Bands that aren't bollix.

I mean hey you can like your Rubicons/Steriograms/Feelers/Tadpoles/Blindspott etc etc. But lets face it, they're mainstream with a capital M.

I for one fucking LOVE bands like the D4, Pluto, The Brunettes etc etc who dare to push the envelope that the moment. And I'm just starting here. Theres Golden Horse, the Rock N Roll Machine and sooo many others.

I try to get out and see as many of these so-called "credible" NZ bands as possible, but it would be cool if some people could bring to the attention of people who need education on the underground shit that hardly anyone bothers to go and see cos they're not thrashed on ZM and Channel Z. Cos hey, I can't be remembering all these bands at once ya know. And I wouldn't mind finding out about a few new bitchin' bands myself.

hollis, my darling, I'm expecting an excellent list from you.

Forums: NZ Music,

Hodogs
Thunderhound (They'll resume soon)
Handsome Geoffrey (if you like that kind of thing)
Goldenhorse (of course)
the Circles
Renee-Louise Carafice
Peddling Machine Gunner (may never play again)
The Met Service (thinking about starting again)
Police Lucifier
Mercenaries(gods)
Brother J
Sola Monday
Ed Cake (Dad)
Datsuns

that'll do for now

*drools*

Ooooh how could I have forgotten my beloved Datsuns? Not to mention The Mercenaries!

a lot of these bands cannot get their shit together to make a copy of their music for the public.
All they can do is make the music.
There is something deeply religous in that.

They're not doing it for the money.
They're not doing it for the fame.
They're doing it cos they want to and they can.
And they're probably too wasted or don't care enough to make it into the studio.

Now THAT is rock n roll.

After all, live music is the essence of rawk and thats how you should truly experience it.

PS: I'm not saying don't by the CDs or don't listen to the radio, but you can't ever fully appreciate a band unless you see them live. And thats all half these bands do - play live. *sighs* Good, simple BRILLIANCE is hard to find on the radio anyway (apart from Pluto and a few others).

I couldn't have said it better.
Have you taken a husband?

No I'm open to offers.

Only from you hollis though *wink*

I've heard the Mercs are playing tonight. It would have been Nas's birthday

ooooh WHERE?

I'm broke and can't afford but I guess my overdraft will stretch to see these guys.

K.A
I think

//Have you taken a husband?

Have you?

sorry, im drunk at the mo, just got a tad too excited that u know about kate in the lemon tree.I dont need to know who u are. Ive never chatted on any internet chat rooms before, so im a bit slow on the 'rules'.....
Isnt pete in a monestary at the moment??? i didnt think that he talked to people anymore. I hope we are talking about the same pete.

yeah, he's back in Wellington at the monastry. He's also now fully ordained.
No drums
No music
No money
just thinking really
its quite a beautiful life.
except for the no music part.
I think that was the hardest thing for him to deal with.

Pluto are also playing with the Mercs tonight.
oh yeah

if u emailed an inquiry to chris t, then u wont get a reply for a while because he smashed his computer..... exercise machine is a great band, it has simon matt and paul from hit machine, and also jol (fuce) on guitar. jol is also filling in for paul in the hit machine because paul is in oz at the moment.
And on a different note, i just got home from 'summer jam' with silverchair, rubicon, tadpole, feelers and che fu. (I went 'cause i got tickets for free) the sound was amazing - esp the drums, man they were just pounding. tadpole didnt sound too good, rubicon had good stage presence and sounded good, silverchair played a good solid set, che has a lovely voice and feelers... well nothing to say about them really........blahblahblah.

What time is it? And how much?

Are you going to go along hollis? *eyes hollis suspiciously*

I havn't been able to get that 'Greatest View' song out of my head for days.

Chris must have access to another computer
because he's been fairly regular
I did know he smashed it into a million pieces.
he really is so precious

sorry.I don't.

I may be going.
I may not.
who can say?

normal times apply I guess.

OK,
I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD ITS FREE.

