Forums: NZ Music,

So, working for the company that makes Squeeze is a requisite for being on Squeeze these days (Jo Cotton on Squeeze last week, P Money on this week). Surprise surprise, the same people who make M2 also make Squeeze.

Coincidence?

P-Money happens to be one of our best hip-hop DJ's. Not only is he the NZ ITF champ 3 years running, he also came 3rd equal at the International DMC's in London last year. Joe is also very well known due to her involvement in TrueBliss and was an entirely appropriate person to be on the pop episode as she is candid about what went wrong in the band. We're hardly likely to ignore the success of certain people just because they work at for same company. We've spoken to hundreds of people who DON'T work at this company...
Bear in mind also that Joe and P-Money are part of M2 due to their involvement in music, Squeeze is a music show, you do the maths - New Zealand is kind of a small country. We're not about to do a show on Jamie Bowen, Nick D. or Glen Puklowski...but maybe we should???

Why would there be a whole show on P money? He is hardly a big act in NZ music.
Why cant squeeze do something on HDU and the DEAD C who have been invited to the biggest alternative music festival in the world or Carriage H and other new bands putting out debut Records?
I think there is something funny going down at squeeze.
Jane yee is also in P money's music videos! god damn!

yeah but jane yee is honey. so she should.
yum.

I agree there shouldn't be a whole show dedicated to P money.
People complained when there was a show dedicated to pop i didn't i thought that was good because it was showing the different groups in NZ music. But a whole show about a dude who really isn't that well known i think is silly.
I think squeeze shows more interest in North Island bands than south island bands, I mean if HDU or teh DEAD C were from auckland it would be all over the whole RIU,SPACE,SQUEEZE network. But no not a mention! and it aint because it is hard to get to them HDU are in Auckland right now then coming back in 3 weeks. Carriage H are in auckland in like 3 weeks. so what the fucks the deal?

one more thing
NOISE ROCK REVOLUTION!

Go Sqeeze for dedicating a show to a relatively new artist rather than doing a retrospective on somebody who was big in the 70s or 80s.

I agree with that Foaf. The point I was trying to make is that while singling out an artist for a program is good, it seems funny that the only one they've done in a while happens to be on a company employee. I'm not discrediting what P Money has done in terms of his musical achievements, which I think are great, there just seems to be some bias. If thats not the case, then sorry, I'm wrong, but I don't think I'm wrong for pointing out what many people might perceive.

respect to pmoney and squeeze

annasmith ... shssshhh

I think P money is great. Just i didn't think he was established enough to have a whole show about him.

established as NZ's best dj, and a dam fine producer too, listen to Che Fu's new stuff P Money had a big involvement in that

good on squeeze for having something other than mainstream i say, fuck bieng established

We can understand people might think how there is some bias, but we are just doing the show on someone we think deserves it. there was no pressure on us for the show we are free to choose whatever topic we wish. P Money was to be the first show of this season just after he was at the World Champs but he wanted us to wait until closer to his album release. He's one guy who has done a lot in raising the profile of Hip Hop in New Zealand and to be third equal in the world is no mean feat.

By the way we are looking into a noise rock episode soon, because as you said HDU are in auckland and Carriage H are coming up in the future, We'll let you know.

What else is coming up for Squeeze?

Squeeze is still a 30 minute program right? So minus ads that's only really about 23mins of actual program, minus 2 music videos at around probably 7 mins, that works out to be around 16 mins total on P-Money. That's not really an unreasonable amount of time to dedicate to one artist.

There's nothing worse than hearing "*your favourtite artist's name* will be appearing on *music programme name * tonight", so you tune in and it's a 2 minute interview. With 16 minutes dedicated to artists, maybe we'll actually get to know a little more about them than just the name of their new album and their tour dates.

and totally agreed.

i fully can't wait for p-money to feild his new lp... i'm buying that with no qualms. his abilities shone through bigtime on che fu's navigator. and he's seems like the half decent guy he probably is. loving the fact he is world class, does anybody know how many dj's in north america and europe outnumber ours by? guessing astromical for a start.
so go for gold brother... as if you haven't already.

He's just been announced as the local support act for Destiny's Child in May. Takin' it to the masses...

Did anyone watch the Squeeze episode on P-Money? Your thoughts??? If you missed it, it's on again this Thursday night at 11.30
