Hmmm, I don't know about that. I suspect they picked Joe for the fact that she was "large" to make the TV show a little more interesting. There were a lot of other "slimmer" girls at the auditions who could sing just as well as she, but the producers probably felt that it would be too obvious or boring if it were five perfect, thin ladies going around and choosing clothes to fit their image and all that drama. Enter Joe - the odd-one-out who would naturally enconter problems when the time came to pick the threads (or even fit into them), learn the choreographed dance moves, etc. The ratings sky rocket.

Well, I was pushing for a NZ Big Brother at one point in time, but nothing became of it, and I guess nothing ever will. Still, we got the Aussie one, right? Yeah, I know it's crap - European editions of Big Brother are a lot tastier.

the difference between the Monkeys, The Partridge Family and the modern equivalent S club 7 is these comedy/ drama shows are the end product of a selection process,
New Zealand popstars was intended as a documentary to show the selection of these "stars", more to highlight how manufactured band are created,
I was under the impression that it was meant as a one off, but was later franchised..........it is interesting to note that of these manufactured band some of the European ones are doing extremely well and are up to having 3rd and 4th albums released..........I am by the way not saying that is a good thing it's just interesting.
