I have been on a major nostalgia trip while play music tag, and thinking about live gigs I've been to.
so if we can have topics like best song ever, today was the day when
why not this topic
so who was the first band you ever saw live/ where / when time to rave or rank

umm from memory, Tool, Wellington Town Hall can't remember which year it was, bloody good time till someone pissed Maynard off, I think we were lucky to even get an encore, which he performed with his back to the crowd. I remember at one stage two eggheads at the line in Aenema, "fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memory" start shaking their heads, dumb asses.

the rumour was someone threw a bottle and it hit Maynard, I think someone rang up Talk (Wellington Talk, the good one back in the day) and admitted to it, not sure if they were joking around or not though. Rumour also is that is why they skipped Wellington recently.

Well, not a band as such, but the first artist I ever saw live was none other than Paul Simon. I was about 10 at the time, and I still remember it as being a great show. I've been a life-long fan of Simon's work - both with Garfunkel and alone.
The first actual band I saw live were the Smashing Pumpkins about five years ago at the SuperTop.

I guess technically my first gig was Olly Olsen at Ozbo? day when I was a cub. It was at Fraser Park out in the hut and I had to get off the blow up castle early to get in to hear Olly belt out rocking tunes like the song about Fangface the Crimefighting werewolf.
My first real gig would have been the Exponents in Dunedin many years later.

My dad dragged me & my bro along to the 'Little River Band' at the Bowl of Brooklands when I was about 6. Looking back, I'm surprised my dad took me to the concert, I was one of those kids with boundless energy who'd run up and down the movie aisle.... I can't really remember if he spent the night chasing me or not.
