Hey,
In a bit of a sleepy haze the other night I witnessed something terrible. it was Mulch, I think, on M2, playing the video for "Never Gonna Stop" by the well-known american Rob Zombie (older brother of the lead singer of Powerman 5000).
This video is a complete copy, to me, of SHihads pacifier vid. Now, any self-respecting NZ music fan whos even slightly in the know would, SHOULD have seen this. If not, maybe it was just me picking up on vague points.
The video was Rob, and his band, doin the normal band thing, but - it struck me as a total rip off of the Pacifier vid.
Because of the following:
-the text on the set walls - the the same style as 'pacifier' in the shihad clip
-the fact they were in some of the video driving round in a car, filmed in the same style as the shihad clip
-the costume they wore was similar - not all black and whitish though
-the bit that 'offended' me most...the very last shot was of someone (rob? not sure) with his purple top hat, close up shot, winking at camera. With little funny make-up things stuff marks whatever under one eye.
I know it doesnt sem like much but watching it, it is!!
Now, the last time i saw the clip for Pacifier was a while ago, and, i was quite tired at the time I saw the Rob Zombie clip BUT straight away i thought FUCKING RETARDS STEALING THE IDEA OF A GREAT SHIHAD VIDEO! has anyone else seen it? I ask anyone whos a Shihad fan/know-all (nothing wrong with that) if they havent seen the video to watch it - download it, request it on m2 or whatever - just see wether i was dreaming or if this dude is asking to be sued.
I know the Pacifier boys themselves are in the counrty right now (YAY True Colours here I come!) so I dont know if/when theyll read this but has ANYONE noticed this??
Its driving me crazy!! ahhh! (like that!) ahhh!
someone please put my mind at rest! grr...americans...

urgh...whoops. What I meant to say was..
the video Shihad made uses imagery and ideas taken from the movie version of 'A Clockwork Orange'. Possibly the text on the wall and definitely the costumes, including the eye make up. So what I'm saying is that Rob & co could have no idea that Shihad even exist yet still make a similar vid if they had the same idea as an inspiration...

just on a slightly random note, has anyone else noticed that the name change hasnt really taken off here?? no ones referring to shihad as pacifier (unless its pacifier AKA shihad or something to that effect). maybe we just havent really had time to break a 13 year old habit...

On the "Worst NZ Music Video" ...
On the "Worst NZ Music Video" discussion from back in March, I said I didn't like the "Pacifier" video because it was just an inferior remake of "A Clockwork Orange". Tomble (a.k.a Tom from Shihad) replied saying:
"By the way I do agree about the Pacifier video comment - I'm alone on the issue within the band but I think the use of Clockwork Orange was trite at best - Lots of people love it though. Especially Rob Zombie!"

Ah. Thanks for theat. I first thought ...
Ah. Thanks for theat. I first thought possibly it was based on a similar concept but kinda forgot that later. Being not of into-movieness age when that movie was around, I wouldnt have thought of that. Never seen it. Is it good? I guess it would be if people were basing videos on it.
Anyway thanks again, I reckon Shihad did do a good job of the video, from the viewpoint of someone whos never seen Clock work Orange - if that was just some random idea, it wouldve ben brilliant.
