Paselode rocked!!!!!

Paselode we're awsome on Friday night, so we're all the other bands but Paselode we're primo. Have to see more of them!!!
Real good crowd too, it took a while them to step on the wood, but thats always the case at indigo.

One thing though.....

A small message to the guy filming
(not any of the nzm crew, but I won't name him 'cos .... god damn it yes I will..... Blink)

NEVER EVER step foot on the stage dude, your not the show the band is, you ruin it for all the crowd.
You know better than that, try to be invisible, its just not on having some dude running around the stage (a small stage at that) shoving a camera in that bands faces while they're trying to put on a show and we're trying to watch, save that shite for when there is no crowd around.

Sorry dude but you really fucked me off and nearly ruined an epic gig for me and others, keep off the stage and try to be a little more invisible eh?

Forums: NZ Music,

i know mate, i'm an asshole. I hate cunts like me too, but i was trying to get some killer footage to finish a vid I've been making for "beeswax" for ages now, the lighting and everything was ace at the gig, i didn't want to spoil it for people and i hope my big fat ass didn't piss to many people off.
Sorry dude, but maybe you will feel better when you see the vid and all the crowd shots, maybe even some of your mug.

I will always step on the stage if i feel the need, I think there are too many pussies out there just standing back "recording", after the gig is gone, photos and video live on. The band appreciates nice in your face footage much more then some dude standing back being lame.
I only got on stage in a couple of songs and got everthing i needed.

sorry again....kick ass gig though. Paselode are a motherfucking steamroller of booty shaking action, those aucklanders won't know what hit them when these dirty bastards turn up on their doorstep in a couple of weeks

I try to be invisible, but you know, some people see it as part of the whole show, I'd love it i i was playing and just random bastards got on the stage and got down, I just figured it was my last chance to get enough footage to finish the vid for a good while.

// NEVER EVER step foot on the stage dude,

I will use my judgement, but i hate video op's who just stand back and "watch" i need to get in the action and feel the energy or the resulting vid will just look like shit.

sorry again bro. I hope i didn't fuck too many punters off. I didn't get the photos i have taken by being a pussy, and i certainly don't want to shoot pussy video footage.

u could at least shave n wax yer big hairy ass if yer gonna be shoving it in all the punters mugs - and if you ask me the last time i didn't see enough pussy video footage was in that goshdurn garageland video - what the hell do i think the name of it was again?

hairy ass crack is all the rage, i was just trying to fit in.

I was there and didn't bother me too much. Blink's response seems kinda genuine, but still pretty much 'I know, but tough shit (and hey check out my arse cracks)'.

Personally, I just don't get why people feel they are self-righteous enough to do it. Maybe you should be checking out what Nato and co thought of it - perhaps they asked for it to happen. Bottomline: I went to see the band, not Blink's video shoot. Next time you see a video camera person, scream at them to get off the stage or get a guitar. It's about music, not promo shit- do that at sound check if you must please.

// It's about music, not promo shit- do that at sound check if you must please.

do you think a band like paselode would rock out in a sound check, they are not posers, the only way to get genuine live hardcore footage is to shoot at the gig, I am really sorry for the few people who got a wee bit annoyed dutring the 2 songs i was up there but trust me it was fucking worth it. you should see the footage i got.....oh wait you probably will. soonish.
Once the vid is up we'll have to stick a link with it to this forum, i reckon.

You can never get live energy at a soundcheck just like how most bands can't get their live energy on record. I also didn't want a video without crowd shots, whipping between the band and crowd.

no worries Blink, it just annoyed me in my mind altered state.

I still reckon that running around amoungst the band members as they play is a bit in ya face....

If it wasn't like cougers like Blink, NZ music fans would be sitting in their whare with their favourite bands' CD and fuck all else....
No videos, no photos, no fucking anything.
Imagine if there was no bugger with a video recorder at The Bands Last Waltz gig, or at Johnny Cash live at Folshom Prison concert, or at ....er....fucking Rattle and Hum.
Keep doing the deed Blink.... any chance of a HDU live recording!!!

