When Fans cross the Line and become Fanatics

What information do we have no right to know, what is public information what is private?
When people enter the Public Domain do they still have a right to a private life or did they give it all up with their first interview with Girlfriend

Forums: The Bar,

Every person has a right to a private life famous or not. Although it is human nature (unfortunately) to become infatuated there is still a point where it goes to far. Why ask if certain band members have "GF'S" what difference does it make, and if they don't would they really consider socialising with an infatuated fan...I presume not! I personally know of people in the industry who do have fans take things to far such as looking up their phone no's and then continously calling their houses etc. that is wrong, it's stalking almost and thats why it bugs me when young girls come into the forums asking if certain people have "GF'S" etc. If they could explain why they do this I would definitley be interested.

// it's stalking almost .... remove the word almost and put expletive of your choosing before the word stalking

At least it hasn't escalated to them breaking in and putting on the persons pj's then sleeping in their bed or anything! But yes the whole call then giggle and ask for the same person over and over gets very tired very fast. (and kinda scary I would say, as where you find phone no's you usually find addresses too)

I heard that the Zed boys get hassled all the time, they have all had to change their mobile numbers because they got out and were harrassed. Not only that, but they have young girlie fans who walk up to them and ask straight out if they can have sex with them. Now that seems to me to be very sad behaviour. Where is your dignity? Appreciate the music, but if you find yourself picking up the phone, you are taking it a step too far.

Oh yeah, and on the original topic, musicians definitely have the right to a private life. Their sex lives (or lack of) make no difference to their music, which was why you were interested in them in the first place.
Of course the exception to this rule could be vocalists, an interest in their sex lives could spring from a desire to understand their songs, and who doesn't write every now and then about their love life?

// which was why you were interested in them in the first place. you know with some of these people i think the music is the last thing on thier minds

Yes absolutely with some artist you need to have an understanding of the whole person to understand the music kd lang, Joan Armatrading, are both women with histories that you can hear in the music

i agree yumyum when you say they might ask those personal questions to really understand a song. is there any artists out there that have stalker stories? i just want to know the lengths people go to.

First of all if your being interviewed by Girlfriend magazine there is something seriously wrong with you. my two cents says that personally I don't give a flying fuck about musicians personal lives or even meeting them. No one should be poking around in other people's lives unless they've been invited. A friend of mine is related to a guy in a certain west auckland band and her reckons these poor boys have a bunch of rabid girls (all underage) following them around to everysingle gig/appearance they make literally foaming out the mouth for them - and no for them its not about the music, but trying to get in their lives cause their out there, total bonified stalkers.
