Thoughts on Big Brother 2

So Big Brother 2 has come and gone. To tell you the truth, I was not impressed at all - the housemates this time around seemed like just a bunch of random 20-somethings who wanted the same celebrity-status that the previous contestants enjoy/ed. They knew, from the previous edition, where the cameras were; the boys were vain and muscular; the girls put on make-up in the morning and had chats about the stardom they would elevate to once out of the house. Part of why the first show worked (to a degree) was that the housemates did not know where the cameras were and how popular the show was becoming around Australasia. That experimental charm was hopelessly missing from this year's series.

The powers that be obviously sensed that the show was flopping and tried to up the ratings by pulling off stunts (ie. getting Killing Heidi to come play) that they wouldn't have dreamed of doing in the first series, or to smooth the show's pillow by evicting two people simultaneously. I lost interest after the first three weeks and not even the uncut episodes offered much (apart from the final "best of the world" edition - those are always gold). So in sum, a mistake, and one they will hopefully not repeat with a third edition.

Keen to hear opinions.

Forums: The Bar,

I couldn't be bothered with it, it sucks & very boring!!
I don't know why I watched the first one!!

I ignored it for the first month, but then found myself becoming addicted to it. But instead of staying home on the Monday night of the final eviction I went out and got horribly drunk instead.

yea, i must say - last time i was REALLY into it, but the second time round -=> it was a let down.

i stopped watching after about two episodes, and i occasionally watched it when my parents were watching (the weekly ritual, of sitting in front of the tv eating dinner while watching big brother was not as 'looked forward to' as the previous series).

although, in saying that, each series had it moments. i think the first time round there was better people. but the second time round - from what i saw - the housemates were more open and wild, willing to go further than the first round of housemates.

//not even the uncut episodes offered much - i actually watched these episodes, even though they werent great, they were still good - and enjoyable (a bunch of aussies making fools of themselves....whats not to love?).

i think that this time round had a lot more range in personalities, and sexual preferences, more open.

but basically, - yes i was disappointed, but then again, thats not really a sad loss - it's reality tv, what can you expect?

its a show, thats all, these arent what the people are really like - its such a put on.

Jeez man..the guys in these series were ugly..

Hmmm, yes these guys on the second round were just fukking filthy. Its as though they were casted straight from bi-sexual porn flicks or other things! I dont know it was all show, they weren pushing the boundaries, well because they could. The person who disgusted me the most was Kieran, he was just filthy...everything about him. I thought that Nathan was very quick witted and funny. I hated Turkan (Who is really a virgin at 31? & of course she lied...tut tut) & the fukk stick that actually won -Peter, WHAT A WALL FLOWER. Regretfully, I watched it a whole lot, it was shit and infiltrated my mind with tripe. But yet, there was something attractive about it, like a shiny coin on the pavement...what that was I will never know. I def. think that the first Australian episodes were far superior, not to mention better eye candy, but overall. They were perhaps a little more conservative & had a bit more self respect & dignity, which I might mention is admirable.
Dirty? Yes it may well of been, but certainly entertaining...at their expense of course. Reality TV is the new Pop what can I say?

oh dear....you poor kiwis wont have to endure austrlian celebrity big brother too will you?

i heard about this - can you elaborate more for us peaches_head??? - whos on it etc.....

This looks terrible. This is one television programme that I will not stoop to watch THIS time.
I must, I must control myself, I must, I must control myself, I must, I must control myself, I must, I must control myself...

ever read the book 'are you there god? - its me margaret' by judy blume pitchblack?...

you might have to go to B.B.F.A [big brother fans anonymous] if you're not careful. lol.

NO I have not...what does it entail do tell. I certainly hope that I do not subject myself to the next idiotic round of BIG Brother. This is when my b-fr, friends, flat mates, family, a code on the tv...comes in handy.

it has a phrase in the book thats contains the words "i must, i must..."...cept - you obviously arent talking about your breasts are you....*becomes VERY elusive from now on*....just let that go right over your head....

is it really that hard for you to escape big brother???.

just typing that thing now, i almost wrote bb. it reminded me of how mad i used to get at katrina when she used to walk into the diary room and say "hey bb"..... fuck off!.

It has this certain addictive feel to it...so alluring. But I have chosen to stop the addiction now. NO MORE! Enough is enough!
OH my god, I hated Katrina...she was a melodramatic fukk stick. Actually I dont really think that I liked any of them (:
Are you talking about....'I must, I must improve my bust' etc? By chance?

were you as addicted to the first series???....coz i was completly addicted to it....but omg, you didnt go out and buy magazines just coz bb stuff was in it did you? [my mum did - thinking i loved bb lol].

i must say now - i am proud of your chosen 'big brother free' regime - tis healthy. god help us if celebrity big brother comes our way at some point. its almost as bad as the whole 'treasure island/ surviour' phase, or dare i say it - the 'popstars' phase....

just think pitchblack....this time next year, you could be fully sucked in to the newest version of reality tv, with your tv dinner on your lap, and remote in the other hand....
lets just say, i'm glad you are stopping now. heck - i'm glad you realised you had an addiction....when the first series came around - i would sit there going "i'm not addicted" - simply because there were others more addicted than i....thankfully - it ended when it did. this time round i had much more 'realistic' things to keep my mind on this time [like, for example, missing the final eviction (aww guttered) because i was in canada (yay)....]...

life goes on after big brother. but i'm guess you know that already, dont you?

sorry this topics a bit old but i will give you a run down anyway...
They have Sara-Marie, Dylan Lewis, Anthony Mundine the boxer, a drag queen,Kyle a radio dj, a swim suit model named Imagin, and The woman who flipped the letters on Wheel of fortune Adrianna. It goes for three weeks and has the intruders, Gabby the comedian (UUURggg!!annoying) and Warrick Kappa an annoying football player.
The show is better than the other big brothers i guess, but its a bit of a joke. Kyle is a dickhead, but he's still really funny and he makes it worth while.

has it finished now peaches?. sounds like a bit of a crock of shit to me [probably coz i have no fucking idea who half those people are]...i dunno....i think i would be willing to view it....just to see how good it is.

in my opinion, i dont think it would go down to well in nz, coz i personally didnt think bb I or II was a very big hit over here, well not like it was in oz anyways.....[you crazy mother fucking aussies you]. lol.

i didnt really care about it, it sucked fat dick for Crack cocaine, it sacrificed an enourmous amount of TV Time and took away the simpsons twice a week, (fuck you TV2!!) and other programs which are meant for the family viewing hour (no i am not a fan of peter dunne and the United fascist party) BB was also a tool of the media and mass corporations to turn the brains of your young into into mush just like Britney Spears, Glassons, Hannahs, N Sync, 91zm, Juice TV and other corporate scams that made NZ into a tool of corporate AmeriKKKa