Mucho aroha.

it not about the medium or actuality of filming (there's plenty of people who do it REAL well here). It's a basic mis-understanding of the art of video shooting in a public place that people PAID TO SEE & EXPERIENCE. The shows are gonna start sucking if this persists. It's fine if you tell the punters up front (and then I wouldn't go for sure).

shit, it was only like 2 songs. At like 1 show...
//The shows are gonna start sucking if this persists
shit...it was one time. Bands are gonna start sucking if they don't get good vids made. The music vid is an essential part of band promotion, hell you wouldn't be using this site if you didn't understand that.
I'm fucking working my ass off for welly bands trying to get them kick ass vids and kick ass photos for dick, and i'm getting shit..man.
f

hey bro. don't take it too personally - wasn't my intention. I understand where you're coming from. I'll come back later on (working) and expand a bit maybe?

i don't take it personally, it's an interesting debate, about how far media has a right to go. I agree that the media have to know there place, but i know that without media, you would never see and imagery of bands. This time i may have overstepped the mark, i made a judgement on the day, i warned jerome i would be in his face. I would do it again in a second if another welly band wants a kick ass vid.
I hope the punters realise for their small sacrifice, the band they love so much can get a marketing tool, so much better then any recording.
The main reason their are no signed bands in welly and they are all in akl, is that the record companies are based in akl, and no cunts at these labels know what a mother fucking ace outfit paselode are live, if i can go someway to capturing their live enrgy in a video, then maybe that will aid them.
In hindsight i should said somthing to the crowd, but whenever i panned the camera around the crowd everybody was yelling into the camera and looked like they were having fun, they were loving my prescence and were stoked to be included in some legendary paselode footage.

// I just don't get why people feel they are self-righteous enough to do it.

i feel nervous as fuck getting up on stage or taking photos by myself in front of stage of a band, when the crowd is hanging back, how do think i feel walking in front of the stage taking photos of bands that there are a hundred people 10 metres behind me in the dark, watching me. I DO IT cause i fucking love welly music and want all the good welly bands to have some fucking choice photos. Now they have good fucking photos, it's time for some nice fucking videos.

I like Gluepot have no chance to see most bands, it would seem that north islanders really do think that highway No1 is the only road in the south island.
If it weren't for folk like blink risking life and limb on a small stage riddled with cables, we would never get to share the privilege of seeing these people "live"........why should we have to put up with faked mock ups of "live"
I feel sorry for you if you feel that your concert was ruined by blink but take a moment to feel sorry for us.......we who will never get to see them at all without blink or a true south island tour

cheers aka.
// If it weren't for folk like blink risking life and limb on a small stage riddled with cables,
and a $10,000 borrowed vid camera getting missed by millemetres by elans swinging gat and jeromes flailing arms

:)
the debated about videos being a marketing tool is an interesting one
I still remember a long cold winter in the early eighties when this debate had all video removed from our televisions....
I think of them as part of the whole especially now with vids appearing on cds along with the music...an excellent innovation

Yeah, He ruined the show for me as well. I think he should just sit the fuck down and remove his mongrel face off stage. Sorry dude I'm havin a bad day.

:)

If you get this in time, i'm coming over to meet you around lunchtime.

If the band said something like " hey we're filming this track for our new vid.... lets go fucken nuts!!!" it would have worked perfectly.

I guess its a learning process, and this is one of the things that you should learn (early on ).

I still think a live gig is about entertainment, everything else is secondary media included, its nice to have it but its not the show.

The sheer volume of punters with video cameras at gigs now is just getting frustrating. Some gigs seem to be turning into tourist attractions. If you've got a legitimate reason for being there and filming then consider the situation carefully. Don't disturb the perfomance. No one's paid cash to see 'Human Using Video Camera'
If you must get up close and personal use the zoom or get a pole and stick your camera on it. That way you can shoot from the side lines, get those in your face style shots without detracting too much from the show. I've been to some gigs where there's a camera man on stage up in the leads singers face, wearing a white t-shirt and it's totally stuffed the gig for me.

But all that said, I didn't actually notice Blink on Friday. He must've been wearing the correct camo gears. The night was awesome, all four bands rocked and I can't wait to see the video.

fair enough teina.
however at those town hall gigs, you had the benifit of a "press pit" to shoot from and a huge stage for people to hide behind amps and shit.
These are all nice vids but not my style. True, if i was just some random cunt filming for my own benifit, I'd have to kick my own ass. But i was filming a vid for the most exciting kick ass band in nz and to truly represnt them i had to get low down and dirty. Their were no polecams i could get that day, all were hired/booked out, amd i reckon pole cams look gay anyway.

// I didn't actually notice Blink all that much on Friday

I didn't think i was actually in the way that much either.

teina...those live vids coming soon, that you have listed...are they to be filmed? or have you guys shot them already?

Shihad at Town Hall for sure, but all the other Shihad ones were stealth mode in the field. We've done Valve, Indigo, Bodega, Kings Arms - all had no "pits" to be a "pussy" in and we did a fine job.

