Tape verses Digital (for jaffa)

2" 24 or 2" 16 is the king on a well aligned machine. Tape really does sound so much better than digital, even 24bit 44.1Khz. It has such a fantastic characteristic that leaves its mark even after mastering into the cd domain. It has compression characteristics that obviously don't occur digitally and also it seems to capture transients and depth of field better.
Of course the power of digital editing, increased track numbers, recallable plugins, recallable automation and its relative cost to tape makes digital recording very attractive.
but oh, the sound.

tape will cost between $280-$400 per reel depending on the kind of tape and where you get it from. The type of tape you use will often depend upon the way that the machines are set up and engineer preference. At high speed , you get around 16'40" on 1 reel and at low speed you get around 33 minutes. At low speed the possibility of tape hiss does occur but depending on the type of music (eg loud rock) it may not matter. The top end at low speed isn't as strong as recording at high speed but the bottom end is very very good.

cool

they just charge you for shit at the end mwa hahaha!

your bottom end is very good!
