What better place than " The Bar " for a cigar

topic, It's my new years fixation, and not it's not something I developed after growing a beard, I got kinda into cigars a few years ago. I've never smoked, but always said if I did, it would be cigars. So a few years ago at a party a mate of mine handed me one, I didn't inhale .. as Bill Clinton would say .. so didn't turn green, get dizzy, fall off my chair or get sick, so flush with success with my first cigar, decided it was indeed something I could handle. I only really smoke one or two every two or so months, out with mates some of whom smoke also. It's nice to sit around after a meal, or over a drink just puffing away talking crap :-) .. The website below should anyone be interested is one I stumbled on over Christmas .. boredom plus the internet means I'm now the proud owner of a Humidor .. which holds 120 cigars ... at the rate I smoke, once filled it's a lifetime supply ! The prices are great, mine cost £86 or $169 US with shipping that came up to £129 about $245 US. worth a look maybe. Anyone else here smoke cigars ?

Hey man-

You know cigars taste much better when you have had a few bottles of red from that little french place in Soho... I remember a few days later, tracking the scent down to a half-smoked cigar I must've stashed in my coat pocket for safe keeping. It wasn't the same, man- I needed the bar, the atmosphere, the conversation, presence of alcohol in my bloodstream clouding my better judgement...

I've been meaning to give you a catch-up phonecall one NZ evening/UK morning this week. When are you at the desk?

I'm at the desk now mate, and here for the next 11 hours .. it'll be good to catch up .. and yeah I agree a cigar is a location / company thing for me, right place right company .. :-)

I keep unsmoked cigars that I've been given handy for when I run out of money and smokes.. one white owl and a pair of scissors.. 10 minutes later you've got yourself enough tobacky to keep you going for at least 12 more cigarettes.

(sorry, it's because I'm from Lower Hutt)

ahhh ... yes ... lower hutt .... says it all really :-)))

love a good cigar, wainui. Usually a cigarillo as opposed to a big old stogie though!

Gidday Jackie, I'm no expert, so don't really know a good cigar as such, but a good cigar .. and I mean stogie :-) is quiet satisfy .. being my new fixation, I found out yesterday about EMS which is British market selection .. website below has explanation.

the should, I'm sure you know be satisfying ... :-) it's 0823 and I haven't even had a drink yet .. :-)

Bloody hell, just re-read the above post .. "the" should be "that" .. going for that drink now ...

Hmmm... I heard that you're not allowed to smoke in bars in NZ anymore. Is it still OK to talk about smoking in a virtual bar if it's a NZ site? ;-)

Sorry for the slow reply .. just off the phone to Foetus, having a catch up ... yeah, good point, maybe the NZ cyber police will come along and delete our posts ... :-) .. no smoke with out fire I guess ...

that raises another point. I'm a non smoker, so I'm quite happy that there is no smoking in bars, well not bothered by the law at least. But without out specific garden bar areas, theres also no drinking outside of bars (in hamilton theres a ban on the street anyway). Case in point; we were drinking in a a bar which had some chairs and tables set up on the footpath, finding that the music was a little loud (something about pop rock being played loud just punishes the airs for some reason), we decided to go sit outside with the smokers... sorry, can't drink ootside...

makes being a smoker tough? if you can't drink in front of the bar you like, then you can't enjoy a drink and a smoke while on an evening out... I don't know, just a point.

Well, I've recently given up smoking, but yeah. A cigar or (even better) a pipe can really hit the spot. Especially when you make time to actually smoke the thing. They're not like cigarettes where you smoke them "en passant" so to speak, without even realizing it. You've got to make a time to smoke a cigar.

Personally, I prefer those bitter Tuscan cigars that look like they were rolled by cavemen but the Cuban ones are nice too.