All that list has been filmed and ready to edit. (except a few which have been done by contributors already)

"I DO IT cause i fucking love welly music and want all the good welly bands to have some fucking choice photos. Now they have good fucking photos, it's time for some nice fucking videos"

Groan!!!!! Come on - you self promo MF! :) hahaha.

you love it.

self promo. yeah...mes making the big bucks.

you know i dig your vids bro. you know i wasn't calling you guys "pussy", it was more a term i give to photographers who never get in the pit. like nzm i know how good a good video can be, you guys have the benifit of experience and multiple cameras and you are fucking good at what you do.

i'm genuinely sorry to anyone that i may have annoyed, with my (while angry) "pussy" comments and with my ass at the gig.

Make sure you catch the next Paselode gig for a blink free experience.

i love your hairy ass Blink.

nice. just teasing, cos I know you dig it. picking up pointers from nik!

geez!
nik took it easy on me, you just wait till matt gets here and see's this.

"blink free experience" now thats just wrong! Everyone be nice to Blink!

"blink free experience"

sounds like a "blink" tribute band:)
maybe they could play "photograph" by Def Leppard

sometimes a Wellington gig just isn't a Wellington gig without blink.

BLINK>>>>
i was right at the front......and you done trod on me foot!!!

sorry skank:) i am a big oaf.

This all surprises me greatly. Wellington is too small a music community for people to be getting pissed off over one guy filming. Bands need people like Blink who are in it for the love of the music, he's just a mate helping people out. You go up to Auckland and it starts to feel like its all industry. Let the man do what he loves, Paselode would have loved it.

i can remember ages ago the set up was this:
nine tv sets stacked in square facing the doorway in the large foyer/kiosk area. this had a live feed from (usually three) cameras positioned neatly around the auditorium. two near the vid mixing console and another handheld onstage. most if not all acts were mercilessly recorded.
i don't recall any 'getting in anyones faces', though i do remember a certain samflux poking a camera or two at shihad and hlah. who seemed more than used to it.
-) having had prior martial and military onstage training we all learnt to move like water, giving the appearence we were transparent.

"the appearence we were transparent"

transparency - now thats cool style. This is the key to a happy world...statement of the topic so far.

oh yes sweet.. i learnt a lot in those state days from ed ... i remember getting a wicked shot of the hlah trumpet type guy in 'crying shame' .. laying down underneath him ....

i think thats the key with live gigs,. get low and get funky... or... slap on a long lens and sit back . .. then everyones happy..

no shit -we did fuckin rock on friday night.
cheers to everyone that came - especially blink who got the money footage for us. i can't imagine us getting a grant any time soon so it's great that he's prepared to help us out free of charge.
i can't wait for it to be edited - 100% sweat.
this was an important gig for us, we had a lot to prove to a lot of people and i'm stoked that blink was there to catch the action.
anyways - i don't think it's that bigger deal. i'm sorry if anyone got pissed off - send an email to moneybackguarantee@blink.net.nz if you want your money back.
i just wish that he'd been at the hotel later that morning. actually it's probably just as well he didn't catch any of what was going on.
.......anyone want a paselode t-shirt? nato@paselode.com for more info.
ps. stop your whinging and support the scene.

big bully.

//big bully.
huh?

don't make me come up there and kick your ass dust.

3pm behind the bike sheds. i'll smash ya in da face...

and then i'll run. fast. i have long legs.

my wee hand is raised to get attention..............from what I have heard on the nzm radio paselode is really good....not that a recommendation from me holds any credibility .......do you folk tour / plan to tour / hope to tour the south island? ever?

cheers a bunch for the spell check!

//and then i'll run. fast. i have long legs.

fast enough for my long gorrilla-like bass arms not to catch you?
i doubt it! bitch!

http://www.seriouspimp.com ]

have you seen john cleese run? I taught that hussy how to to handle the leg extension in full flight. like a tripod on speed I shall move. A frenzied (yet suprisingly coordinated) blur of full length femur, shin and achilles raking across the earth. like a southerly man. no stress-free ape-planet lovin bass playing arms could match that. plus those burns are gonna hold you back from matching my whirlwind speed. so it's simply a quick girly punch and see me go.

now if you're talking ashtrays...hmmm. must work. ;]

p.s. you were very very good. and very very loud - seriously my ears rang (painfully) until this morning.

so it's the Ministry of Silly Runs now is it?

// 3pm behind the bike sheds. i'll smash ya in da face...

so what if i was 15mins early. you were cowering like a coward under your shiny push button geek freak machine if i remember correctly. next time be a bit more of a man aye? - or as blindspott so aptly put it in their recent single - "better swing and pray that you don't miss".
even better yet, wait at the top of the staircase for me with a big glass ashtray.
booyah '99!

i like blink gettin in the way, well i have never seen him get in the way.
