NELSON NUMBER ONE IN NEW ZEALAND FOR 2001 SUNHSINE STAKES
1/10/02; 2:20:32 PM
"Niwa yesterday confirmed that Nelson with 2550 hours of sun during 2001 was indeed the number one NZ province for the fifth consecutive year running.
I was late, damn it, got to Auckers @ 5:30 and couldn't go past Real Groovy without going in, so it was 7 before I got to the St James. Made a bee line for Deceptikonz and the Dubious Brothers, really got into the Deceptokinz, not so much the Dubious Brothers - really like their single Lisa.
After that, it was time for some rock - Goodshirt (and I did dance, lots around me did) and Pacifier - about 2/3 into their gig, felt like not being there anymore. They were doing what they always do, but I couldn't get comfy, decided they're not doing anything new or interesting, so probably won't get lots of more fans, just more of the same really, and I have been there done that.
Bit of a shame to only get to about half the event - I blame it entirely on Real Groovy, but do have some good CD';s to listen to, so its not all bad.
really andoru? i moved here a few months ago from the 03 and the nicest people i have met have been other chch folk
i was slightly late to the concert *mucked around all afternoon and then missed the bus* made it just on time to see pluto, set was good and milan's matching hat and kilt looked lovely, liking the tunes off betchadupa's album, thought the crowd sucked during goodshirt (how can you not want to dance to them?) enjoyed pacifier's set (when did they say the new albums gonna be out?) and thought blindspott (especially the song with the deceptikonz) were pretty good
Well everyone i have met really have been old dunedin or CHCH or wellington people. haha. But most of the locals have been really nice too. Except the dude who mugged me he was not cool.
I'm sorry, I was just going through, loking at the forums, and had to add my little 2 cents in here!!!
I've lived in Auckland all my life, and I'm actually a nice person, so are all my friends!!! I've recently come back from London, and now have friends from all over New Zealand, and they don't think I'm that bad either! Actually most of them now see how stupid the whole 'we hate Auckland' thing is!! Everyone else has this misconception that us 'J.A.F.F.A's' have something against anyone who's south fo the Bombay's! In reality, we don't hold anything against anyone(or no-one that I've ever met in my 23 years of existion does anyway) Everyone else just thinks we do!
All I can say is, TRY IT.....YOU MIGHT JUST LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!
New Zealand only has a population of four million (I think I'm about right!).....and you all argue over this shit!!! FUCK ME!! What's the paranoia about people?
True colours was awesome and as far as gigs outside of Auckland it all comes down to money and sponsorship. It doesn't matter if the sky rains lollies where you live if there aren't enough punters who's gonna risk backing the event....
Pluto were excellent, but i don't think the crowd knew how to take them. The guy from Elemnop grabbed his balls alot. "The Goodshirts" were weak and have shit songs. Pacifier - take em or leave em, the crowd was epic and there was no safe zone at the back, it was all madness. Blindspott are good at what they do, recorded or not. Deja voodoo are really entertaining, funny shit, they are like Rubicon except they know they are a parody. cant beat the 10 gutairs of death though.
yeah goodshirts weakness really showed, especially compared the neighbouring acts. Becthadupa were especially impressive (gotta love the 3d's cover!), a huge improvement from when I last saw them a couple of years ago, and Pluto were a big surprise too- sounded really nice and tight. haha excellent performance from tim finn aswell!! ;)
i thought true colours was great. first artist i saw was damien binder, good music, but i think the crowd werent there for it.then i saw savant. I didnt like their performance at creed so i was looking to see if they improved... did they? im still undecided, they surely woke up the crowd, but i guess thats coz damien binder is kinda mellow. after that i just caught the last part of Deja Voodoo and they were brilliant, lots of people were jumping. So stayed in St james to watch elemeno p, i had sorta got annoyed with fast times in tahoe song on the radio, so i wanted to see what they were like live.. have to say, they rocked. it was very fun, especially their version of 'Mickey'.i think after that was pluto, so stayed in st james. i had never seen pluto live before. Milan was lookin awesome in a kilt " go the kilt!". very cool performance! especially " i like chicken and chicken likes me".After Pluto i saw Betchadupa, got up front for them. really really good performance by betcha. Couldnt help but notice the forever screaming girls....they would just scream if one of them walked across the stage! jeez..they were viscious too. i got really confused when liam was explaining the meaning of this song about how he climbed this tree and he fell half way down and this dude came and saved him and he saw on the news that some guy died falling down that tree and it was that dude that saved him. well lots of ppl started laughin.... thats kinda weird. but oh well it was cool song, and it was chris's Bday so everyone sang happy bday.then i watched the first two songs of goodshirts set, Rodney is a showman, he knows how to work the crowd. hes always putting the tamberine on his head lol.so left to check out Pan Am. fun music. saw a guy that had a singlet on that i have seen at lots of concerts in auckland..:s anyone else notice him? anyway Pan am were awesome, too bad about some dude yelling out " play the good version of !!" but one of the fellas bummed him out anyway.i wasnt really planning on seeing blindspott instead of pacifier but i was there and near front so i thought i would stay for half of it. so yeah they were ok the first time, the place they first played in was a ridiculous place to play them, in fact any band. what were the organisers expecting at a concert? that we would not jump around and mosh??? so something with the floor not being strong stopped them like 3 times. everyone was swearing and shit so they decided to put blindspott on after pacifier on their stage! yay! was kinda pissed with the whole sponsorship of emerica thingy, coz they were about to throw out what looked like stickers and ppl were like " oh cool blindspott stickers!" but they were some skating brand stickers, i mean hey its their sponsors , but isnt that kind of label bashing? anyway i could actually go and watch pacifier then coz the room was packed(yes i missed ten guitars of death :'(). caught the last half of pacifier, i think they did a great job, the crowd response was huge! lots of ppl left after pacifier, so then it was Blindspott again. didnt actually watch them for long, went upstairs to sit in those funky seats they had, the ones that if you joined them together it would make a circle :D but i could hear them, sounded good. well that was my true colours adventure!
