shihad in the USA?

Shihad's Jon Toogood, a man on fire ..
Shihad's New Name - Pacifier
13/03/2002 02:26 PM

The USA Hits magazine web site, always first with USA music business news, reports that the band Pacifier, signed and produced by Josh Abraham, showcased at the Viper Room on Tuesday March 12 at 10.30 pm.

This would have to be Shihad, as 'Pacifier' was a popular single off their last album The General Electric. Sounds like an okay name for terrorism sensitive foreign countries, but is there any reason for the band to change their name in Australia and New Zealand. It sounds like a better name than their prior choice, Remote.

After loads of speculation as to the new name for Shihad (due to the name being a misspelling of Jhihad, used in the movie Dune) it is a bit of an anti-climax to read the new name in a small item on the Rumours section of a USA web site.

Forums: NZ Music,

might of just been an alias for the gig

yea, would anyone go if they were called shihad (according to their reasons anyway)????

this is not relevant to the name change, but is it true that Jay Gordon is doing guest vocals for the new shihad/pacifier/whatever album?

i don't know, but they're hanging out with members of some pretty big bands - my favourite being the drummer and guitarist from a perfect circle! with those connections, a duet between jon and maynard james keenan could be a possibility. oh god, i drool at the thought.

it would be quite a smart move to get an established american artist to go on a track - there's your initial audience organised.

And perhaps doing a cover of a (well known?) song would grab a bit more audience too.

Hey all.. I've been a huge (American) fan of Shihad since a year ago.. bought all of their releases now except my sis from Christchurch hasn't found me BLUE LIGHT DISCO yet. I apologise for the morons here who took their name as a terrorist thing - especially when the word "jihad" literally means "struggle". Nevamind that.. I've waited SOOOO long for this new release! Been spreading the word. Don't really care for very many of the current bands domestically. To me, Shihad is like fresh meat! Sure hope others here feel the same. These guys have worked so long and hard, they deserve worldwide success! Good luck boys!
