Bought any good /great albums recently?

Hell I'm just curious. What's the best albums you've bought recently(say last 4 months)? enzed and other... mine would be ....

Modest Mouse -building something out of nothing - well actually I didn't buy this, Dust did but the artwork is sensational, so I've snaffled it onto my desk. he'll be lucky to get it back any time soon

3ds strange news from the angels - classic for any self respecting collection. the artwork is pretty spesh

Fugazi - the argument , although again I didn't buy this one, I just claimed it...

David Kilgour - feather in the engine. now this one I did buy and I luff it. but I don't dig the artwork - strangely bland from a kilgour

Flying Nun Under The Influence - yeah okay so I got given this one, but it's solid and I dig the sleeve.....

shit guess I've been on a bit of an indie trip recently! So anyway what's worth forking out the cash for?

Forums: NZ Music,

Bic Runga's new one - best of the year. Weezer's new one is good too. I've also been visiting the $1 bins at real groovy and come up with Green River (members of Mudhoney & Pearl Jam before those respective bands - 80s grunge!) and Spoon's A Series of Sneaks.

Free mp3s are all good too. You can get the Datsuns and Jimmy Eat World on mp3.com, and people all around the world are uploading their homegrown tracks to their own websites.

Track down Jacob Berendes or Leonard Richardson if you're into something different.

I saw Jimmy Eat World on Letterman a couple of weeks ago, good band!!
They also opened for the Foo Fighters last week in Ireland

yeah I'm not looking for MP3s - love em, know they're there. I'm wondering about great albums - you know what's actually worth the $15 - $30 cos every songs a gem or the artwork rocks, or you get bonus music vids with them. MP3s are like tv commercials and I wanna know what to set my vcr to record.

ive got the Jimmy Eat World album. IT ROCKS!!! id recommend it as one of the best albums of this year

also The Hives compilation of their last two albums "Your new favourite band" is WICKED

P-money big things is good too. if ur into heavy hip-hop beats

Ive also had a listen to Andrew W.K. offering "I get wet" and i can confidently say it'll be my next purchace

The new Wilco album - yankee hotel foxtrot is special!!! And so is Fat Freddy's live at the Matterhorn - my GOD that is a fine album .... yeehaw!

Lucid3's cd!!!!!
I so fully recommend you go out and buy it, it is brilliant!!!!!!!!!
Victoria has such an amazing voice!!! :)

I heard Lucid3 on the coleman sessions. They sounded amazing. Made me want to go out and buy the album. My first impression of Torz's voice was that she sounds a bit like Alanis, but then realised that she is in fact much better.

I have to say i'm in love with Tonic. Okay their first album was released ages ago but Lemon Parade is such an awesome cd. There's a song on it-"Soldier's Daughter"-that makes me cry everytime I listen to it. All the other stuff is bloody good too. Weird cover art though.

yeah tonic rocks! lemon parade is a very good cd

Worship And Tribute by GlassJAw. The album hasn't been released in New Zealand YET, but will be on September 9th. It is a very cool band if you're in to something different.

If you hear one song and don't like it, try listening to the next because each song is so different, you have to hear them ALL to hear GlassJAw.

To categorize it, it would be emo-metal, but then a lot of it is softer, and very melodic with some pop :D

Still preaching about glassjaw aye angsty???;)

Of course, were you expecting me to stop? :P

the new saves the day cd is amazing

love songs for romantic punks by kitsch

and amalgam by the skeptics.....fucking amazing shit.....would have been good to see a band cover one of their songs for under the influence

http://www.geocities.com/forever_second ]

Amalgam fucking amazing record. Fucking amazing band.
NZM should get an artist page for them. They did so much for nz music.

yeah...that Kitsch album is great.
It kind of suprised me, I've been on a downbeat bent for a while.
The Finetuned Compilation from package has some bands.
Sideways Too is spinning in my tray at the mo....& reccomended.

Whoops maybe a bit too sideways...

what I meant to say was...that Fine Tuned Compoilation has some great stuff on it.
I love compilations (like smorgasboards), & will buy most local comps for variety & a taste.

Amalgam - that's the album with that weird face on the cover, innit?

like a face suplanted on to a finger or a thumb... weird, their earlier album 'Skeptics lll' was their best though.

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi. check this one for the artwork as well as the sound.

yeah nice album peps

The Alphabetchadupa - Betchadupa. this album is so good.very good slow songs as well as rock. my fav song would have to be drop d

i like Filthy Mcnasty.

Damn I want that album. I guess I'll have to fly over to NZ to get it but I guess it would be worth it.

why dont u order it off like CDNOW or whatever.

Some great recent purchases:

PATTI SMITH - Horses (from 1975: very strange, but some rocking tunes)

WILCO - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (from 2002: one of the year's best - will come in my Top 10)

GENESIS - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (from 1974: Peter Gabriel era - a whacked-out double concept album that has been sadly negected)

THE FLAMING LIPS - The Soft Bulletin (from 1999: awe-inspiring - bought it to prime me for their ne one)

DJ Shadow - Private Press
P-Money - Big Things
Fat Freddy's Drop - Live at Matterhorn - This is pure listening bliss...

