The return of the NZM mixtape swap

So it's a new year and therefore it's time for some new music. Recently I had the pleasure of driving through my favourite tunnel under the Wellington airport just as the climax of a Mogwai song kicked in on one of the NZM mix CDs that I received (or rather, one of the ones that Lisa Fur received, as my copy of it was blank, White Rhino, you're a bad burner), and holy fuck, it was just the most awesome auralgasm ever. So yes, back to the point, let's swap mix tapes again!

But to make things much much much easier on myself, this is the way we're going to do it.
1. Everyone who participates will email me their address, and I will pass that address on to another person chosen at random.
2. Each person only makes one copy of their mix CD and sends it directly to another person in the swap.
3. CDs must be of the very finest quality, compiled to a theme of your choosing, and preferably featuring art work and maybe even notes.
4. If you're going to participate in this, and I'd love you to, you need to pledge that you will have your CD in the mail by the end of next week. No slacking off, no excuses, no need for me to hassle you.

Okay? Awesome. Any questions? If you want to take part, and you really should, send me your address to hubris.co.nz by the end of Friday. Radsville.

Forums: NZ Music,

Cool as. Nice working with you, BTW ;-)

Yeah, it's nice to know that fellow NZMers can be gainfully employed!

But doesn't that mean we have to use....shudder...Analog Posting...eeek!

Think I'll dip out of this one Joanna .. I really don't have anything new ... Foetus, Joanna's a lovely woman isn't she.

//But doesn't that mean we have to use....shudder...Analog Posting...eeek!

Analog is /m/! Plus it means that you'll be able to stalk an NZMer of your very own knowing their address. Of course, since the last mixtape swap, I'm stalking a dozen myself. In fact, I'm in Rdor's garden right now.

Wanui - chur!

It's like some kind of secret handshake we have, or something- it was funny watching the penny drop though, I recognised Jo first...
'I know you from somewhere?'
'Yeah, I think it's via the web, on NZM.com'
'Oh, right... OH, RIGHT!'

Everyone I meet is via Heather. Heather, you haven't introduced me to anyone in a long time, what's up with that?

I always meet everyone through Heather. Heather, you haven't introduced me to anyone new lately - what's up with that?

She's probably met alot of people Joanna, it's just that after she has kicked ten bells of s*"t outta them at the fight club, they don't normally ... or are not capable of ... meeting anyone else :-))) apart from a doctor of some sort maybe .. :)) you'll just be meeting alot of very bandaged up mummy looking people .... :) .. If your reading this Heather .. Ma'am .. bowing backing out of the room .. trying to avoid a swift kick up the ass, and sore nose .. only joking .. phew !

Oh. OH I AM SO THERE. And I'm not there on a motorcycle trying to be a rebel either............

I bought Courtney Love's book, but I haven't read it yet. I'm just gutted I found out too late that she was doing a signing while I was in San Fran.

Are we allowed to include any Bone Thugs and Harmony tunes on our mixtapes?

If it fits the theme, then sure!

Is it too late for me to play? Am I too far away?

No you're fine to play - email me your address and I'll send you your assignment.

Sent!

ummm this sounds spanky but...is this illegal in any way?

Okay, I've sent everyone except for Velocity their assigned receivee now, so please be good, make your CDs and don't let the team down. Wahoo!

Ooooh, too late to join in?

What's the theme?
Sorry I AM a bad burner.

Also a bad reader - "compiled to a theme of your choosing". I'm making mine on magical movie music moments.

gutted.

missed out, stink....

I hope you all have your tapes in the mail by now, or I'm going to hunt you down and give you a smacked bottom!

sending mine tomorrow

I sent mine yesterday, so in 7-10 business days, a certain Wellingtonian should expect a package from the middle of America.

Should I be expecting one from the same person I sent one to, or is it more random than that?

it's more random than that. ARE YOU EXCITED????

Now seriously, who has sent their CDs yet? Anyone got theirs yet? Is it good?

I KNOW WHERE ALL YOU LIVE! I WILL COME AFTER YOU!

(PS - I just sent mine today, Velocity. Sorry for the terrible delay. I have no real excuse. Except you know, insanity)

4. If you're going to participate in this, and I'd love you to, you need to pledge that you will have your CD in the mail by the end of next week. No slacking off, no excuses, no need for me to hassle you.
ahem...

Do as I say, not as I do. Duh.

:curtsey:

Velocity if its of any recompense to you, I have not yet sent Joanna's CD. I feel bad, but better knowing she is almost as useless as I.

//I feel bad, but better knowing she is almost as useless as I.

Yeah that's true, the mixtape swap you organised was pretty sweet and like, totally happened!

//I just sent mine today, Velocity. Sorry for the terrible delay.

I'd just like you to know, I've cried every time I've checked the mail in the past week and a half. Maybe soon I can stop crying.

Has mine arrived yet? It should have by now. I actually sent mine on time.

Ok ok I am more useless than you. Significantly. Happy?

I was excited to see a courier parcel in my box only to find it was the one I sent, with a note across the front saying "not known at this address."
It's been sitting on my table for a week now, cos I'm hardly home..

Sorry I've been slack lettin ya know.

These are the liner notes for the CD I made (look away if you haven't got it yet, Velocity!). If you can guess all the songs, you get a prize.

In movies from the eighties, Phoebe Cates struts across the patio unleashing her very nice breasts from her bikini, Molly Ringwald hooks up with the hott boy instead of the creepy geek, thank god) the Goonies never say die as they ride their bikes down the hill and a pre-vampire Jason Patric beds a girl in an abandoned hotel while a little boy sleeps on the bed near them.

In Cameron Crowe movies, John Cusack holds a ghetto blaster up under a window making every girl fall in love with him, Kyra Sedgewick promises "we will always go dancing!" and Kate Hudson skates around an empty auditorium on pieces of rubbish. And something happens with Sigur Ros playing in the background, but who actually paid attention to Vanilla Sky? It was supposed to be The Cars completing this quartet, since he wrote the screenplay, but I got confused.

In New Zealand films, Joel Toelbeck lies dying in the grass while a little girl searches nearby for her goat named Crunchie, things start to go bad for Willa O'Neill and her flatmates who discovered all that pot in their basement, a thirteen year old learns a lesson she didn't deserve and rain falls down on a funeral and everyone wonders who the murderer is.

In some of my favourite films, Juliette Lewis kicks the shit out of some stupid rednecks, Leonardo smokes a cigarette all dreamy-like, Lindsay Lohan discovers that Halloween is really just an excuse for girls to dress as slutty as possible, and Natalie Portman weeps in a phonebooth and breaks my heart.

//John Cusack holds a ghetto blaster up under a window making every girl fall in love with him

Honestly, to this day I still have a big girly crush on John Cusack because of that. Well, that and "Better Off Dead". Excellent CD, Joanna. Well worth the wait.

Hurrah, I'm so pleased. Anyone else get their CDs yet?

This sounds like it was fun. Surely you must have all got your cds by now?!?!

//his sounds like it was fun. Surely you must have all got your cds by now?!?!
