just got this email from M2...
----------
Being successful in the New Zealand music industry requires more than just great
songs, engaging talent and stunning live performances. In order for a band to
break into the industry it has to have support from the media. A song needs
radio play, a video to screen on television and attention from the music press.
Satellite Media Group. M2 and Jim Beam are committed to New Zealand music but
playing music videos is not enough.
Satellite, M2 and Jim Beam have come up with a plan to help foster our local
talent and help them get the support and interest they deserve.
The JBVS will offer four bands/artists a year their own music video for FREE.
If you are in a band or a solo artist that is unsigned, have a killer song, are
actively gigging and feel that you're ready to perform in front of a camera,
then send your bio and demo tape to
Jim Beam Video Scheme.
Satellite Media Group.
PO BOX 10218.
Dominion Rd.
Auckland.
Entries for this first round must be in by May 20th. Our judging panel is made
up of music industry professionals and the winner will be announced on May 24th.
There are four rounds in the Jim Beam Video Scheme and you can enter each round
unless you have received a JBVS grant within the last 6 months.
Jim Beam and Satellite Media Group are contributing $10,000 in video production
towards each winning video. The video will debut on m2, but once it has debuted,
a copy of the video will be handed over to the band/artist to be played across
all television channels and shows.

You seem a very cynical bunch, maybe i'm naive but since NZOA only give out $5,000 per video even if you got $5,000 worth of Jim Beam, aren't you $5,000 worth of Jim Beam up on the deal, and a video, if you you get chosen? And since M2 aren't playing your K'lee's and your Feeler's don't you think maybe your lesser mainstream bands might get more of a look in?
Can you choose your own Director and ...
Can you choose your own Director and Post Production?
Or are you stuck with who and what they give you.
Do they film your vid and say "ok thats $10,000 worth of our film time, off you go now..." or do they give you 10k and give you total creative license to do what you want.
I've seen these types of pitches before.... find out exactly what you get, and also what they get.
But yeah... 10k is an awsome prize I'd love it, but all I can play is cards... badly
could be awesome ... no doubt. but ...
could be awesome ... no doubt. but what would make it work would be to get different directors and crews to work on each vid ... that way the whole shabang gets more experience and exposure ...
or will satellite just churn out band in a room, band walks down street, band on the roof, band in the distance ... blah blah ?
just asking
and even if the videos aren't that ...
and even if the videos aren't that great since Satellite run all M2, Space and Squeeze hopefully they'll at least feel obliged to play the videos on those shows, a hell of a lot better than a kick in the head for a band. I know we'll be sending our stuff in.

not cynical at all, i think it's a great scheme, just poking fun, as we do at every thing. Good luck to everyone going for it, It's a shame there are only 4 a year, hopefully if it goes well, they'll come back with 10 or so next year.

this is random i know but the marxist song "fatha beam" is actually named after jim beam (and father ted). so wouldn't it be funny if the first winner was "fatha beam"? of course we wont be sending it in cause its way too crap. u can download it tho:
