I liked Boris Yeltsin,

Shame he's gone ! he seemed to know what a good time was, a bottle of Vodka and a dance :-) Hope this link works !!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA-lal2MUKw

Forums: The Bar,

perhaps the biggest criminal of all time.
Thief supreme...I like how the Western Media describe "bringing freedom to Russia"
where is Abramovich living again?

Perhaps, but I'm sure we could think of a few more, bigger criminals if we tried, the worlds full of them, past and present. As for Abramovich, he has the freedom to live where he likes, just like all those other billionaires / millionaires ( and me ) from other countries who live here. Russia's not a safe place, hasn't been for generations from what I know of the country, I think anyone, Boris included had a huge job on their hands in trying to bring change to a country, one who's general populace are for the most part " poor peasants " for want of another phrase. They're open to corruption and black market forces it's part of the fabric of the society they grew up in, that kind of life style doesn't change over night because political curcumstances change over night. The problem maybe with Russia was that there were people waiting in the wings to capitalise on capitalism and took the opportunity to do so, at the expense of the nation, they exploited it. Enough babble from me.

no babble, your on it.
You miss the point on the breadth of Yeltsin's crimes...simply put one of the richest nations was completely gutted for the benefit of a tiny few.Abramovich, Berz etal hide in London 'cos they know what Putin will do to them.
For this Putin is the "undemocratic" one by the way.
People are generally open to "black market and corruption" when
a/ they aint got shit to lose
b/ it's the best foreseeable option
c/ some criminal has the $ to pay them off...The Corrupter.

I think I understand about "sudden change" but Yeltsin is simply put a Fraudster/Gangster on a scale probably beyond comprehension. If we think the treacherous dogs of our own nation:
Basset, Douglas, Goff, Prebble, Caygill, Bolger, Richardson, Shipley and there rackerteering masquerading as "sound fiscal process" the calamitous and ongoing poverty these dirty scumbags inflicted is till only a shadow of Yeltsin's collusion.Russian Society will not be safe until the general populace (just like anywhere else) know there is Justice as a tenant of Society, not same vauge election bribe wheeled out you know when.

How big is Yukos? I read that it's 18% of all Europe's supply? If you add in the Natural Gas syndicate it's even worse...remember the Ukraine "crisis".

moan.groan,etc.

Agree with A,B & C above, with very little or no other real opitions available seems to be the only way to get along. Yeltsin was only one man, as your example above points out, strip away the covers and you see it takes alot more bed fellows / fellowettes than one to screw over a country. Politicians are in many ways no better than elected criminals in alot of cases, no better .. maybe even worse .. than the non elected thugs and gangsters that roam the streets or big business of this world. At the top of the tree, above the common people's problems, It's getting so you cant' tell political opinion from big business opinion, and business opinion from criminal opinion, there's always been dark and murky carry on's in order to make the most capital and therefore be the most wealthy country and therefore the most powerful country on earth. It looks like the Russian flow chart of the above has broken down before it even got a chance to establish links with in it's self, hence governments got no real control over business, business has no control over government and no one has control over the criminals. I think I'm talking either in tongues of in circles of no scense, still on another note, it's lunch in half an hour :-) and I'm going to post this against my better judgement.
