I just finished reading the posts on the "What Is It About Wellington?" topic where alotta Welly folks have banded together & tossed around theories on what makes the windy city the best place on earth! Not a single voice of dissent in there - I think that's awesome! Then I find this one where everyone's on the defensive about Aucks!:) I accept that Ryan82 threw this little gem in the mix 4fun (on ya bro:) but it brings to light the whole Akld vs NZ thing.

I'm from Gizzy on the E.C - but live & work in Chch. I really love this place - its personality & the music that comes out of here. Bic Runga & her sister Boh (steller*), Anika Moa, the Feelers, Zed, Scribe, Sheelahroc, Dark Tower, Salmonella Dub & dozens of other up&coming bands that have yet to be unleashed on an unsuspecting NZ. I've even gotten used to the rugby fanaticism that exists in Canterbury (It's taken me 7yrs - I've never experienced anything like it anywhere else - its almost scary:).

I don't hear people putting down Aucklanders or Auckland City around here - they're too busy dissing Otago! Hahahaha! Ok sorry - but Aucks is just too far away to remain in the local consciousness for long I guess. I lived in Welly for 8yrs & didn't hear alot of Akld bashing there either - maybe I'm just hanging out in the wrong bars or something:)

Preconceptions suck & can be downright dangerous. You can't judge a whole section of society by what YOU think of their religon, color, race, car, job, suburb etc, etc, etc. How many innocent middle eastern immagrants were persecuted worldwide after Sep 11th?
