What's a Band or Song you're ashamed of liking?

Jaelurman's argument reminded me of this... Some one once asked me what a song was that I was ashamed of liking & once I replied he said "It's always a pop song"
So, lets see... Name some bands and/or songs you secretly like but wouldn't normally tell people (wether they be friends or NZMusic members)
And please, don't laugh at what others suggest... we're opening our hearts here!

Forums: The Bar,

One band I really like is Linkin Park & it is shameful to tell you people this, 'cos they are nu-metal (the crappiest metal) & American (ahh!) & liked by masses (inverted Teeney bopper) & kinda poppy (NOOOOOO) & corporate & over played etc, but I like them so much & have liked them since they came out.

well I like Linkin Park but I'm not ashamed.
Umm,
"Let's get the party started" - Pink
the two new Kylie Minogue songs
...

i'm not ashamed either - they fuckin crank. but they are SOOOOO uncool to like haha
DEATH TO MUSIC SNOBS

Yeah.. well you know, I'm not that ashamed, just I thought most ppl here would laugh at that...
Ok, how 'bout if I say I like Limp Bizkit... But the reason I'm ashamed is 'cos of the inverted teeney bopper thing. These 2 examples are for ppl here only.. My friends know I like them

err, I own Significant Other and the Kid Rock album but I got those before the hoopla.
Limp Bizkit have some ok stuff but it is all same ol', same ol'.

//"Let's get the party started" - Pink
yeah, i got into that one...
"can't get you out of my head" killed me to start with, but found i fell for the hook... (i juussst can't...) or was it that dress. doubting it.
my flatmates are also starting to hate nelly furtado... can almost vouch for it too now. but she is still a hottie. looking at them, 'spose they all are.

i totally dispise Pink and Kylie. Pink is a 10c per night Slagbag whore who cant sing worth shit and lacks if any talent and her music drives me to suicide. and Kylie has always been lame. Limp Bizkitt (who i used to like about 5 years ago) are now nothing more than a group of posuers trying to be cool (fred durst is a total wanker) Linkin park are more of a limp biz clone except they are poppy posuers AKA Cock/Jock Rockers. whatever hppened to the good ol days of Long Hair, Power Trios, Lengthy Psychedelic Jams, Drugs and trippy sludge guitar sounds? Music today is if of anything lame. Only the diehard bands such as Slayer, Body Count, Pantera and Napalm death and even some dino yet classic rock by Sabbath and Judas keep pumping life into an otherwise corrupted music world.

Look I'm not a big fan of Limp Bizkit ok? But I think it is funny how people rate the personalities and image over the actual music.

After the Grammy awards I am kinda ashamed of liking U2. How much MORE of a cock can Bono be?

Almost everyone are heralding U2's new album as a return to form but the songs I've heard
are mainly commercial pap, what is the big fuss!?!

i think bono is fully erect now.

wait....i dont get this, just because you don't like linkin park... that doesn't make you a music snob! i dont consider myself a music snob, but i hate that band purely because a. i don't like the music... and b. they are so manufactured (no arguement here, they openly admit to it) and you can see it in the music. the lyrics are so teenage angst, annoying.

Also to whoever said that limp bizkit should not be thought of just as the image - the music is so bad there seems to be nothing else there! they are heavily sponsered, and more than other honest working bands, they rely on an image to seel records.... lets face it; without the image; there's nothing else there.

yeah i agree peaches.
the thing is, many people aren't like you - they hate linkin park because it's supposedly 'cool' to like... so then we have the situation where a growing amount of people dislike a band because it's not cool to like something that's cool; these are the music snobs that i despise!

but to not like their music on purely music terms is sweet. out of interest, when did they say they were 'manufactured'?

Bono Bloody Bono at no logo dot org

i read it in one rolling stone *great information source i know! *rolls eyes**
when they very first first came out i think it was.

