M2 appreciation thread

I watched M2 last night for the first time in a couple of weeks. I've always thought it was a great idea pulled off brilliantly, and it seems to have got even better.

P Money's comments about Cypress Hill and Alien Antfarm make him the most credible presenter in television today, IMO. Not a lot of people can say what they really mean anymore, and I think it's great that he is encouraged to give his honest opinion on things.
The general atmosphere in the presenter breaks seems to be good too, and most of the presenters seem to get on.

I think it's also good that the specialist shows are (hopefully?) earlier now, it sucked having to stay up until 4 if you wanted to watch some decent videos.

My only complaints are that they play too much nu-metal, a couple of the presenters suck, and those porn ads get irritating when viewed for the 20th time in an hour. But they're all easy fixed with the aid of a remote and Cartoon Network.

I've also noticed that since M2 has come onto the scene, shows like Space and (to a lesser extent) Squeeze have also improved their quality. If Cue was still on and they played more Tori Amos on J2, I don't think you could ask for much more in terms of music television. Who the fuck needs MTV?

Forums: NZ Music,

Feel free to add your ejaculations about the state of anything else here, by the way.
Negativity will be met with scornful looks.

are you feeling ok kid? is it just me or is there positivity in here? hehehe

i agree.

when i heard tvnz was getting a new music show and it would run in the early hours of the morning, i shook my head and thought 'when was the last time a state owned broadcaster got music shows right?'...... but i find myself incredibly willing to stay up for it, cos it's so damn good. their specials on international bands are spot on, and of the quality that we hardly ever get to see on nz screens.

what did pmoney say about those two groups? honesty from credible presenters is the shiznabit too...

The general feeling was that he didn't think much of either of them.
He was on the verge of ranting about Alien Antfarm, but Jane Yee managed to shut him up.

Good show.

Lets hope NZOA and TVNZ get together and find some more money so M2 can become 24-7 !

I've never watched M2... Yay, holidays, maybe I'll give it a try. Yeah rockgerl, I'd be so cool to have a good free music channel. Tho I'm no longer jealous of Sky. I watched @ my grandparents today (the only place I do) & saw nothing good on Juice or J2. Also, no good movies were on or programmes or cartoons. The interactive games suck too.

Juice and J2 have the occasional good vid, but they seem a bit more spread out than on M2 - which has music split into particular genres - like Alt, hiphop, dance - and has a short kiwi show called No 8. They also have guests come in and DJ - some are very good. I quite like Jane as a host, a bit squeaky maybe, and Glen can be a bit full on but is also generally OK. I just wish someone would tell Jo that she is not at all funny - I think if she didn't try so hard, she'd actually be OK too, but the way she is, I just cringe.

I don't want it to be 24/7 - because then I'd really feel I'm missing out, having to work and all: pure selfishness of course.

Yeah man, and you can't stretch a tape out for 24 hours!

I like M2 and I'm especially into Joe Cotton. She seems to be genuinely enjoying herself and is always fun.

I was a bit disappointed with the hip-hop show last night which turned into the "Hi, I'm P-Money. Buy my album." show. Two of his videos and plugs for the album got a bit boring after a while. But they did play the video to "Fallen Angels" by Deceptikonz, so that made up for the excessive P-Moneyness.

One really good thing about M2 is on the NZ music show they sometimes play old, alternative New Zealand videos that probably wouldn't ever get screened anywhere else.

Also, and I think this needs to be said again, Ms Cotton rules.

im watching it right now actually......yea i dont mind it....its better than nothing....i like it but it doesnt really get me too excited...i've only ever watched the top twelve cus i dont really fancy sitting there for a whole hour while listening to rap.....not my thing, ive wanted to stay up and watch the house section but ive never managed to remain concious yet.......but i'll see how long i can last tonight......:) jo's starting to grow on me, she's getting a little more natural now and she can get quite funny.....

oh and does anyone know what the website is? she says it too fast, i cant hear what she's saying.....

Don't bother with the "go to tv2.nzoom.com and click on the M2 logo" bollocks. The direct address of M2's website is:

http://www.music2.tv/ ]

Dammit! Why cant they just give us that one? tv.nzoom.com crap...
Not being negative (strictly) but Id have to say that of all the presenters, Greg and Joe need to brush up a bit on their technique - Greg's obviously a bit more fond of hiphop and dance than nu metal or anything similar, and fair enough, but I dont want to listen to him putting down what I think are decent bands when its a broad-focus show. On ya, though, Greg. And Joe...maybe Im just not over TruBliss (i.e., wondering how they sold records) but I thought putting her on TV, music TV at that, was just wrong. However, she seems to be getting better...I just wish she wasnt on the fist shows when im actually awake.
Constructive "opinion giving" for you all, dont mind me...

Did you notice how the top 12 was almost all the same sound - from memory, no female vocals, no electronica, all white-boy rock. The only tracks I really enjoyed were the Tool one at no 12 and then Blindspott.

Did you stay up for Stylus - that was one of the best ever I reckon, but then I am big fan of female vocals over dance music - the Nitin Sawhinney track was just so seductive.

I have to say that I found myself genuinely laughing with Jo last night, rather than backing away scaredly! When she came back for the retro show, she was actually pretty much great - lauging away at the incredible bad taste of some of those tracks: the Cure's Caterpillar is just very strange, so too with Depeche Mode. I thought it was funny that Jo and I had exactly the same reaction to Blondie - "what the f*ck was she wearing"!!

