nah jimi, the chatrooms we were secretly (ish) testing last night are nothing to do with this post. i removed the link to the chatrooms after we finished but for some buggy reason it attached itself to the very next topic (this one) so all in all a big coincidence.

anorexia - from what I've gathered from friends who've been there...
lonely, dispossessed, nothing much to strain up against in this world - female role-models are fairly flimsy - so perhaps they starve themselves until they are physically sick... to match their spiritual sickness... for some affirmation of their own mortality perhaps? (none of this is conscious - and I'm not condoning it or damning it!) and I got a feeling it's some kind of way of getting power back over your destiny... which is unfortunate - cos the further you go into anorexia the more of an overwhelming habit it must become... I definately don't think it's tied up in vanity or cosmopolitan or vogue supermodel lookalike pressures...
and it must be a hell of a hard thing to break out of - cos isn't the normal world pretty bland and overrated? and an oppressive state of starvation could actually be how we were as a human race struggling and surviving back in the cave-days - a primal state of being - bare forked animals

I agree, it's generally males who are bigots. But also mostly older people, 'cos as part of the younger generation, I've been taught not to discriminate against people who are different, like they all did when they were young.

Um... I'd call them "credible". If I had a friend who was Xian, then he/she would actually believe that I (as an atheist) was going to hell when I died. And as a consequence, suffer an eternity of absolute agony. If he was truly my friend and cared about me, I'd expect Friend to try & convert me, because I'd expect Friend wouldn't want me to suffer so much pain for so long (which he actually believes I will). Since Friend does not, I conclude that Friend doesn't ACTUALLY believe it will happen.
Christians who actually read the Bible, don't curse, abstain from sex before marriage, hate homos, go to church, fund missionaries to go to Africa, and spend their time trying to convert heathens are some of the lamest people on Earth. But I actually take their faith seriously.
As for everyone else, I suspect they just need to have a good think and they'll snap out of it...

true. then i thought, what about those door knockers that come round? they arent my friends!
but the fact that they would care so much to come to my door, without knowing the slightest thing about me, actually makes them more credible in terms of their beliefs.... damn for my religion bashing side.

then i thought of the ones that actually refuse to believe that you don't want their help. they push their way into your house. this could be seen as ultimate compassion - they are forcing their way inside someones house, risking anger and hostility, to help save you from an eternal hell.
but i draw the line. i think that once a religious person ignores a statement that the atheist is not interested, and continues trying to convince the homeowner of a religion's merits, and forces their way into someone's house - this is a basic breach of human rights and also underlines the fallibility of religion...... the unwillingness to let others have different points of view.
