Was pleased to see FFD got DMZ to do a remix... I think dubstep's pretty fucking boring, but it makes sense to tap into the creme da la creme of the London underground, and those dudes are the undisputed reigning champs in those circles.

Whooo hoo, lets all get excited because some US' has beens' have done a cover of Fat Freddy's Plop. I'm doing a cartwheel right now. The sooner that people see the music of FFD for the lame boring cod bollocks it is the better I say.....makes 80s NZ reggae like Herbs seem postively heavyweight in comparison. How about a DMZ remix of 'French Letter'? Selectah! Boh! Rewind!
Oh and Jet, if you are bored with dubstep, check out Bass Clef 'What Has Been Twisted Will Never Straighten', Skream 'Check It' (feat. Warrior Queen) and the new Benga album. You might find some joy in here, but sadly it's not as good as Bone, Thugs and Rhapsody....

Nobody remembers the originators. Everyone is too busy trying to come up with that new sound.
SuperCollider were sadly ignored. Massivly Spastic breaks, Enormous Bass and Mutant R&B Vocals.

Super_Collider are fantastic, but I don't really hear any connection between them and dubstep. Jamie Lidell's background is in techno and funk, Cristian Vogel's in techno and electro-acoustic music.
Heard that Skream album at 4am when I was really drunk and enjoyed it quite a lot, but at least partly because it wasn't all dubstep. I did use to like first-gen stuff, e.g. Dub War's Murderous Style is amazing and some El-B business is also fantastic. But that was because I could hear the 2-step in the beats, which made it heaps more fun.
Had thought about the Scorn thing too... also Seefeel's last album... but that totally doesn't apply to the older stuff, which was all clearly about 140 bpm and had the shuffle beats and heaps of house influence mixed with the darkness.

I think Head On has had an influence over 2Step Grime and Dubstep for sure. It's not as straight forward but I think the elements are there.

Amen to that, Supercollider were fucking awesome. When 'Head On' came out it sounded like nothing else, apart from, erm, Prince had he had superphat production. Sadly it's a bloody hard album to find these days and criminally ignored. No wonder Jamie Liddell sounds so fucked up these days. He must be gutted.
Seefeel though is an interesting touchstone...their first album is incredible, 'More Like Space' is a mind blowing tune and their album 'Succour' is an essential purchase..Also I think dubstep more than owes a lot to Richard D. James and his Polygon Window tune 'Quoth'. Interesting to see James' label Rephlex is at the forefront of dubstep in 2007.
But what's it got to do with NZ Music and FFD? Not much, dude. Aphex Twin remix of FFD must be on the cards though. He he.....

I would rather hear a Merzbow remix. Then I could probably tolerate FFD

OK, to talk about NZ music on this topic, anyone heard much of Hell Science Department, Christchurch dubstep producers? They've got MP3's for sale on juno and other such spots.
One of the guys (self-admittedly more of the manager / polisher than producer) is a hell of a forum slut.