I can't remember wether it was them or Jimmy Eat World (i'm fairly sure it was J.E.W) who said something along the lines of "we are manufactured and proud and other bands are idiots for not doing things the way we are. We have done the right thing, and we were smart"
NOt exact wording but very simular. Yeah i'm pretty much 90% sure it was jimmy eat world.
WHAT a joke!

but yeah i agree jimi i hate the sort of music snobs you mean.
Most of the time, they are people who don't understand what they like about music to begin with.

Yeah I agree Stefan. I mean hey U2 are legends, they're great, they deserve respect, but the new album isn't that fantastic and did Walk On REALLY deserve to win Song of the Year? The Edge is cool though.

Going back to what the topic is ACTUALLY about...

Shakira
*sob*

gone by n'sync, i'd like anyone to beat that one...... pure pop. :(

Okay... I admit it... I like that song too.

Awww, it's so shameful :( I dunno Gone, haven't heard it, but I AM SOOOO GOD-DAMN ASHAMED, I liked a song by Nsynce... It's Gonna Be You.. I think that was it, I can't quite remember. It had the worst video tho, them being dolls in a toy store. Ohhh, I'm soooo embarrassed!

can't beat that.

I like the 'Venga Boys'

Since I'm purging myself I will add 'S-club 7's "don't stop"

So did I *sob*
I even had one of their albums...

Once again....
So did I *sob*
I even had one of their albums...
& I love their TV Show (Not for the music, It's pretty funny)

oooOOoo... "don't stop", i like that song too.

also i like "don't want you back" by the backstreet boys. its not a single though. its off the millennium album, which i own. *shame*

...but hey, pop music has its place. its upbeat and cheers me up when i've had a bad day, or have been listening to too much nine inch nails. sometimes its just good to listen to something that isnt very deep and meaningful, and doesnt require alot of thought / attention.

i have 31 hanson cds. *crawls into a corner and dies*

31?!? Did they even have 31 CDs? I'm hoping you're being sarcastic... Don't tell me you have 31 copies of the same CD or something

31 cds, including albums, singles, special edition singles, promo cds, electronic press kits, and different versions of singles from other countries etc etc etc.

no joke.

Atleast you will never be short of coffee cup coasters... Joke... sorry... I'll just crawl back to cleaning my 'venga boys' cd's now

haha, too true. its not that i even like them anymore... its just that i can't bring myself to get rid of their cds for some reason. *clings to memories of being 14*

It's hard to throw out CDs.. It's like you paid money for them so you can't waste 'em. & can't sell them 'cos 1)Cash converters pays poorly for CDs 2) Who the hell would buy them anyway?!?

im sure if i had sold them a couple of years ago to some obsessive freaky-deaky teenybopper, i may have gotten some money for them. but who likes hanson these days?

maybe i could make a sculpture.

// 31 hanson cds

you are a bonafide legend. shiat. any bootlegs? I have 4 Hanson "school book stickers"..you know with name and subject fields. And also 4 hanson postcards...you want em? I was never a fan unfortunately, we were just giving them away at the record store and i grabbed a pile.

hahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahah :-D oh dear, the funniest thing i have heard all year...

you poor poor poor poor thing!

well as long as you don't like them now ;-)

...hm...I still got the New Kids on the Block cd...I play it when I'm luxing my house...only when I'm luxing...and Megadeth...I play it secretly when no-one's home...some people just don't understand. I love all sorts of music. If it makes my head sway from side 2 side or bob up and down then I like it. So I got a few Megadeth albums hidden in my drawers...and ah,(cough)Hear'Say(cough). yea thats me done

Hehe, sometimes I listen to the Lion King soundtrack, on headphones, when no-ones home. I was too young for NKOTB luckily.

hey i still have my NKOTB tour cd, and i went to their concert when they played in auckland AGES ago :)

i also have the lion king soundtrack. i used to be so obsessed with that movie. i had the soundtrack on tape and listened to it so much that my tape crapped out and my mum got me a new one for xmas. ahhh the memories....

