Since relocating from Australia to London with his band Betchadupa in 2005, Liam Finn has been very busy indeed.
And the heir apparent to the Finn family’s musical talent has just put the finishing touches on his solo album "I'll Be Lightning" which is set to be released in July this year.
Liam has recently given live audiences in London a bit of a thrill by singing, playing guitar lines, bass lines and the drums onstage at his solo gigs, with only a looping effects pedal for company and has also been on the road in the US opening for the reformed Crowded House, joining them on stage at the famous Coachella festival.
Liam performs a unique and exciting solo set highlighting his brand new material
- Venue: Kings Arms Tavern, 59 France Street, Auckland.

well heck that's gotta beat a real band anyday
99 times out of a hundred when i see solo artists
i feel sorry for them, rooting for someone to get on stage and give this poor mofo some accompaniment
that betchadupa drummer is great
for me
one of the best lessons from neil finn's career was his media savvy re marketablity of collective units
in the latter stages of split enz, we saw tim finn slowly weening himself out of the fold
eventually he left, had a hit with fraction too much friction and then fucked off
arguably never to make the same musical impact again (arguably)
so neil was left holding the baby
which he put to sleep in a compassionate timely manner
and at that crossroads, or juncture (as they say on my street)
neil didn't release a solo album
he formed a 'crowded house'
and found bigger fame
possibly realising that playing that kind of music, and with that kind of level of charisma (no offence intended)
the music was far more palatable, when performed by a group
a team
people love teams
especially real friend style teams
people aren't so blown away by tape loops and gadgetry unless you become the loops and gadgetry guy
but being the play all the instruments guy, and the loops and gadgetry guy
all at the same time
just reeks of 'got no mates'
still,
go crowded house
go betchadupa
