it's OK, but like Blink pointed out you can't really chant it (nothing to stop us still doin' "SHI-HAD" though) . . . and it's just really bland . . . maybe it's the whole 4-syllable thing? or the meaning behind it? . . .
Hopefully the new music will be cool enough to give it a NEW meaning . . .
I like it! I suggested it a couple months ago, ... does that mean anything? - not sure if they had it in mind already. It has a nice, lived in feel, plus it's already associated with em, so it feel like a good choice to me. Props to the guys for staying at least partially conencted to the past. Plus it's great to have it finally settled. Let the US campaign begin!!!
I wonder what their domain name will be then. I see pacifier.com and .net are taken by some Pacifier Online. pacifierband.com is taken by "Hideo Fuji LLC" and pacifier.co.nz isn't even registered (and wouldn't really be appropriate for the bands international aspirations anyway). They must have registered a domain name before announcing the name, you'd think.
I did a search for "Hideo Fuji" and found this item on an Australian music news site:
"Shihad’s plans to play at Melbourne club 9th Ward last week under the name Hideo Fuji was abruptly cancelled when the club’s weekly newsletter accidentally spilled the beans."
i like pacifier - as someone said, linked with the past and as someone else said, ironic given the situation (a little joke all we little nzers can laugh at while the big bad americans buy the cd's, blissfully unaware).
still, the chant going up before nz gigs will always be 'shi-had, shi-had!'
i can't wait!
anyway, i always thought the name was one of the less important parts of a band.... i'm willing to like any name as long as it has good music behind it.
yeah it is good but i thought if they were gonna go for an old song name they could of gone for something kinda cliche like "silvercup".
i think i will allways no them as shihad and ill probly put their cds in the "s" part of my collection
i wish ol tomble would post sumthing, cause i learn so much from his posts, why the hell r the news so slow? i knew bout the name change a while b4 it was put in the news...
people who know nuthing bout shihad r saying "they'll spend all their time in the USA" i know thats not true but i really just need reasurance :'( i'll be shouting fire fire & shih-had shi-had the're both catchy & they'll sound soo cool when 3000 people r chanting, im rambling now but im remembering the town hall gig... :D
i think it doesnt really matter what they are called now - to almost everyone who has ever heard of them, they were and probably still will be known as 'shihad' - well in NZ anyway - as jimi darling said //still, the chant going up before nz gigs will always be 'shi-had, shi-had!'
i can't wait!
they only did it to make it 'nicer' for the americans *i'm still bitter*...
i can't say i'm happy with pacifier - it just doesnt fit *reminds me too much ot the zed silencer cover i guess lol*....it'll probably grow on me evetually, but right now - it just seems wrong.....seems to 'nice' for shihad - ahhhh what am i on????
- i'll have to wait a couple of days i think...
(did anyone read the article about it on the front page of the evening post tonight?)
I think thats a good one! I wonder if it had been an attack on NZ, they'd even THINK changing all the band names that sound similar to things connected to it.
Changing our name has been one of the hardest things we have ever faced - the reasons for it, and the struggle we have overcome need no further explanation.
'Pacifier' was one of the first names that came up - it carries with it alot of history for both the band and everyone who has supported us.
Music has always been the the most important thing in our lives, and ultimately it has been what keeps us going. When you listen to our album and come to our show - we want to leave you feeling pacified.
Our name signifys not only a belief in ourselves but in the need for the relief big loud rock music can provide for the human spirit - It also signifys the beginning of a new chapter in our career and the most exciting, colourful and powerful music we have ever made - And last but not least - Jon's mum has pacifier tatooed on her back - it's her favorite song of ours.
thats totally f'n rad.... i mean HEY they speak!!! :)
onya guys... i mean it.. I mean, personally, Shihad will always be Shihad... no matter the name, but more importantly... i know any time i hear a Shihad or Pacifier song, i recognise it as being music made by four ROCKIN' guys who are loving what they are doing.. and thats all that really matters!!!!
Pacifier has long been a personal favourite, and its a band fav as well.. at almost every gig this BDO tour jon would say it was his fav song... i mean its still all the same stuff ya know!??!?!
i'll always be left feeling pacified after any shihad/pacifier experience!
keep rockin' on fellaz! we can't wait for the album!!
kat
see thats what i love bout shihad/pacifier they talk to us, i don't think fred durst would put his opinion on why limp bizkit soundz the way it does, shihad/pacifier r great guys & they respect their fans, even the guys who diss them
thanx tom for always being there 2 explain confusing stuff concering the fiya (fiya (its a play on pacifier, for those slower people out there) sounds pretty good ay :D) thats what makes such a loyal fan base & thats what makes such a great band GO KICK SUM US BANDS ASS & IMPRESS THEM SO MUCH, THOSE STUPID (in general) AMERICANS TRY TO SAY SHIHAD R A US BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i kinda like it, if it's ironic then fine. maybe more like coincidental.
tombles right when he says that the band are going through a new chapter in their career. they were going to anyway. though this has capped it bigtime.
Right on, mate.. and I've been at the promoting thing since a friend turned me on to them.. that person's friend "discovered" them while working on a movie set down there (LOTR?).. since then I've gotten ALL of their releases save for my sis in C-church hasn't found me BLUE LIGHT DISCO.. and dammit - now I need a new copy of GTE, as someone I loaned it to seems to have scratched it. I won't be satisfied til they're multiplatinum! Cheers!
hmmm......i'm with the pitchblack boys. they'll always be shihad in my heart but pacifier is as good a name as ever. i'm sure the US will love 'em. good on ya, boys!
Yeah, Stefan, but "half.com" is EBay, which means it's used.. but thanks for the heads up, as I appear to be missing the CD from the jewel of "Killjoy"! What a great way to start my day - finding a replacement disc for $.75 (with shipping, $2.30)! For anyone who's interested, by the way, here's the link to my (sort of) industrial cover of AC/DC's Highway To Hell; I did it for an "original cover song" contest put on by Shure Mic Co. Enjoy!
Ok.. on the "email the Program Director" tip.. I DID get an answer back. He (Jack Paper, PD for our local Clear Channel Communications stations - a heavy hitter worldwide in radio) thanked me for the heads up and will "keep an eye and ear open for them". So I guess we'll have to WAIT AND SEE if PACIFIER gets booked! Damn, that would be cool! I'm hoping these new connections with their management here and all that and the big names associated get them off the ground, cuz it ain't easy tryin' to get to LA when San Fran is closer and harder to make it to anyway, when ya ain't a kid anymore and have a family! GO PACIFIER!
I take offence to your name kuntakinte as Native Marshall Island American (please look at my profile)

to me, pacifier takes away form the music slightly, cos it takes the edge off - as many people have said, they will always be shihad.
