Forums: NZ Music,

I'm afraid so dude. Drummers are scarce and so are bass players. Well the good ones anyway. They're all taken. Quite a kit you got there how long ya been playin'?

My band needs a drummer! We've had our rhythm guitarist on drums for over 6 months and played at least 10 gigs with him with the odd fill in drummer every now and then. But we really would like a drummer cause our guitarist doesn't want to play drums even though he's a legend. He's just as good on guitar though which sux that we can't have him on both.

Email amber@localoutput.com if any drummers are interested

My kit is getting little big now, it seems to be a bit of a over kill now.
I saw 2 drums on Ebay that I could add to it, but I think I'll flag it.
Plus I got a good deal on drum equipment from a guy from Aussie, which was pretty sweat!! But spent most of my money buying stuff last year, thanks to student allowence :-)
I've been playing since I've been 6 (can't remember exact date) but I'm 20 now, so that would be about 14yrs now.

yeah my band needs a drummer as well aged 16-18 (7th form). Cause i got some plans for this year and stuff

my current kit is a vintage Pearl, canary yellow, in mint condition - was in the Dunedin Cash Convertors, someone obviously looked after it, it has perfect tuning ... before that i had a horrible black Maxtone, the wood warped badly, sucked up moisture basically, and then the metal got all brittle - but they're cheap enough to practise on, and it you bash them right they often put out an interesting sound ...

i sorta go for the lo-fi end of drums ... real basic floor tom/1 tom/kick and snare set up (ala Hamish Kilgour, who i nominate as God of Kiwi Drummers). i love basic factory type thump, absolute precision, monotonous trance drumming ... can't stand flashy "solo" drummers ... good to see this forum topic!!!

Yeah my former kits was a Pearl Maxwin (yuck) & a vintage Premier.
Who are you fav drummers??
Mine are American, because I don't listen to enough NZ music, but Tom out of Shihad is quite good.
Mine are - Chad Smith (RHCP), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters/Nirvana), Lars Ulrich (MetallicA), Jimmy Chamberlian (Smashing Pumpkins), Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam/SoundGarden) etc

fave drummers NZ: Kat from Foamy Ed, Tom Larkin (Shihad).
Fave drummers overseas: Danny Carey (Tool), Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashimg Pumpkins), Placebo's first drummer, System of a Downs drummer, Ben Gillies (silverchair), can't think of anymroe at the top of my head

Danny is awesome.. the best
:) :) :)

Danny Carey is too good!!
I listen to him and I think, man I suck!!

danny carey is good, it'd be safe to assume he is an instumental part of tool.
mike bordin is awesome to see live. an open hand left hand drummer. he likes lots of water splashed over his kit for those anthem type numbers. i guess you can when you're given free kit's every so often. he tour's with ozzy osbourne nowadays. that has got to be an experience and a half. he's touring the ozzfest with black sabbath and all the hottest metal acts today, who incidently revere his bandmates.
herbs solo on 'suck on this' was unforgettable. an awesome san fransiscan. primus has declined a bit since getting brain. rhinoplasty was pretty good though.
i don't care what anybody thinks but slipknots joey makes up half the band (that makes him four and a half members). the singer may as well be the other half.
john bonham was my childhood hero. i've been listening to led zep since i can remember, and was watching the song remains when i was in form 1. i had wanted to play drums ever since. (that or windmill a guitar like page). sometimes the spoons is as close as i can get.
jimmy chamberlin was pretty hot. the wee drum thing on gishes 'window paine' was epic. everything else he does is wicked too. he probably knows that.
while on the grunge, dave grohl was a bit of tornado. same with the soundgarden and alice in chains drummers. respectively.
we've had a bit of meshuggah playing lately, their drummers is swift. the mr bungle drummer rulz too, i'd just wonder if he can pull it all off live...
a perfect circles josh freese makes some beautiful music with those guys.
seen the sublime drummer bud, once. playing with the long beach dub allstars. when striking the snare he'd lift his left arm right outstretched above his head, almost straightening his arm. then dropping hard. hard hitting dope smokin snare cracker.
i also reckon the deftone abe cunningham fuses the hard-core and hip hop best. they were wicked in auckland... ages ago.
i had better stop there. could start getting into all the session muso's. but that's not really cricket.

now i can list one or three...
hot kiwi hammerheads: otis (police lucipher, played his kit open handed blowing us all away with these little double time and triplets on the toms inbetween the snare count. madness and magic at once). tom larkin (when shihad played the hometown he went through four snare heads!! no shit he's a big dude and was giving his kit treatment!! large and loud in one).
ex-trinity roots drummer was tricky. product drummer is wicked to watch. jason from jakob has a tight freeflow. letterbox lambs oscar does enough without doing too much. davie geird did some unforgettable breakfast of champions stints. he told me an interesting story about john bonham and keith moon jamming moby dick one time.
i live with a drummer and all he thinks about is making noise. i suppose he's pretty good, but i wouldn't let him find that out. lots of metal bands i've seen have typically good drummers. the dayone dude sounds on to it. jarrod of premature autopsy gets the props too (cher bro').
dave from sal dub has real good dnb beats. like peyote dub, and dragon. killervision is an important recording. dreadford of shapeshifter is stylin'. he had some shining moments sat night, and i've seen him in better form. the relaxomatic project drummer is stoking. if he's the same guy from the new lounge head then he shreds. tight experimentation.
wow this list morphed out of control.
i'm sure there is bound to be more... in fact i know that to be true.

//jason from jakob has a tight freeflow

yeah, i've only seen him once, but he's pretty damned incredible really - i think at least half of what makes them interesting comes from his very steady and lyrical playing. he's a machine with soul.

speed (drummer from 8 foot sativa) is fucking tight.

fuck!! i went and forgot hiddee beast.
the man i reckon made head like a hole happen.
with a dead straight posture, cymbals way high in the air, all drum heads lying flat as australia he was an excellent drummer to watch. yeah. all scowling and mad looking. fantastic.

and dino!! hdu!! shit!?
he owns a big loud drum kit.

Speed?? Wow what crate stage name :-)

oh dude, its you!

jamie, its me, martina :D

Oh you find me out, damn ;-)

Remember Animal, he's god!!
No one will ever be as good as him!!
