the nzmusic forums are definately very rock based. probably an indicator of the small amount of hip hop in nz. A recent discussion led me to starting this forum.
I only recently discovered some good hip hop, i was an avid hater, being exposed only to the crappest of american rap/hip hop. I hardly ever crack out hip hop, only when i am sick of everything else, but it does make for a nice break sometimes.
I know this isn't NZ, but i would love to hear from people which artists they ranked in the hip hop world.
I am sure there are some people on this forum who will probably appreciate some good hip hop, and it is fucking hard to find
PS. Fuck off with your dre, eminem, snoop, 2pac, krayzie bone bullshit.
for starters
AIM - lovely, shit can't get enough of "cold water" and i am digging the new album as well.
The arsonists - loving the arsonists
Dalek
and of course all the ol skool favourites like
public enemy
beastie boys
sugarhill gang
grandmaster flash
I'd love to hear some new good shit, anyone got any recomendations?

In no particular order.......
Black Eyed Peas......it's really about Hip Hop for these guys, not bitches and money'
Lauren Hill......has so much all round talent, she can pull of every style, and writes and plays music.
Fugees........ (Wyclef Jean) always positive, super rhymers and singers.
J5........ there is so much coordination involved with these guys, mad Dj's, amazing live show!!! again Hip hop orientated, not gang-pop.
Public Enemy......Say no more.
Beastie Boys....pure talent, always original, natural progressers, B Boys are the innovaters thats why you will always hear other people using their shit. IMHO never beaten.
2 Live Crew.....Hey we want some p.........
Eazy E (Eazy Does It) Everyone should own this album, me and my mates rip it out sometimes when we are drunk, and always end up crying.
Loving the NZ Hip Hop, because we are not trying to be something we are not! which in turn is producing a truely original flavor.
Mind you there is only a handful that can truly kick it!

Nah, not really. NZ Hip Hop still has a long way to come. Deceptikonz I see in their vid have gansta rap gear going on, yuck, please drop the wanna be stuff. Not all Hip Hop is the gansta rap to which you refer.

well gansta rap is still part of hip hop, but I despise gansta rap so much. I guess you could say it is like Blindspott and their American influence but gansta rap is just crap really, all glitz and money and bitches and hos.

Anything released on the "MoWax" label ...
Anything released on the "MoWax" label is bomb (http://www.mowax.com/home.htm) - great music, great artwork great packaging and a web site that is constantly evolving.
"Blackalicious" are just down right awesome check out their "a - g" e.p with the "Cut Chemist" featuring (hes one of the D.J.s from "Jurassic 5") these guys are all about retro funk (with a capital "UNK").
Also speaking of "Jurassic 5" I really dont think that their new album is up to much but their (extended) E.P is one of the best hip-hop albums relesed in the last 5 years (well I rekon anyway).
Also the Cut Chemist is an amazing D.J check out any of his solo work and it will amaze, especially check out the C.D he did with "Shortcut". On this album he plays 5 turntables all at once and samples Whales through to Walt Disney, Cut Chemist is cool.
I have to say thats a pretty good hip hop low down from a rock boy.

Like a lot of you guys im not into the whole american gangsta rap money and hoes thing.
Im liking quite a lot of what we are producing, king kapisi, p.money, che fu (if you want to define him as hip hop). Im not a big deceptikonz fan either, too american.
Otherwise BEP and Outkast are cool, Roots Manuva for some UK flavour. I really want to check out a bit of tribe called quest.