"trixie"...I'll give you a little clue about "forums".....You don't need to write a fucking book O.K!!! You are kidding aren't you! "Pacifier" really aren't in with a chance!! Aren't they just a little out of date so to speak! I know I rave on about "blindspott" ( and no I don't think I'm obsessed or anything!!...manama will disagree!!!) don't you think!!!...."nesian mystic" and "decepticonz" ROCKED!!!!Where is your taste girl?????
First off, I'd just like to say, that they really should've had a bar!!! Maybe 18+ tags, something like the big day out or something, 'cause me and my mates were in a Bar first, and it just would've made the day even more enjoyable if we could've carried it on! BUT in saying that we did have an awesome time!!!
Made it in for Betchadupa, had a little dance to them, but made our way over to PanAm to talk to the boys before they went on. They were rockin'!!! one of their best gigs, I loved it when the Nanna Knickers got thrown up on Stage(it was me!!!!! It's o.k, I"m friends with the guys, I'm allowed to) THen we stayed in there for Blindspott, but then blah, blah, blah, the floor. So we tried to see Pacifier, but couldn't get in! some guy told us if we sent through the back doors we could get right up to the top seating, so we did, and got right up the front there, which was perfect! but we had to go back down when Blindsptt came back on. THey absolutely ROCKED!!!!!!!!! THe highlight of my day with out a doubt(apart from the Knickers thing) I'm definately a converted Blindspott fan.
THat was my day, anyone else????
man... i couldnt get upstairs during shihad! thats where i wanted to sit, so i could see everything, but they wouldnt let us in so we stayed at the bottom. did see blindspott from upstairs tho, that was pretty kewl. i didnt realize the stage was so big till i could see it from the top :)
ahhh....we got there hell-early to get in first, just to find the Shihad stage didnt open till later - so i froze my arse off to wait in the dark hearing muffled Damien Binder till they opened the St J. theatre. No tears, tho, we got right to the front and stayed there until half way through Shihacifier when we had to leave!! (parent ultimatum-of-sorts: "out by 11 or youre catching a cab home!!" a cab from mid city to the bowels of semi-rural manukau is not cheap) i loved the gig -
deja voodoo were great, id love to see them again, more entertaining than goodshirt or betchadupa(sorry im just not a fan) by far. loved Pluto, i know ill risk sounding like a true(coloured) bopper here but i got plutos and elemeno p's setlists...and betchadupas (gave it to someone else) hey, in all fairness, i didnt scream and fight for it (like some weirdos did for milans' cup!) but i was pleased i got them, ok?!
shihad though...fucking legends...im real pissed off i didnt get to see them finish, or see blindspott at all. it was fun being lifted out of the mosh by the security gaurds though!! tehehe
sorry to go on bout it, i know half the auckland forum-ers were prolly there too, but hey it was my first majorish concert and i was stoked with being barrier-side (er, crushed) the whole night. i was there with 2 mates who were YAY GOODSHIRT and one who was YAY JOE from BETCHADUPA but she was a shihad fan too so it was all good. sadly, they stood the whole time shihad was on not doing much when i was fully getting into it. (i touched jons leg! hahaha...obsessed? no, dedicated!lol jks jon dont be scared now)
the whole crowd(well, round us anyway) seemed to really get into it although someone mentioned before the crowd didnt really know how to take pluto which is true but damn theyre a fine band.
hugs to all the people involved...no wait that sounds sarah-marie/joe-cotton-ish...i apologise...*makes funny hand thing everyone at rock concerts does*
