WTF.Hope not.BTW.That would be terrible.IMO.
I dunno, I reckon they'll get someone from abroad....
They have a lot of connections so why settle for some second rate NZ drummer
Well he's hardly a mind blowing drummer.
Of all the drummers in the world, why would Crowded House settle for an average drummer just because he is from NZ.
I dunno, when I was jamming with Neil and Riki, there def seemed to be a synergy between the brothers that they both obviously dug, given Riki's drumming on his new album. We'll just have to agree to dis-agree in regards to Riki's merits or not however in my opinion, I don't think it'll be Riki as well, not due to any percieved lack of skill but for other reasons.
Paul Hester was a brilliant drummer but his subtleties often went unnoticed amidst some powerful songwriting - Crowded House have always had a very laid back style that he suited exactly. I'm sure most people would not rate Paul as being in their top 10 list of amazing drummers though due to his low profile.
Riki Gooch absolutely has the ability - not sure where the second rate nz drummer bit comes from. I'm sure the decision will be made on a number of factors, not the least of which will be feel and chemistry. Of which I'm sure Riki has in spades.
This article doesn't say anything about Hart playing drums. I think it's pretty well known he's the second guitarist/keyboardist they had at the end anyway...
I think the line "we are currently auditioning to find someone special to take that role" refers to the drummer.
Here's the full quote from another source, including an amendment at the bottom:
"It feels right to us that the band should re-emerge at this time and, together with [guitarist/pianist] Mark Hart, we look forward to reconnecting with the audience that we established and for whom we still hold a deep respect," Finn said in a press release. "We aim to make the upcoming shows and the new music every bit as vital and spirited as what has come before."
Finn also said the band is actively searching for a new drummer.
Sloppy journalism by the Herald? Surely you jest.....???
Anyway, this thread should lead to another thread - which disbanded band would you most like to see reform, put out an album, and tour?
Riki is TOO good for crowded house.... don't get me wrong CH were great, its just that riki is more the awesomisor.
Apparently they considered Joey Waronker too...
the big issue has to be finding a great rock drummer who can also play subtly fast and light brush feels on the snare. they could kill jeff tweedy and steal Glenn Kotche.
hello,Riki Gooch here to clear up a few things...1st of all thanks for your vote of confidence in me for the role of the new crowdies drummer, thanks to gollem for classing me 2nd rate...its healthy to be reminded.Nick and Neil are great to play with and we had fun doing the album last year..to clarify my stance on the posistion,i will not be playing with neil or nick as i am commited to my new family, album projects etc...as much as i love those guys,my heart is not in that sort of music.Im from another school of thought and nick,Neil understand that.cheers