Um - which show does Greg do?

top 12 is done by votes from the punters isnt it? so ya can't really complain to m2 about it

No - I was thinking about what it says about the punters.

mmmmm, tool.... thats it, im watching tonight

Um, Megaccino, you might need to wait till next week now, sorry. Spend your time voting for Tool - its was Sober which made the cut this week, so your best bet might be to vote for that.

true - guess theres not enough internet literate/motivated enough underground spanish rap lovers out there to make a difference, white boy rock does seem to have the numbers.

im surprised it wasnt schism in there... people seem to be nostalgic. even if i was going for aenima tho, there would have been a few others before sober......

It's more likely to be just one munter voting for the same song a bunch of times...

I think teenagers will be always more likely than other demographics to vote for things like this, so the votes are always skewed in favour of whatever bands they like this week. I don't mind - I don't watch that show (and hence don't bother voting).

Butterfly, the specialist shows (for example the dance one this morning) are now on at 2am I believe (unless they just changed them for this weekend), so you don't have to stay up all night to catch them. You can always tape it anyway.

Yeah, I just noticed it wasn't on tonight & came online to laugh @ myself. I've signed up & shall be voting :)
I haven't seen the Sober vid - Only Schism, Stinkfist & Prison Sex. So I'll vote for that.

last night me and some friends were watching the top 12 and getting annoyed that the top few songs are the same pretty much every week. we planned to vote for a bon jovi song a lot. that would be really funny if it got to number 1 dont u think.

Real funny if it was something completely different - Bon Jovi is just an older version of what is played now. Block voting for something that comes up on the Stylus show, or Deceptikonz, or Lucid3 - now that would alter things.

Shall we make it happen?

OMG!! I luv M2, I just won a CD!! I signed up & entered all the random competitions & today in the mil a random CD came... Roadrunner CD thingy, with random metal-y rock-y bands.
Go to the below link & see my name in the winners list! Not that you'll know what my name is, but it's one of the Chch people... Hehehehe, M2 rocks!

well done ms. white...

Cool - me too. Got home yesterday, there was a CD sized thingey in the mailbox, thought it was funny since when I order CD's I don't get them sent to my home - turned out to be the Ministry of Sound Cillout CD from M2 - its all good.

Thanks for telling ppl my name Jimi... Tho, yes there was only 1 female from chch there & it could easily be found @ Propagandacrew website.

Well done Mr Allan ;)

hehehe sorry megaccino, but

//there was only 1 female from chch there... (i only found that out after i wrote your name tho)

//it could easily be found @ Propagandacrew website.
so true.

Ehh? If you only just noticed I was the only Chch Chick, then how did you get my name? I'm assuming off Propaganda... Or ur creepier than Spike.

oh im a very dodgy customer.....

anyway more on the topic, how good is the cd? what bands are on it?

I've only listened to it once so far, but I really like it... Mmmmm, metal, the best genre...
it has

Coal Chamber - Glow
Five Pointe O - Double X Minus
" " " - Untitled
Crazyfists - Slit Wrist Theory
" " - Turns To Ashes
Killswitch Engage - Temple From Within (demo)
" " " - Numbered Days (demo)
Ill Nino - What Comes Around
Sinch - Tabula Rasa

Very cool :)
PS, are you the person who goes by Jimmy when signing guestbooks?

well?

errr no, dont think so? where was this sposed to be?
aargh im feeling guilty cos this shows up on the 'last ___ posts' screen.... ummmmmm....

whats the best song on that cd?
what band is called " " " oh wait that would be 'ditto'
can you buy this cd?

Didn't Ill Nino used to be Il Nino?
Or was that a different band?

Or am I just wrong?

Nhhh, if you don't know what I mean it's prob not you. I'm not gonna say anything else about that...
Yes, " " " means ditto, look above, but spaces dont work between them.
I haven't decided what ones I like, I was playing playstation so wasn't paying too much attention. I think one of the earlier ones, by 5 pointe 0. I wouldn't have a clue of you can buy, probably not. Are they all NZ bands? Do you know?

fair enough...isnt it spooky how i knew yr name tho......

dont think any of them are nz bands. their names dont 'sound' nz really.... coal chamber and ill nino definitely arent.

ill have to win one for myself

It says it's for promotional use only, so I doubt it's sell able...
I still don't get it, did you just guess my name from that list then??

I dunno, but it's def' spelt Ill on the CD I have

Megaccino, are you asking if any of the RR sampler bands are from NZ? I don't think Roadrunner have any NZ signings. Haven't you heard of Coal Chamber before?
That Ill Nino song sounds like Linkin Park.

Ok.. I've heard of Coal Chamber, but I couldn't put any songs to the name. Stop making me sound like a dumbass ;)
Yep, I've decided I like the Ill Nino one & Slit Fist Theory.

Um, I probably spelt it wrong. Is Il Nino a Latinish-numetal-emo band signed to Roadrunner? I think they're meant to be the next big RR success story (to replace those quitters Fear Factory) since Glassjaw did quite well it makes sense for RR to pinch more emo/scremo bands.

Hey I thought it was funny that you said P-Money was "credible" when he made no secret of the fact that he dedicated his (almost) entire show to a CD he was (co-) releasing. I thought you'd think that was whorish. Did you see him on the couch during Number 8? Jane and P-Money sitting in a tree...

Phwoar matron!

I can forgive P Money's whoring, because the album is actually good, and the fact that I bought it means his evil seizure-inducing subversions are obviously effective.
Lets just say he's the exception that proves the rule then.

Jane and P-Money aren't sitting in a tree. I know this because I'm Jane.

classic.

its not an unattractive thought though is it Jane?

Eeeee!
Jane Yee posted in my thread!

<3 <3 <3

You're attracted to P-Money Hollis? You're openess is admirable! But seriously, you know it's impossible to answer that question without putting my foot in it one way or another.

me and P-money?
we'd be at blows within minutes.

but you don't have to answer.....
one must be professional and all that.......
carry on

crikey who isnt attracted to P-Money?!.....phroar :P