Turin Brakes - Optimist (nice mellow stuff)

un huh. love this one. i gotta say the brmc album although being flavour of the month recently is still a bloody good album - liking the early verve eps undertones and i like the sleeve shots.

Trinity roots - true

This is frightening - I have bought quite a few of the CD's people are talking about here - Trinity Roots, Lucid3, Bic Runga, Boards of Canada, P-Money, DJ Shadow, Fat Freddy's Drop, Fine Tuned - all very good. Am currently listening to the new CD from the Beangrowers, not half bad, with Morcheeba's latest to follow. Other recent greats include Pine's Long Player, Nitin Sawhney's second CD, Ladytron, F C Kahuna and, strangely enough, the cover disk off June's remix magazine mixed by Cuffy & Leon - nice vocal house music. Oh, and a find at the warehouse - the Essential Bob Dylan 2 Cd for $13 or so. My next purchase = the original Brat compilation - some very cool sounds on that.

Weezer - Maladroit

RHCP - By The Way
SOAD - Toxicity
SoundGarden - A sides
Staind - Break The Cycle
Iron Maiden - Rock In Rio

Thats off my head, but I need to buy the NZ music I think :-)

The new RHCP is amazing. Track 4 and 7 ( i suck at remembering titles ) absolutely rule.

Toxicity rocks! You didn't get the free DVD with it did ya??

I forgot the best of all: Dubious Brothers "Trade Secrets" - it has the sharpest lyrics of any genre I've heard for a while, is an outstanding credit to the music production course at Wintec, where the whole album was produced as the course work.

I was trying to remember what I've bought recently. Not a lot, but that's mostly due to me being a starving artist. But I did win the Deceptikonz "Elimination" CD and that has been really pleasing. I also went out and bought the Breeders long awaited CD "Title TK". It's not as sweet and poppy as previous stuff, more dark and dirty, but I like that.

Kim Deal 4 eva!!!!

Ive heard some pretty bad reviews about the "Title Tk". For example that 'it sounds like the band haven’t practiced their instruments since the last album which sux ‘cos The Breeders and The Pixies were never about mastering their instruments, that was kinda the point…………………..bum notes were the crux of their attitude……………anyway……blah.
I just got ‘Surfer Rosa’ (the pixies) on vinyl which rocks cos I haven’t been able to play my C.D. version (I only have a record player).
Surfer Rosa is tremendous. Its my most enjoyed, long lived albums, I can listen to it a million times a day and not be sick of it.
There have never been any better songs written about scuba diving in the Caribbean, your first bike, hillbilly incest or that cancer-us boyfriend. I feel like a cowboy every time I listen to this album.

You Fucking Die!…………I Said...

Matt

Pines new album Longplayer is mighty fine....
also...that little EP by nelson band Minuit....nice

recently i bought:
thurston moore - psychic hearts. i had a tape of this already so i'd listened to it lots but it only cost me $20 dollars and i didn't think it was available in new zealand.

24 Hour Party People - movie soundtrack. i don't really like the happy mondays, but i like new order and joy division are the best ever.

hdu - fireworks.

the go-betweens - 16 lovers lane.

tom verlaine - flashlight

lately it's been Belle & Sebastian's Tigermilk for me.. just got that wonderful feeling of "I'm never gonna stop listening to this" - same addiction I've had w/ Husker Du's New Day Rising & just about every Devo album heh..

isn't anything- my bloody valentine.

oh so good

steven hawkings "the universe in a nutshell" talking book

man it rocks

OZZY OSBOURNE - "DOWN TO EARTH"!!
Deftones - "White Pony"
Remy Zero - "The Golden Hum"
Pacifier (Shihad) - "Comfort Me single" - Anyone know the official tracklisting of the new Shihad/Pacifier album? I know they had it on their old site but i forgot to save it? Anyone know if Mistreated is gonna be on it?

yea, i'd have to agree with remy zero - the golden hum....a VERY good cd for when you're in the mood for chillin out.

also agreeing with shihad/pacifier - rather impressed by the new stuff. love judge judy - very nice.

To tell you the truth i think most B-sides are a waste and i rarely by singles but Mistreated surely is good enough for the album.

yea, i generally don't buy them either - i think the main reason i bought the pacifier one was cause i wanted to hear the new stuff. turned out to be quite a good buy as well....makes me look forward to the album, contrary to wot some people say - i actually think the songs are worth a listen.

i don't like it when bands release a single at the same time as their cd - totally loses the idea of a lp. i think that pacifier (god dammit i want to write shihad) did a good thing releasing the singles a wee way out of the album release - kinda made the wait less tedious........if ya get what i mean?.

but this isnt a pacifier forum is it....so i'm going to leave it at that.

:oP

AchillesHeel if you are still looking for that track list I think I saw it here

www.static-ecstasy.com ]

Cheers aka got it! And damn "Mistreated" isn't on the album! But Trademark is! and i've already heard them play that song 'bout 3 years ago on ICE TV

Coal Chamber - Dark Days
Soulfly - 3
Korn - Untouchables
Testament - The very best of...

http://www.highersin.cjb.net ]

yeah most of the time the singles only good if u just like THAT song, or the video, two singles ive picked up that i like are the steriogram single & the pacifier single they r fully LP which i think rocks, specially seeing the music could easily be on their up comin albums.
thats my recomendation!!!
