The D4 just got a great album review (below) in this week's NME. They also got name-dropped, along with The Datsuns, in the same issue by The Beatings, who are the English garage band everyone there is hyping right now, so that is pretty cool. I also heard The D4 were off to be interviewed by THE FACE magazine yesterday. Just the thought of all those Face models would be enough to get Dion talking in that interview ;-)
NME - KIWI GARAGE PUNKS FINE DEBUT
The first three song titles tell you exactly what you need to know about this record. 'Rock'N'Roll Motherf___er', 'Party' and 'Come On!' are the dear, dumb fundamentals at the heart of New Zealanders The D4's classic garage punk'n'roll. Primordial and fun, those ideas sound as fresh here, on their debut album, as they did in the early 60's, when engine oil and the
nascent frissons of sexual liberation first helped scruffy white men to rock.
Like their fellow countrymen The Datsuns, there's little calculation or irony in The D4's love of girls and guitars, making '6Twenty' one of the great, grubby milestones of the current garage renaissance. And it places New Zealand in the curious position of being the new Sweden.

7/10 is a pretty high rating. i'd give it a 5. The album sounds like they're a great live band that haven't quite managed to capture that live feeling in the studio.