OMG I AM SO GOING IF ITS FREE

WOOHOO

i have pedalling machine gunner video clips that chris made...... have u seen them??
i could pass on your inquiry if u want, i see them all the time.

yeah,I'd love to see it.

Is Nans settling back in OK?

You could add another couple that noizyboy and Hollis haven't got - Paseload do an excellent live gig, are currently working on getting their album out, had one track on the RipItUp Cd that came out last year. Hard to say exactly what they're doing - a very twisted rock. Marystaple are a bit more straight rock and roll, but do a thundering gig - their singles are very deceptive. Another Wellington band is the Lamps - getting slightly goth a la Cure, but awesome live.

D4 leads me to Day One. Oh, and if you like the Dunedin sound, Valve are quite new, but follow on from My Deviant Daughter, and then there's Formica, although a bit older. And Mink - very wierd sounds come from this band, though they're no longer together - DeMarnia has gone on to Cloudboy.

Foamy Ed would be good to see live, their recordings go off, if you like the chick-punk thing. I'll do my show and if more names pop up while that's happening, I'll give you some more.

I've heard many a brilliant thing about this Paselode band. But I have never heard that they've played in Auckland or anything like that and I never go to Welly so it guess us Aucklanders are missing out?!

What kind of style are they?

sushi rock

http://www.paselode.com ]

i thought he moved to china or something.... hmmm , i hope he doesnt start up 'idolz of eve' again, i really really dont like that band. so when u talked about 'Thunderhound' before, do u mean Nans's band 'The pelvic thunderhound'????
I have 3 or 4 pedalling machine gunner video clips that chris made. he also made the most incredible video for a song of his called 'structure 347', its 10mins long and feature heaps of his toys eg. smurfs, star wars toys and more. It is bloody amazing. u should ask him to send copies to you, u will LOVE them sooooo much.

I forgot Dimmer - how could I? I've only seen them about six times in the last year, best gig was when they came to town with King Kapisi. I'd say they're my current favourite and I am really looking forward to the new album.

Ah - Space Dust on the radio - now there's a Kiwi band, wish they'd tour.

Ah - sushi rock - reminds me to mention The Holow Grinders for surf rock, and The Mobile Stud Unit, for putting the Vagina Monologues to bad-ass Hamilton rock music.

And Martha, not that I'm making eyes at you or anything, too old for such things - but passion for Kiwi music is dead sexy.

Phoenix Foundation "Loaf" is on the radio - who else could sing "I've been seraching for a truck/ to be my best friend". And that takes me to Pine "Speeding".

you're NOT making eyes at moi?

B-b-but why?

*bursts into tears*

I am passionate about all good music, not just NZ music. I think thats even sexier. REOW.

Now, now, please don't cry. I hate to see sexy women cry. Or anyone really. Except maybe George W Bush, now that I'd pay to see.

I'm pretty much into all music, have had to do another show on the radio, because I couldn't put Chicks on Speed, Nick Cave, Spiritualised, Ladytron.... in a kiw music show. What outside these fair isles is to your taste?

Um...

Fuck I hate questions like these. Heres a few recent ones that I adore (or not too recent but anyway its not the whole picture just all I can think of right now):

- At the Drive In
- Pavement
- Doves
- The Vandals
- The White Stripes

My latest thing is And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead.

Um... fuck. I hate it when you can't think of things.

White Stripes are great - they came and played to, like, 12 people in Palmerston North when they were here in 2000, first I'd really heard of them. Have all their CD's now, caught them at Big Day Out, main reason I went really - loved the extended version of Forevever Union. Sorry to put you on the spot by asking, I couldn't answer myself really - my house is just a mess of records and CD's and now that I've discovered it, Uncut magazines - had to boot out my flatmate to make more room for me and my stuff!

Trail of dead fucking fantastic noise rock band

oh awesome, i can't believe that someone else out there likes pedalling machine gunner. I think they are amazing. They won't be playing again, but dont worry, some of the members have started up a new band called "metservice", which are just as good. They have a song on a cd called 'finetuned' which was just released by the guys from The Package.
