ha. Big ups to Otis for slotting in, he is my hero. We are still friends and that is the main thing. In fact we have planned a jam session this weekend and I am really stoked that they are gonna play a part in St. Lucy and that they want to include me on their stuff. Yay. Friends rock. The EP did ok I guess, we got in NZ Musician earlier this year and did a few live to airs around the place. Mission accomplished. In fact, the further away from the material I get, the better it sounds. If you don’t have a copy, find one and have a listen. Its fucken great!

Jah’na died, unceremoniously in whangamata earlier this year. I guess I could state my case and be a bitch about it, but lets just cite “Creative and managerial differences” and move on aye? Before we died we recorded a bunch of songs with Graeme Rogerson. He really is a great engineer if you wanna know. They came out wicked and I have been using mine for St. Lucy. SO, if ya wanna listen to perhaps, the pinnacle of “Jah’na” at their best, buy a fucking St. Lucy cd.

I still live at home. I guess its easier that way. Joe and Trish are cool, mostly. I can’t see myself being in the property market for a while so for now its “Status Quo”. Hey, do you LOVE “The Osbournes”????? I sure do! Have been playing a lot this year. I kinda floundered after “Wonderbug” for a month or so. It really is like getting over a lover or something. Then Jah’na took off and Ray Columbus was here to hear us play and things got all messed up. Ha ha ha, he offered us a “Publishing Deal” (Whatever the fuck THAT means). I guess it was nice to have someone who is respected give a shit, but I really think it went to certain peoples heads a lil….. opps, there I go again, sorry. So yeh, after that I kinda just dove into “St. Lucy”. Have been all over the where playing and it has been great. Not all great shows, but certainly a period of development. Have my fingers in a bunch of distribution/funding pies so I’m expecting to have the first album ready for release in January next year. I’m hoping one of the major labels, well, ANY fricken label, will jump on board, but I don’t really care too much. It’s not like I’m gonna stop because of THAT, is it? I now have, in my possession, 3 rejection letters from Sony Music. Ha ha ha, in 4 years, they havent changed the wording. Yeh, anyway, I have been writing a lot, you can hear the NEW songs here  http://www.mp3.com.au/album.asp?id=3950
Make sure you click on the song title and read the stories and look at the pictures ok. There is a lot of new material on the webpage too if you wanna look. I have been kinda updating it more often lately.

Whats next? Well, I guess I’ll keep plugging away, my life is in a state of disarray as fucking usual, but I guess you just carry on huh? What else can you do? I really love the new songs and the possibilities that are presenting themselves to me at the moment. I hope you are happy and loved and stuff. You can call me if you aren’t and we could swap horror stories (07) 8535061. I hope you have a great summer, keep your ear out for Lucy on the radio and in the magazines ok?

jesus mate, if you can't be arsed creating an individual topic for me why'd ya bother?

fair enough

OUCH, Ray, I thought we were gonna be lovers...

"I did not offer Jah'na a publishing deal...I said I would try and get one
for you.
It's regrettable that you see the time I gave you to be the start point of
the breakup...all my intentions were honest...
I obviously wasted my time!
And yes please take me off your 'group thingys' as of now...
and be very careful in how you use my name.
Ray Columbus"

I'm so confused. Can anyone tell me whats going on???

Lucy has pissed Ray off.......naughty you.

I guess I did Rat, I dunno, is it just me or was he being a lil "Over-Sensitive"? I certainly layed none of the blame for "Jah'na"s' demise on his shoulders, and as for the publishing deal thing, semantics, thats all. I dunno. I'm not taking a shot at him. If I were gonna take a shot at a "Name" it would probably be at that "Havoc" guy for consistantly getting less funny and more fat. But I wouldnt do that.... But sheesh Ray, lighten up, if you wanna giggle, watch a zed video.

go st. lucy, push those buttons. I think you got the reaction you were after..........and very promptly as well, went to your site and had a nosey around, lots of interesting stuff, ever thought of writing a book?

I just downloaded and listened to "The Battle of Rangiriri". It's such a terrific name for a song that I knew it would have to be a really good song to not disappoint me. I was not disappointed.

The election night soundbites provide an almost disturbing introduction. Compared to the gentle sound of St Lucy's guitar, our beloved Prime Minister's voice sounds harsh.

The maniacal bullshit of election night contrasted with one person with a few questions of their own makes for quite a spectacular aural experience.

Is "The Battle of Rangiriri' any parody on 'The Battle of Evermore' by Led Zeppelin?
Or am i just a geek?

Next time you record a demo, could you turn msn off first? kthx.

i leik ur music, by the way. GO GO GO!!

