I say we put together a partition or something and get another
"New Zealand Music Month" for July or August. Why should there
only be one month per year?
Yup good idea. It should just be ground into our psyche now to reach for the local content. We should also put on gigs to help support the quotas, get our voices (and other instruments) heard.
I think a big problem with the music scene is radio stations commerciallity. Most of them are too affraid to play an unknown band even if the music is good. We all need to change this to!
I'm with ya buddy! Lets oranise a big MF'n rock blow out to promote welly music, get some venue packed out to the max with punters...it can happen with the right organisation, the only problem is getting the radio stations and the public to sit up and take notice without being hindered by the fact that we're not Goodshirt or Blindspott. Wellington has a really fantastic rock scene happening at the moment, all those bands pissing off overseas left a huge gap which has nicely been filled by all the new talent emerging at the mo'

side topic - but pip how fucked off were you that Fu Manchu didn't make the trip down to rock mecca wellies?? Instead settled for Auckland only and were pissed that they got such a lame crowd. Imagine how they would've gone down here! When are the promoters gonna admit that auckland rock scene is flatlining and they're better off forking out another airfare to get the bands further south?
Thankyou Teina! Someone else shares in my anguish!! I was much disappointed and peed off!! They would have gone off down here!! I am a big Fu Manchu fan, but too bloody poor to afford a trip up to AK. Shit if they had have come down here, I could think of the perfect support band for them (hehe) and they would have got a fat crowd and life would have been wonderful. But no, we are once again left pining for what could have been.
Things must change!
What can we do??
They're not everyone's cup of tea, so I cant say "they fucken rock check them out", I mean, thats what I want to say, but I know some people depsise them, cause you know, everyone has differrent music tastes and shit, and......what was I getting at? Oh yeah, if you want to see what all the "fuss" is about, they have shitloads of albums out so you should give them a listen. One I would reccomend you start with is "The Action Is Go", now this is my personal fav, but most people tend to go with "In Search Of". I fail to see why they would pick that over The Action.. because it's not as easy to listen to, and just sounds a bit too dirty (I like dirt but this is like the sort of dirty that dirt wishes it could be) So go with The Action, and especially check out the first and second tracks, they are the coolest.
Okay Bye
How about just a rockfest in Welly. We could have it all day and night - from cuba mall to civic square and to frankits park. That would be fucking choice
Hey y'all, About that NZ music month. I reckon we should have a big session with small-time bands in each region, like a Welly one, ChCh one, Auckland one etc... and give them a chance to show their stuff aye, that'd be phat. (Probly on the same day or whatever)
