heard the new single on "the rock" this morning. what can i tell you, it's fucking oarsome. i was almost crying it was that good. bliss for the ears. now i can't wait for the new album. rock on boys and take america apart.
sucked? Were we at the same show? It looked to me like 1500 people were having the time of their life. Classics such as Home Again had the whole theatre shaking, I had people screaming along to Mind Minds Sedate in my ear. The mosh pit extended right back to the sound desk at times with a constant stream of crowd surfers providing excellent cutaways. Lighters were even sparked up in the acoustic encore 'Walls'. A terrific homecoming with a new name and new songs that sound even more promising than GE.
teina, do you realise that in your description of the show
you said absolutely nothing about the music or the band?
You could be describing a Creed(eg) show for all I know.
Dunno if I'd go so far as to say they sucked, but they were about as innovative as yesterday's teabag. Their new songs are getting formulaic - which I guess is what you need to do if you want to appeal to the masses - and they were basically your average rock band with very little to say to me. I didn't even stay to the end, although it must have been close.
What say hollis was an engineer of sorts.
Imagine that he wasn't very good.
Pretend that some of the high profile bands he slags off have worked with him once, and will never work with him again. Imagine if record companies asked bands not to use him, cause he was below par.
It would probably make hollis feel better to put those bands down, rather than let people realize that his lo-fi engineering was a result of a lack of talent.
Now imagine that hollis had engineered some of those 'cool' bands, you know, they are cool cause they don't get radio play, and can't get funding, and don't show up his lack of ability, that kind of cool.
He would probably talk about how cool they are, probably on the forums.
hey hollis i'd be interested in your comment and opinion on the pro's and con's of analogue versus digital, I gather via your comments on this site that you could be the person to ask?
analogue: uses 1" or 2" tape is that correct? so 2" is better? and if you record analogue and master to a cd, do you lose somewhat the characteristics of the analogue?
well i love the song, im just watchin the video repeatedly, its just got that ommmphh that my minds sadate & wait & see have.
& i just can't stay away from it!!!!
I agree, Jonny.. and for someone to say they sound like Creed on "Comfort Me" isn't a correct assesment. Creed just doesn't have the musicianship; they're merely a Pearl Clam clone. There is more musical talent in the two hands of Tom Larkin than all of Crud, um.. Creed combined.
wow. all the negativity. i thought it was a great set (although i had to go part way through - i wish i could traded with the people who left through choice) i definatly thought that they would have had a much more positive reaction from people who were there. does the fact they used protools in recording make a difference live? does the fact that they had a major event in their life as a band, a whole new experience, mean they cant change their outlook or style a little without old fans saying the 'new' stuff is crap and blaming the band/jons writing/the producer ??
is it really as bad as everyone is collectivly saying, or is it just not quite to the tatse of people who like Shihad not Pacifier?
i loved it, being right in there, being close enough to almost touch the band and feeling the crowd love it too (or so i thought) and seeing the way the band were so fucking stoked everyone was goin for it??
cant we wait till the albums released to give them a review? where are all the people i saw enjoying it, is it only the people who didnt posting, or i really thought most people liked the new stuff.
oh well - im relativly new to nz music - dont mind me.
well you all sound like you all know each other and its been very interesting reading all your comments. ive not seen or heard any nu stuff yet so i cant comment on that. i will say however, that im gonna support it cause its nz music and we need to get behind it cause its bands like pacifier that bring attention to our dark corner of the earth, even though i dont live there anymore. well thats what i think anyway....
This week on Squeeze - Pacifier. We talk to the guys about life in Australia, life in L.A., the name change, why the band nearly broke up, and lots of other bits. As well as fresh interviews with the band, there's footage from past interviews and the videos for first single 'I Only Said' and new single 'Comfort Me' - plus free stuff...
This is a show you don't want to miss!
Squeeze - Sunday at 3pm, and again Thursday at 11:35pm
Why isn't Hamish Laing, original base, mentioned in any of the articles or histories of Shi-Hard? Hamish was the only reason a few of us ol' Wellingtownians went to the Shihad gigs.
Oh, sure John boy's entertainment, but I suppose after going to school with the geek, you kinda have a bit of trouble really being a "fan":)
Guess that with all the kids now being able to afford CD's that it is only natural for John Boy and his talent to sell well... It's good music, and Jon ain't all bad, of course he bloody isn't... He was never pretencious (how the heck do you spell that anyway) enough to bother trying to sit on the back seat, and has always been focused on the band. Amazingly focused actually.
I've had just a little to do with the recording industry and live productions and know a good band when I see 'em (anyone found the original footage of Fur Patrol circa Feb 99, Wanaka NZ?!!! wish I could find it, it was in digital stereo after all....) .... What the phuck am I on about? Oh yeah. Shihard.
Right, HAMISH LAING. He may not deserve a gold statue, but his place in the first four years of the "Hard" should not be forgotten!
Hmmm......Hamish Laing wasn't the original bass player....Shihad had a number of bass players before Hamish left TAB to join Shihad which he left due to their change of direction. One of the early bass players left Shihad for religious reasons ....I think he joined Certain Sounds....Sure the first Shihad official recording features Hamish and he played the Metallica support. ......They even flew in a guy from ChristCHurch to play bass with them in the early days. If you weed through the messages in my yahoo group you will uncover further Shihad history.