*walks down memory lane*

err we have a NKOTB CD floating around somewhere with Milli Vanilli.
We had the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtrack on tape and it crapped out so we got it on CD.

hmmm, everyone seems to have the secret NKOTB cd. i have an old concert of theirs on video tape. sometimes i whip it out at parties. its pretty amusing.... they even do a bum dance.

"Stop!.... bootie time"

teeehheee!! .....*gulp* wait. i should really not be enjoying that, should i?

I don't think I've had any tapes that have crapped out... I wasn't very interested in music til I was @ high school.
But I had many VIDEO tapes I over watched & ruined... Like The Land Before Time (Awww, I loved that, first movie I saw in a cinema when I was about 4 or 5) & Footrot Flats, A dogs Tail/Tale. Hehehe, Dave Dobbyn... Does that count as a tape I'm ashamed of?? Crapped out Footrot Flats w/ Dave Dobbyn? When I was little I liked Slice Of Heaven on F.F.

The Land Before Time was the coolest. My little sister owns all 7 (?) tapes.. its funny to watch them all (not that i do this..)

I wasnt really around in the NKOTB era either, but i did have the lion king soundtrack.. i used to love the songs from The Sound Of Music too..

//When I was little I liked Slice Of Heaven on F.F.
i watched that movie when i was really young for the first time, and when slice of heaven came on i bawled my eyes out - very weird considering it's a positive song... to this day i find it incredibly sad, how strange is that

Yeah.. The first Land Before Time ruled! But the next 6 or whatever are pretty crap & have lame kiddie songs & themes..
Lol, I still like The Sound Of Music & it's songs...*blushes* All so funny, how the kids wear curtains & Maria is a smartass, asking captain what his whistle signal is...
But Me First & The Gimmie Gimmies do the better version of My Favourite Things (I simply remember my favourite things, & then I don't feeeeeeel.... So fucking baaaaaad!"

heheh, "how do you solve a problem like maria..."

i love the original land before time. i used to cry so hard when little foot chases his own shadow because he thinks its his mother... *sob*. oh and the original neverending story! that movie rules. atreyu is a babe. i know hes like... all of 12... but.... uh.......... yeah.... *blushes* i love falcore too. the neverending story 2 and 3 suck though. jonathan brandis and jason james ritcher could never compete with the original atreyu.

hmph!

Yeah, I'd cry when Little Foot's Mother died & when Mufusa died in the Lion King.
& I loved The Neverending Story 1, I'd watch it with my cousin... So fun :)
& yes, the sequels were hell lame
I also liked Free Willy, & hated the 2nd & 3rd one... So true that sequels suck, especially in childrens films;)

On crapped out tapes, I remembered one.... It's NZ too, so relevant... Constable Keith & Sniff stuff... Hehehe, Taped off the radio & then crapped thru overlistening!

slice of heaven is played at the end of the move mat it makes you sad because it ment a great movie was over?

I have a copy of Constable Keith & Sniff
I use it at work all the time and little kiwi kids still love it. I think it came from a travel / holiday pack give away from a petrol station about 7 or 8 years back.

eek! i know!! when little foots mum dies its so sad!! Oh and did anyone else love that other movie with the chick from the sound of music, i *think* it was called A Very Modern Milly? Something like that.. and they had to dance in the elevator to get it going.. ahh classy movie that was. Ahh the never ending story.. havent watched that in a while.. how many are there now? I grew up watching the mighty ducks.. over and over and over...

Tho.. the band i have to admit liking would be Steps *cringe* I was over in the UK when they were huge and i was sucked in. Thats my excuse. Dont mock me, at least i have one. But i only like their older stuff.. *hides*

I to, was at the NKOTB concert, I had a big crush on Jordan and used to pretend he was my boyfriend. I am sooooo cool.
