Or of course, you could simply tune into The Mulcher FM - New Zealand's best damn independent youth radio network. That way, you won't need to listen to adults posing as youth DJs, plus no commercials either.

Yeah, indeed. Mind you, I do believe I heard the white Stripes filling the Z airwaves recently, or did I dream it? I think the new PD has a better plan for the station, and perhaps even some taste!

Nice to see Channel Z giving the bands that REALLY need exposure a break.
Not.

That kind of comment is predictable and boring and becoming the norm for this site. Is there anything inherently wrong with all those artists playing at the same place in the one week other than that it is sponsored by Channel Z?

at least its a move in the right direction. if we cut people off just because theyre getting successful, then why would the young upstarts even bother?

My point here is most of these bands ...
My point here is most of these bands already have a decent amount of exposure and Channel Z concentrating on them further means less attention is being given to newer or smaller bands.
I have no issues with any of these bands, other than the fact that I thought half the recent we have NZ Music Month is to encourage artists from all levels, not just the cream who already generate decent albums sales and yes, can command bigger dollars than others who barely break even on gigs and go into debt just to pay their sound guy.
Wouldn't it be nice for a band of a smaller size to have a gig put on and payed for by a radio station and promoted the shit out of in the week leading up so that another band could have a chance for once?
Z already do that to an extent with ...
Z already do that to an extent with their Bands in the Square series.
It would be nice if a commercial entity could put on a gig featuring smaller bands to promote "smaller bands" but in the case of radio stations it would go back to the old reason of "if they haven't heard it they aren't going to play it".
And of course, if someone other than a radio/tv station (eg a beer company) tried to organise it, the bands that played would be called sell-outs or some other kind of bullshit.