Thanks Kid_A, "msn" is a brand and logo of the "microsoft Corporation" and remains propety of the "microsoft Corporation". Please do not breach copyright by using our name in the public arena again.

And, thanks Kid_A! Nice of ya to say so!
I saw Rubicon on Space the other night. They looked tired and bored. I liked the bit where they smashed everything up at the end, very original and unpredictable. "Rubicon City" is a nice we anthem for the youth innit? Yay, not contrived and crappy at all. Oh no, not at all. I guess I should get hold of this "Album" thingy and have a listen before I go any further. BRB.

//I liked the bit where they smashed everything up at the end, very original and unpredictable

Original?? haha, ever heard of the Who & Nirvana?? heap of bands do that!!
Also they didn't smash anything, they just threw the drum kit around & a guitar, I don't think they broke anything

Hey Tama Drummer? Ever get the feeling that things are just "Whizzing" right over your head?
xxx Lucy

http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=3240 ]

thats not the first time either........

You dissing me?? I guess you were being sarcastic??
I'm not as dumb as you think I am

Yeh Tama, ha ha ha, I guess we are "Dissing" you. I think you are dumber than you think I think you are, only slightly tho. The rest is just "hear say". Kinda like Rubicon if you think about it. Also, don't you love the irony in the fact that you call yourself a drummer and act all dumb ass? Isn't that a hoot coz drummers are often percieved as being a lil thick. You are doing nothing to aid their cause my friend, nothing. Sure is funny tho.

Lucy want did I ever do to you??
Drummer's aren't dumb, and if your calling my dumb than fuck you, I don't give a shit

// and if your calling my dumb than fuck you

no offence 'tama' but thats the dumbest thing i ever heard. did you mean to say

and if you're calling me dumb then fuck you ??

Shit did I really type that?? I'm guessing I wasn't fully awake yet,
I guess I am a dumb ass then ;-) hehe

at least tama drummer does not use nzmusic.com as some kind of dear diary. yawn

best drummer joke ever ....

q - "how do you know a drummer's knocking at the door?"

a - 'it speeds up"

:) (it's ok - i'm a drummer too)

Oh, you mean like this "manamana"?...

I am a musician, not the kind you see at the pub singing “Bliss”. I am a songwriter, but not the kind you hear on the radio singing songs to sell T-Shirts to kids. I am a father, but not the kind who helps his wife with the laundry and takes the kids to soccer practice. I am single. The words “Alcoholic” and “Addict” have been thrown around. I live alone, with my daughter. I have two assets, one is a guitar I love too much to part with and one is a car I would love to sell for parts. I guess I am the lowest grade of man on the market. I expect I will be alone for the rest of my life. I imagine there will be women and friends, but they all seem to drift away sooner or later. I read books at night. It helps me sleep. I like to shop for groceries, I like to clean the kitchen. I write songs and pin the hopes of my dreams on them. I like to sing them to people, but not like “The Feelers”. I like people to identify with my songs, but not as desperately as “Tadpole” do. I want to tell the kids that it’s all gonna be ok if they can just hold on, but not as a marketing strategy like “Che Fu”. I seem aloof and confused because I am, not because I seem that way. I don’t really care if I never “make it”. I would prefer it sometimes if I could come to that realisation, then perhaps this burning in me would stop. I feel sad that the Television exploits my children. I feel sad that America and Multinationals exploit the Television. I like “The Simpsons” and I like “Scrubs” too, at the moment. I felt sad that people died in New York last year, I even cried, but I know where some of the blame lies. I am obsessed with a woman, she does not reciprocate. I guess this all sounds a little morose, don’t worry, I smile a lot and laugh and dream and talk and plan for a brighter day. They just seem to be in short supply. I hope you are ok, I hope you find something in my songs to help you Smile/Laugh/Cry/Cum/Love/Hate/Care, I hope so.

oh yeh, Rubicon were fucken boring the other night, even THEY looked bored. WTF is that about? Why bother if it bores you????

xxx (again) Lucy

http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=3240 ]

do you have a day job Lucy?

Yeh, Yeh I do, it's not what you would normally expect tho. I don't think I'll tell you. Ok, I will. I am the guy who manually stimulates the bulls at "Agresearch" to get the special sauce to make the G.E baby cows. I like it. I like it alot. Havoc seems to be making a late dash for being almost good again. Isn't that sweet? I listened to that "Imon Starr" version of "Trippin" yesterday. Why do some people bother?????
xxx Lucy

http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=3240 ]

I need to get me one of them "day job" things too. Hopefully one that doesn't involve bull semen, but I think I left all that behind when I left Hamilton.

Hey, music related stuff. I'm going to make it my mission to go out this weekend and see a choice band play.
