If it's the one for the May issue, it's the NZ On Air indie hit disk. This is a CD put out by NZ On Air for broadcasters only. It's never been for sale before and this may be the first time it's been available to the public. The indie hitdisks feature the latest singles from NZ independant bands and are well worth getting your hands on. The one you will get free with your Rip It Up will have songs from Lucid 3, Marystaple, Eight and a whole heap more. Well worth it imho.
I have it, its pretty rock oriented - very nice Shapeshifter electronica/female vocal to finish the CD off - I'm actually kicking off my show with it tonight. I liked the Marystaple, Lucid3 and Dana Eclair track "troubles" (there's another band you could look out for.
The mag itself was a bit weak, too much retrospective, very little current, and they seemed to like Andrew WK - but $8 for 12 kiwi songs - you betcha its worth it.
I should also add that as this is essentially the NZ On Air indie hit disk, that every radio station in the country will now have these songs in their programme director's hot little hands. So if you really want to help these bands out, you can call up your local station and request they play these songs. radio airplay = $$ for these bands.
didnt understand the inclusion of p money or shapeshifter.. the albums by both these artists SHOULD be in your collection already... lindon puffin song was on some other free cd not so long ago.. (annoyingly catchy tho)...
The Pan Am track is by FAR the best on the cd... and is worth the coverprice for that alone.... look out for some more from them soon I wager..
The mag was.. ummm... yeh.. well... a bit try hard aye...
I've listened to this quite a bit recently for some reason ... it's actually a really good compilation. Maybe I should get some more NZonair indie discs ... they're pretty easy to come across at Slowboat in Wellington, I seem to recall.
