diss where dissing is due.... I think the hype around some bands (I won't metion the one I'm thinking of) is out of proportion, and dissing is good if its deserved.... don't get too precious k8 they're a super produced boy band, but if your into that.... cool.

I would have to agree with Soberstone (the Viper Room comment, genius). Zed are crap.
I can't believe they're supporting Coldplay! But, at least they'll make Coldplay look like music wizards.
Zed are getting airplay and grants, when more deserving bands (waltz along to the Dux in Chch on any given day), are missing out. It's unfair. It's almost embarrassing for NZ music.

Well, I'm 20, and I've always liked Zed. I liked them before I even saw them, I just liked their music I heard on the radio. So it's not as some people say, that people only like Zed for their looks.
I understand that Zed is not to everyone's liking. I even accept that people will say that Zed sux or whatever. What I don't get is people who say they have no talent. Obviously they do if they've managed to make it overseas, and especially the US. Everyone has their own tastes, why don't we all agree to disagree - like someone said before.

Jimi, i have to say you are right on my post......but you also read me wrong, and reading back on what i had written in my frantic ways it isnt hard to do. i wasnt serious....i obviously dont think that you're all without knowledge - i have actually agreed with every post ive read of yours yet. so yeah....on coldplay, i think they are pretty much corprotey radiohead ripoffs - but diss where dissing is due and give credit were cridit is due, i saw one of their film clips and it was actually half-decent, and although i think they have some credibility, they are still a long long long long long long (etc) way away from having music i would personally listen too.

dont diss coldplay. theyre way more famous than all of u (i think) and they have actually made even though most people prefer pop music. they have obviously worked hard to get where they are just like zed. i met ben and andy in town the other day and they are the nicest guys ever so stop dissing them. if a band is famous they deserve respect because even if they play really crappy pop music it doesnt mean that they didnt struggle to get to the top. lets just respect all bands for being where they are and working damned hard for it.

hmmmm very confusing.......heres how i see it. colplay have a style very similar to travis, comparisons and 'ripping off' allegations arent made on whether they are arrogant or not its totally the style of the music. and k8 i dont really think that them being more famous than me makes them deserve undying love. k8 you seem caught up in the trap of 'oh theyre nice guys be nice about their music' well you can't say that all those people have worked hard because you simply don't know...... so i'm not gonna be nice about someones music just because one of their fans says they are hard working. maybe if you or i knew them it would be different? soldierboy i have to admit that you made some pretty good points based on their music, i pretty much agree with you but i still definitely wouldnt buy their cd...... ok k8 im repeating from someone who went psycho at me for saying that all bands deserved respect. you don't know that all bands worked really hard. an example: tina arena was 'found' singing to herself in a train station. she had never had any singing lessons or anything. now she sells records doesnt she? regardless of whether you like her music or not, think of how many bands all over the world must have been signed to labels etc without being extremely hard workers! plus, i dont think that coldplay being more famous than me makes them deserve my RESPECT. k8 HOW do you know travis and zed blah blah have worked hard to be where they are? you argue that all bands must have talent to get where they are. (heres where i start copying the person that slagged me off) talent is a subjective opinion eg all it would take would be the president of a record company to think a band was good and then theyd be set....even if no-one else thought they were good. eye tv lol....who knows HOW they got to the point where they are today, making us nauseous! but the fact is k8 you must dislike some bands and think they have no talent, and wonder 'who the hell would buy this music?', and some people are going to think that about zed for instance and arent going to change their view just because they might have worked hard. this would mean a different world: 'ah yes well the new zealander came dead last in the 200m olympic swimming final, but god he worked hard to get to the olympics, lets give him a gold medal.' then everyone has to get a gold medal and the whole meaning of getting one goes out the window! get my drift?

just because tina arena wasnt working hard when she was discovered it doesnt mean that she isnt working hard now and she must have had a bloody good talent if she was discovered singing to herself. if i was a nz band i would be extremely happy to have a lot of record execs supporting me all the way. ok so i hate all thoses crappy pop american bands like n'sync but they can sing probably better than u. so dont tell me that bands dont work hard.

Ok. I would like to say that i am not a dim enough person to liken coldplay to radiohead! ....and the music radiohead have "recently" been making can not even be compared to coldplay's work. If you have ever even listened to Amnesiac or Kid a you would realise that radiohead sound nothing like coldplay. Im thinking more along the lines of albums like the bends, pablo honey and even Ok COmputer. I like a lot of english music and im not that sheltered to compare them because they're the only english bands ive ever heard of. Personally i dont like travis either (the love you bring wont mean a thing unless you sing - geee.......someone has "strong points" in songwriting...) or muse who have ripped entire riffs from radiohead. Sorry but they are ripping off radiohead, like it of not. One day they might be something more cridble, but lets wait till that day and THEN praise them please.
Oh and K8, what you say about all bands deserving a chance for being bands that got somewhere is rubbish. You obviously havent heard the words "Corporate Pricks" if you havent come to the realisation that most pop bands are MADE......not formed nowadays.....

Hey now, I agree that "The Bends" and "Pablo Honey"-era Radiohead was guitar pop, and so are Coldplay and Travis - but that does not mean that either band are ripping off Radiohead!! It is as if Radiohead has now become the standard that all other British guiar-pop bands are measured against, and all future bands of this nature will now be accused of "sounding" exactly like Radiohead. It's driving me up the wall.

i only compare coldplay to radiohead because the music they produce is really alot like that of radioheads pablo honey the bends days...i mean coldplay are ok....but in my opinion they are ripping off radiohead. its fairly obvious that if someone comes out trying to produce simular music as another band, they will be labelled rip offs. because simply the are RIPPING OFF an idea...

hey jimi - in a way you did agree, even thought you were disagreeing.....i was mainly saying not to compare radiohead's recent stuff with coldplays parachutes stuff and you sort of agreed with that (another guy said that radiohead's recent stuff and coldplays yellow faze are alike i was in disagreement)...im sort of thinking that coldplay are more ripping off radiohead's early stuff.................but they dont have the same genius radiohead do.......

ahhhhh... if only bands like Pluto and Goodshirt got put foward the way Zed have , both clever , creative and with a hell of a lot more charisma than those little rent boys . New Zealand has always had it's best success with original and innovative sounds , stuff that you can't get anywhere else , pity .....
