Pacifier...Blindspott...Elemeno P...Pan Am...Goodshirt - yup, they're all gonna be playing the True Colours Festival in Auckland on Saturday June 1st, and it's gonna be HUGE! This week on Squeeze we're talking to all those guys up there, as well as Brent Eccles - the man behind True Colours. Plus we'll be giving away tickets to the gig and Blindspott prize packs. Yay.
Squeeze - 3pm Sunday and again 11:35pm Thursdays
And because we like to encourage thought-provoking discussion on these threads...
Who do you reckon should/shouldn't be on the True Colours bill?
Do you think it would be feasible for a festival like this to tour the country?
Who would you rather see, Pacifier or Blindspott? (they're on different stages at the same time)
And anything else you can think of....

right answer stefan! The latest date we've got from The Datsuns is that they will be back around the 10th of June, we're not holding our breath at the moment cos we know what a good time their having (especially since they've just been signed to V2 in the UK), but we look forward to nabbing them as soon as we can when they do return and hearing all their stories. we'll let you know when that is.

2. of course it is: look at the success of the General Electric tour. SHIHAD not playing Wellington is a crime.
3. well duh! pacifier of course: no one should be playing at the same time. they should just have a big movie screen and broadcast the pacifier slot into the other venues.

er...just out of curiosity...who was the nitwit who put Shihad and Blindspott on at the same time? Is it confirmed? And arent there more different-sounding bands that they could have put on so that there wasnt a clash like that?
Please dont burn me for saying shihad and blindspott sound the same!!! Ijust mean theyre more similar than say, PanAm or the Datsuns compared to the first two.
Once again, just interested, but are there many people who would think a clash like shihad-datsuns/pan am/elemenop would be better than shihad-blindspott? are all shihad fans blindspott fans? blindspott haters? does anyone understand my question? i dont think even I do.

I don't think it's that big a clash, at least for pacifier. I'm assuming the pacifier demographic would be larger and probably older than that of blindspott and the pacifier slot will fill up no matter how many people blindspott drag away.
I also reckon the crossover of datsuns/pacifier fans would be greater than blindspott/pacifier, and it would piss off more people to put on Waikatos finest at the same time as Pacifier.
It's probably worth noting that the ...
It's probably worth noting that the Datsuns won't be back in time to play at True Colours. Too busy being successful abroad...

I will never admit to knowing too much ...
I will never admit to knowing too much about the 'new breed' of kiwi bands at the moment, (living in Scotland for the last 7 years), but through reading these forums on a regular basis for the last 10 months or so, it seems to me that kiwi music is as, if not more, popular as it was during the heyday of the '70's & '80's.
An underage venue tour of the bands will do wonders for the next generation of muso's who may not get the chance too often to see decent kiwi acts play, and will hopefully install the kiwi DIY attitude to creating their own bands.
Sure, money will not be made, sharing dodgy couches in some strange flats and eating shit food will be the case, but if the tour can cover its costs it is worthwhile.
Kiwi music is fucking cool, get it to places and youngsters that haven't experienced it yet.
It is well worthwhile....
I agree with Firelily... first stop must be Hawkes Bay, on the beach at Waimarama!!

yep a FULL NZ tour and if we can wish for them on the beach at Waimarama, lets have the same for Tahunuianui, looking at the numbers at rockquest in Nelson........highest ever for any rock quest any where in the country......... there is a real hunger here, feed us we are starving,
but in saying that shihad have been pretty good at knowing how to get off state highway No 1

waimarama would be the shit!! but i dont know that theyd get the numbers if they went that far out.
I think that if the promoters and the bands are gonna go to the effort of touring and REALLY taking it to the masses then it has to be all ages-these people (ie ME) are the future fanbase for kiwi music and if theyre less than 18
a) they obviously cant get into a pub or similar
b)they are less likely to be able to travel to venues only in the main centres
The idea is brilliant-and if you're willing to put in the effort in the first place you may as well do it properly and get some real, longterm benefit out of it...

im a little worried the St James is going to be a bit small and a lot of people are going to miss out on actually seeing Pacifier here is some approx figures.....
Main Room 1500
Regent 1200
Westend 1000
Do you people think it would be a safe assumtion to say Pacifier will draw more than half the people in attendance for the finale? hmmmm could be a few dissapointed faces. Also note that organisers have already said cues may form from time to time.
I bought my ticket yesterday and the lady said they had sold heaps, im not sure wether this is good or bad now.

dude those figures were approx, but im pretty sure they are close. The whole complex has an capacity of about 4000. You probabally could fit alot more people there, but crowds are limited because of fire dept restrictions. The St James is an old dodgy building and i know promoters get alot of grief about heat, lack of air con etc, from the fire dept. Im guessing the true colours promoters will know and be weary of this.
Ok here is some actual ...
