sweden? gimmie a break. sweden takes such good care (?) of their people that no one can do things for themselves anymore. the kids get so well fed and looked after at school (after school programs etc) that the parents dont even think they have to do anything anymore.
when i was in sweden i saw so many kids wandering around the streets by themselves or with other kids, nothing to do, just waiting to go home cos their parents tell them not to come back until its dark!! my dad had a big problem with it (he lives there) because all the kids used to come over in the evenings and want to hang out there, cos they were the only parents on the block who let their kids home after school.

Your employer gains from you being able to take holidays as paid leave as it places a defined cap on the amount of time away from work that you are able to take - otherwise people would take as much Leave Without Pay as they were comfortable with and that would impact on productivity to a greater extent.
The advantages of having time off from work have been presented in a number of publications - and they usually point to a minimisation of the decreases of efficiency which you see in any worker who has been in their role for a fair amount of time.
The employers gain from being able to restrain the amount of time that you can take off work - and having the ongoing commitment that you are still being paid for your time. The employee gains from having time off work and still being paid.

An opinion: The minimum wage actually hurts low income earners by reducing the the ability of business to employ more people, increasing the cost of goods and services and fooling the lowly paid that they can support a family from semi or unskilled work. In other words, get rid of it and let the market set wages and conditions.

well I agree with a maximum wage for those running state owned enterprises. Like it or not no progress in civilization has been made through socialism. Socialism stunts creativity and initiative, and it does this by removing one of the central motivations of human nature, doing well for yourself and your family.
