Start gigs earlier in the night, so that they finish earlier. First support band should be on at 8, second one at 8.50, headliners at 9.40, then the gig will be finished around 11pm.
Going to gigs on weeknights which don't finish til after midnight is ridiculous. For Friday and Saturday it's OK though.
Also for those of us who take public transport (or like a drink!) it would be good to take the last bus/train and not need to get a taxi home.
This will mean more people will come to gigs cos they'll know what time they'll be home by (roughly).
Hmm, maybe I'll start another thread on this ...

hear hear! I am old and crusty, and falling asleep by midnight ('specially with a couple of drinks in me). And paying babysitters to stay in past the witching hour is a nightmare.
I realise bands always want to wait to 'just a few more punters come in through the door', but if we can get bands playing to specific times, people will turn up at the alloted time, instead of trickling in around 11ish (which seems to be the earliest you'll get a headline acr on nowadays). And support bands -- go on when you're told! If you're told 10, that's 10, not 10.30!
Right, that's my wee rant, probably does need to live in another thread...

Sometimes it seems that a band can easily become popular, just because they use the fact they're from NZ to sell stuff here. I don't think we should like a band just 'cos they're NZ, it's the sound that's important, not where they're from.

That there would be more bands that aren't recognised yet getting out there getting more exposure and air time, rather than just having the 'usual' bands all the time...

Play more music videos on the weekend morning shows. a lot of it is overseas crap R&B (my opinion). then more of 'the kids' would see NZ vids. Also, music vids are fun and it puts a face to the band. Not everyone has Juice!

Kiwi music show on Radio Control; regular doses of kiwi music on another community station I have a regular show on; buy heaps; go to gigs whenever time/money allows even if a little uncertain as to whether its going to be my cup of tea, just to keep bands gigging; lend kiwi music to others so they get the flavour; have footers on emails to tell people about particular tracks; buy at least one musician drinks (but she's cute so there might be other motives!); rave to people about what I'm listening to; keep myslef from actually playing anything because that would be BAD!

But since I'm addicted and there's lots out there, I buy heaps.

If there was one thing you could change in the New Zealand music industry, what would it be?
I think people need to get out a bit more to explore our own scene - too many simply react to what the media gives them and won't go to live gigs, bands they've never heard of, read music mags. So bands stick to the main centres because they find it hard going off the beaten track.
