Top 8 bands of 2002

Can you guys help me with something for NZ music month?
Who would be the Top 8 New Zealand bands, musicians that sum up the last year in New Zealand music? They have to be significantly contributing to the industry on a commercial level or - be a commercially viable up and coming act.
All feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Ciao

Forums: NZ Music,

Salmonella Dub, Tadpole, Goodshirt, Pluto, King Kapisi, Augustino, Slim, Steriogram

Taking into account this bit:

/ They have to be significantly contributing to the industry on
/ a commercial level or - be a commercially viable up and coming act.

Anika Moa, Che Fu, Halley Whatsername, Stellar*, Fur Patrol, The Feelers, Nurture, Tadpole

There are heaps of others though - Che to Anika Moa to Blindspott to The D4.

Blindspott, Augustino, Goodshirt, Pluto, The D4, The Black Seeds, Sommerset, Anika Moa

yes Anika Moa, goodshirt, and
Sterogram should get NZ on air funding for a doco covering their school tour.... going in to schools workshopping with highschool artists, all age concerts with high school bands opening.... i would gladly pay taxes to see that

Thanks guys - was hoping for more of a response than this... obivously people are more interested in NZ Musician survivor.... eek.

NZ Musician survivor SUCKS.

What the hell is going on with that topic? I know I've thought of a few shockers in my time, but ah well.

my vote goes to Peking Man, Soul On Ice, Sattelite Spies and Dragon.

Trinity Roots, Black Seeds, Salmonella Dub, Fat Freddy's Drop, Sola Rosa, Pitchblack, Shape Shifter mmmmm

Fuk...I forgot Jakob...last but not least by any means!!

//Trinity Roots, Black Seeds, Salmonella Dub, Fat Freddy's Drop, Sola Rosa, Pitchblack, Shape Shifter and Jakob

very nice list.....

i held back cause miss lemonade asked for "significantly contributing to the industry on a commercial level or - be a commercially viable up and coming act"

which basically makes the list - zed, rubicon blah blah ... thats where most of the record sales go right... kinda a dumb question

i would prefer to answer what 8 bands made the biggest impact on the nz scene last year

cool - so do your own topic.

//All feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!

great

your question is not subjective, no point asking for other peoples help,..just take a look at last years charts for a list of what literally are the most "commercially viable" groups

yawn

No need to be smarty pants lemonade...just helping you out doll

Its all good from you pitchblack.... there's history elsewhere :-)

Dimmer, HDU, Carriage H, Sola Rosa, meterman, sommerset, dead C, SHIHAD!

what dunedin kid said
but bailterspace in there somewhere as well

Difinatly Steriogram, those guys are touring 'round going to nz schools and holding music workshops for the lil bandtites, thats so wicked. Also, Mamasaid, umm.. Pluto, Sal* Dub (im lazy heh), lil Hayley Westenra, Feelers, yeah, Goodshirt.. even though I'm not much of a fan but they are really telented guys and work hard at what they do last but no where near least, Slim and Augustino mutated together cos I can only have one more

Goodhsirt, Salmonella Dub, Tadpole, Shihad (which is now Pacifier) and umm...Garageland.

i haven't thought about this, but an eight... would... be...
king kapisi
salmonella dub
shihad/pacifier
fur patrol (all of which were playing australian tele last year)
black seeds
trinity roots
p-money
and the last one could be random selection 'cos they're all doing it to it. and that is all good. p.s. that was a lot harder than i would have thought.

umm id have to say:
feelers, zed, soda, canvas, marystaple, blindspott, pluto and sommerset...
not in any particular order or anything
