No, new tv show promo, just got me thinking and a bit pissed off... just watched flying nun 21st birthday show..... the eightys changed the world.... well maybe???
dude
the world has been changing rapidly for a bit longer than that.
Have you ever thought about living through the decade that the electric light was introduced in?
or the automobile
or the radio?
etc etc etc
dude,
10 points for stateing the obvious,
I was thinking of culturally, maggie's britten, raganomics, poll tax, punk, new wave, disco, the birth of the indies, the death of free love, muldoon- rob the gob- don't give me culture, carless days, nuclear free, band the tour, the rise and fall of the stock market......
//is taste the same as cool?
close.
you'd want to look back on the decade from a long way out and not feel the cringe...
comparing the eighties to the 60's & 70's, it definately lost it's cool for impulse. and impulse can make you think leg-warmers are fashionable.
can't say music. cos i had to grow up with it, and managed to not mind. besides, shit music has probably been around as long as good music.
plenty to cringe about really. the whole format of eighties was sweet, okay. we wouldn't have what we have today. then again, that goes for any time.
maybe it was a spiritual dark-age? bar some simon & garfunkel. mainstream culture seemed to take a giant leap for the 21st centuary space age and missed by forty years, even a hundred. shit, i honestly don't care. things happened the way they did because.
Perms, mullets and rats tales were all pretty 'cool' in the 80's.
I would have to agree with the opening statement though - but so were the early 90's.
The clothes and hair were definatly the worst!!!!!
WHITE SPEEDOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
Thank God I have a shite memory! Although those little crotch-hugging boy togs of the 50's were worse!!!
I used to wear sweat bands and huge slouch socks - I didn't have a perm, but I had the ponytail on the side of my head, with a nice gel'd fringe - not quite cool enough for the perm.
My fiend kelly had the baddest mullet - I'm talking billy ray cyrus style!
my mum gave me a mullet or "the helmet" cut during the 80's, but she has to take full responsibililty for that, i was too young to know better......she also gave my sister a fringe that started half way back her head.....we all still laugh at her for that fringe......and my mum herself had a nice tight perm! but then she got the chop and then had that lovely style of the really short man's cut for girl's....mmmm the 80's were classy.....
YYeah i really gotta say taht the 80's were a let down on style in all catagories.
Cars, music and clothing
the whole of the world seems to have been doing some trippy stuff in order to believe that anything they done had any sort of style or flare.
i was only alive for two years of the eighties
but some pretty fucking good music came out of it
think sonic youth, joy division, fugazi
the fashion was debatable though
love livvie
Cant say i have ever heard any of the music from these bands which you have said produced good music so i am going to find them and see :) i hope your right i hate to think of a whole decade wasted on crap.

i was just thinking of bands that were good in the 80s, and i couldnt think of any. definetly joy division, and sonic youth in the late 80s, but i see fugazi as an early 90s band.
