NZ Music Month festival

I am no longer sure if I actually heard this on M2 or was asleep and dreaming it, but does anyone know about a three day concert of NZ music sometime during May to celebrate NZ music month - with bands like HDU, Bailterspace, the Chills I think on the bill. A three night thing, with the last night being a flying nun special, terminating with Betchadupa.

Forums: NZ Music,

NZ Month sux... Last year I was really starting to love some NZ singles, but then all the more mainframe stuff was overplayed & I got sick of it all & started to steriotype. Took me ages to start liking NZ stuff again.

Yeah - because they play it safe and trot out a few tried and true things. Maybe the commercial radio and TV people need to do what the B-Net stations do - just run it for a week, twice a year. We're lucky - there is an enormous range to play that fits our sound.

Yeah, if a wide range of stuff was played it would rock. But they didn't & most likely never will. I predict it will suck this year too. Stuff by the Feelers & Rubicon & Stellar is already unbaribly overplayed. Will probably triple :(

for some reason I'm hearing that Pan Am song over and over again. No please, no. Arghhh!!!!

seriously, try the national programe, they do some really good stuff during music month, if past years are anything to go by, and a lot of it is contempery, and you don't have to put up with silly anonusers and stupid advertising

NatRad rocks, and will rock even more if I get a job on it - they're advertising for strange hour staff and dammit I'm applying. In recent times, thanks to the Mix, I have been introduced to Tomahawk and Ladytron and then there is the Saturday afternoon devotion to kiwi music, tho' chopped about recently.

look forward to hearing your words as well as reading them

lmao stefen "that Pan Am" song was just played on nzm radio, now they are playing Gramsci
give me strength and i need to listen.....bugger why is there no replay button

I think I heard last night the guy on m2 say something but he definitely said there was going to be a flying nun special and then he went on to talk about betchadupa's new upcoming album....alphabetchadupa

In the Saturday Herald this morning (/yesturday).

Off the top of my head, here's the info.
Neil Finn's apparently doing another couple of guestastic concerts. I can't remember what the first one's got (I remember it was bands I wasn't interested in...), the second one is a three way affair in the regent, the st james, and some other venue around there in AK (all at the same time apparently, one ticket gets you into each).

The last night is a Flying Nun tribute thingy featuring the bands you mentioned.

I THINK. Don't blame me if I got all that terribly wrong.

Here's the deal...

First night is Tim and Neil Finn plus Dave Dobbyn and some others... is R18...

Second night is all ages.. kicks off at 4 in the afternoon.. and yes is in 3 or 4 different rooms but all in the St James complex.. there's Pluto, ElemenoP, Betchadupa, a hip-hop room.. PLUS.. and this is the big thing... Shihad (*cough*..Pacifier..) are the main act. YAAAYYY!!!

Third night.. R18 again... Flying Nun... unconfirmed lineup.. but likely to be Pan Am, Betchadupa, Chris Knox etc...

Check Weekend Herald for full details.

Bloody expensive if you ask me.. specially if you want to go to all three nights.......

What's the price then? Oh, and date? Maybe I'll go find someone who can sell me a herald at this time of the night. Hmm - yes, I'll go do that.

Or you could go here...

Steph, do you know who's gonna be appearing in the Hip Hop room that night??? And will it be all agez????

All ages Mooli Chick, but looks like you have to buy a ticket to the whle Saturday night event, giving access to the three venues in the St James complex. In the hiphop room will be
Major Flavours (Sir Vere, Scribe, Ali, MZRE, Savage, J1, FCA), Decepticons, Illsemantics, DJCXL, Nesian Mystic and Dubious Bros.

Can anyone tell me if any of these are female artists - the whole thing is looking very much like a boysfest at the moment.

they should be touring round the country! geez it's the anniversary of FN for gawds sake! i remember the 15th anniversary!!! it was huge - four centre gigs, two weekends' worth of 'em! makes me sad that FN haven't really planned anything ...
