New Zealand Metal.

Can any one please tell me some good New Zealand metal bands?? Metal doesn't seem to be very big in New Zealand, which I think sucks. I know of a few NZ metal bands but I thought other people might know some. Dayone is an aweome NZ metal band, if you havent heard em you should check em out.
Cheers.

Forums: NZ Music,

dayone (www.dayone.co.nz), d0nt (www.d0nt.com) , police lucipher (www.policelucipher.co.nz), nosebleed (guitar of dayones old band), product, state of it. Shit what else?

Theres heaps but u have to go out and about to find them. Just listen out for any gig with 'metal backing music' on the ads and check it out.
In Welly theres a few Metal bands but really underground and hard to find. Product have left to Melbourne, PL's singer is down south. Residue is a good one to check out

'Meatyard'from Chch have recently finished a NZ tour with Australian death metallers 'Atomizer'.
It was organised by 'Subcide Productions' in Chch.
Check out Meatyards website for info on tours etc...

8 Foot Sativa, there is a forum here for them

their album just came out and they are also on tour at the moment

If you want to see metal bands live, there's quite a few around isn't there? They don't seem to tour much though, (compared to bands that play other genres) they just play lots in their hometowns.
I'd also be keen to hear of any good hardcore/metal that's been released on CD. I know the obvious ones like Dayone, 8FS, Product and I know Evil Priest just released an album, anything else good? Did Dayone release anything before 'Less Than Perfect'? Did DSM or Daredevil or The Slit Family release anything before splitting up?

dayone put out an EP in 1999 before their album.

nosebleed?

It seems that HigherSinner is just a teensy bit confused between metal and hardcore. Ah well, its just a name after all.

Yeah DSM released quite a bit of stuff before they split up, including split CDs with Dust, Act of Vengeance and Balance and State of Grace, plus their own album about 18 months back.

Most of these you can probably still get from 1157 Records.

Other than that, if you're into hardcore, So To Speak are playing with Kitsch at their CD release party this Friday night at the Kings Arms... so if you're in Auckland and want to see a decent punk/hardcore band, check it out, maybe.

Oh yeah... Promise of Bloodshed are wicked too. Maybe check them out, HigherSinner.

You can find out heaps of stuff on NZ hardcore bands by clicking on the below link.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to check out bFM tonight if you're in Auckland, HigherSinner, at 11 pm, Viva La Hardcore, hosted by Cash Dog of Evil Priest.

if its who i think it is, he's in blenheim. which explains his opinion about noone hardcore ever playing......

oversoul seven is/was quite good, they were from nelson. not sure where they are now tho. also 16oz are cool, and are still touring round the top of the south.

oversoul seven?

I've only heard of a short-lived Wellington HC band called OF7...

Oh I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying they sound kinda similar.

Cheers, Dayone isn't just a hardcore band.. they are influanced by metal partly because the singer does death metal style singing in some bits ..I do have the album.. but thanks anyway ..i'll check out those links ..I already know of Metayard, Grief, Subtract and a few others. Yeah old Blenheim aye ..haha great great town ;)

you guys have that huge concert coming up this weekend tho - motherguru and imah - huge concert. hahahahahaha damn wait a minute nelson sucks just as much

Yeah I know Day One ISN'T just a HC band but they're not strictly metal.

By the way, they have a new singer now. He's the brother of Chris from Tadpole.

I was just about to suggest subtract. That's weird about dayone's new singer. Chris's bro played in a band called Counteract I saw play a few years a go. Aparently when they split, promise of bloodshed formed.. that's what i heard anyway.

The new Dayone singer's name is Richard. And he is not Chris' brother. Funny Idea though! ha ha. He used to be in a band called Switch, then when they fired him they changed their name to Dirt Theory. They have a new web site under constuction but it's quite Shit at the moment.

Oh I see, but Richard has been in the band for just under a year now so he is not new.

I meant new as in since their album.

Fuck I hear a different story every day about Richard and Chris being brothers or not. Either way, they look the same kinda... maybe its just the dreads.

I don't think Day One has officially broken up, they're just doing fuck all cos they've had so many lineup changes.

Haha ..Is it his brother!?! ..thats pretty funny/random ..they havent updated there site in ages. Is there any other dayone sites apart from dayone.co.nz??

Hahaha!! blenheim wont be the same after this weekend ..haha craaazzzy

You should really check out some of the local bands. If you're looking for boganish stuff, that's pretty big lately with 8 foot sativa and all. Try out www.nzmetal.co.nz. If you live near Auckland try going to a show, theres new bands coming out all over the show, Dead Letter, with one of the guitarists from Promise of Bloodshed, are one among many. If you're in Auckland on the 30th try checking out the best band Ham-town has to offer in The Redshift, with past members of DSM, Daredevil, Shinkasta and Bloodwreath. Good shit from Pepe, current guitarist from Evil Priest. Bloodwreath is still fuggin running the metal show, despite dropping a bassist and losing vocalist Wurzle to Redshift duties. Basically, good luck finding much good stuff if you live away from Auckland or Hamilton, unless you like crappy long haired bogan metallica wannabes.
