The video gave me a few laughs but the song is pretty damn annoying. In fact I was sorta horrified to find that I enjoyed the original more than I expected, just because in contrast to Alanis's effort it's so much more daft... musically it's basically Peaches (even down to the horrific innuendo, really) ... just with a different artist story / intentions... maybe?
There's a weird parasitic relationship between bona fide pop hits and "real" songwriters getting attention through slagging those hits off... always a bit weird I reckon. When was the last time Alanis caught anyone's attention before this? Not that I'm thinking too much about something that doesn't deserve much thought, of course. ;)

Some of the comments on youtube are saying stuff to the effect that Alanis is pointing out the vacuousness of the original song, the objectification of women in the vid, etc... but that just seems like if someone took the piss out of the lyrics of something by Buck's Fizz or Boney M back in the day. What's the point? What does it change? Makes the detractors feel better? Certainly doesn't impact on the operation of the industry, nor the success of those being parodied. I guess if it's just honest laughs at the level of "this would be pretty silly" then that's cool...
