Some interesting discussions on the state of the Music Industry in NZ

Hi- just thought you should know about these discussions that have been playing through NZ Music Month on Radio NZ National that you can now listen to at your leisure:

NZ Music State Of Play: Major Labels
Trevor Reekie talks with Sony BMG MD Mike Bradshaw, Public Address web blog curator Russell Brown and entertainment lawyer and founder of legal download site Amplifier Chris Hocquard about the changes in the music biz since this time last year (May 2006), and how the industry is having to bob and weave with the developing digital environment.

NZ Music State Of Play 2: The Indies
State of Play discusses the Independent music sector in New Zealand. Music reporter Trevor Reekie is joined by guests Bernie Griffin of distribution company Global Routes, Mark Kneebone, founder of Tardus Records as well as chairperson of Independent Music NZ, and Lisa Paris of independent promotions service The Label.

NZ Music State Of Play 3: Taking It Overseas
Trevor Reekie takes a look at New Zealand musicians working against scale and distance to export our sounds overseas. This discussion features Mu from Fat Freddy’s Drop, Paul McKessar of CRS Management, and Michelle Bakker, Greg Johnson's manager in Los Angeles for the past 5 years.

Forums: NZ Music,

Thanks for the links. The series was quite interesting. Do you know if there will be any further episodes?

yep, there's one more coming this saturday, 4.10pm on 101fm (or later, on the web.) The last one is Trevor speaking to music critic Graham Reid, Chris Knox, Mike Chunn and singer songwriter Dianne Swann about the best ways for young players to steer clear of music industry traps.

traps like when the owner of the label misprints the cover of the release putting the songs in the wrong order, then omits one track from the release?

sure trevor reekie has 1st hand experience
please tell me he's not getting paid?
the new zealand marijuana industry is healthy enough already

traps like not worshiping at the altar of low-fi Flying Nun?
I had to laugh when I saw the Panel of Industry experts.
bit surprised neither Sir Howard or Hayley's Mum not there.

I'd nominate our very own Rdor, he'd do a great job of telling people what not to do.
What say you?

yeah for sure, rdor's the man

I get the feeling I'm missing the point of an in-joke or something. Did Reekie mess up someone's release? He used to be the man at Pagan Records, right? What happened (if you don't mind my asking)?

reekie was so stoned, that not only did he get the song order wrong on the package, he ommited a track.

If anyones interested theres been some quite good discussion on Public Address (the blog of Russell Brown, and a number of others including Graham Reid) about associated topics.

Well worth a read if you have the time...

Theres a couple of other good threads too but I don't have the time to dig them up.

more to the point,
how about holding just one discussion
the only one that matters
"how to write a good song"

seems like it'd be worth focusing on for about 5 years until there's actually something there to export

if 6 was 9

when all the hippies cut off all their hair...

can anyone remember where the thread on NZ Music Album Reviews is?
It would help me greatly if I could reference this please.
