Hi, I’m Geoff Workman and I’m an American record producer. Can I say firstly how much I love New Zealand – my wife and I visited in the early nineties and had a marvelous time - in fact we had intended to spend most of out time in Australia, but changed our plans to see more of New Zealand, especially the incredible South Island.
I discovered this NZ Music forum on a completely unrelated google search, and to my disbelief, found a recent and incredible post by producer Peter Collins. I was astounded that Peter would; a. Post his topic in such and insulting manner, b. Blow his own trumpet so hard without even referencing his discography.
The fact is, within the American recording and related audio industries, Peter Collins is a seen as a kind of bad smell. Over the years his production record is at best, patchy.
Now, I wouldn’t be mentioning this at all had I not chanced upon his ridiculous post, but his post is reminiscent of the kind of behavior the industry has come to expect from Peter Collins, and I’m still astounded that his nastiness has spread all the way to this beautiful part of the world.
In case you’re wondering, my music production work has been pretty broad and some of the pop music I’ve produced has been successful: The Cars, Queen, Motley Crew, Quiet Riot, Journey.
I would just love to come and work on some music in New Zealand sometime in the future – and although I’m not too familiar with current New Zealand music, I’m certain that NZ music production is just like everywhere else in the world – good and bad. Not to mention that New Zealand's population is roughly the same as where I live in Miami (2 million)?
All the best,
Geoff Workman.

It's all about definitions. The "South Florida Metropolitan Area" (Miama, Palm Beach and some place I've never heard of; oh wait, I see that Broward sort of equals Fort Laurderdale) is 5 million. Maybe it's like Auckland that way?

Hey, I kind of respect Journey. Sure, there have been a few times in the past when in conversation I've been 'too cool for Journey' although their song "Only the Young" from the Vision Quest soundtrack is absolutely great. Also their guitar player has released some solo stuff with a sort of new-agey keyboard-Vangelis thing going on that I liked.
Are you interested in doing local acts if they sent you an entertaining demo and could work with you in some context?

I'm sorry to disappoint you but I'm actually the fake Geoff Workman (I"m also the fake Peter Collins).
You can tell I'm fake by my ridiculous blowjob of New Zealand in my first paragraph. You can also tell I'm fake by my implausable discovery of this website.
I'd be happy to assist you with your recording project but I fear I won't be able to get the toms sounding as good as the real Geoff Workman's toms in 'Just what I needed' by The Cars.
I do have a good battery operated cassette recorder and some tapes, and an electric mandolin - how much more gear would I need to record quiet Riots's version of 'Come on feel the noise'?

You know something, you never know who reads this website, I know for a fact some rather important people within the music world have read things on here, I'm not saying they're regular readers by any means, but it may not be as implausable as it seems that someone such as "geoff workman" discovers this site.
'I know for a fact some rather ...
'I know for a fact some rather important people within the music world have read things on here' actually reads; 'I myself know some rather important people within the music world, and I'm a nob-nob'. Sounds to me like the fake Geoff Workman tricked you and now you feel bummed because you can't add him to your list of famous associations.
Read between the lines nob-nob - it's not only Geoff's discovery but also his participation that should seem implausable. I'm sure Madonna reads all kinds of crap on the internet, but it's participation that counts, isn't it nob-nob?

He may well be a great guy, how would I know - you clearly are one of his buddies. I however am not one of his buddies, don't know him from a pair of underpants and I think his comments make him look like a total nob-nob. You are certainly right to protect and defend your friend from some internet bitch, and I'm also within my rights to illustrate someone's nerdy comments.
The thing that irritates me the most ...
The thing that irritates me the most about his comment is the way he places himself amongst 'the rather important people in the music world'. Regardless of whether he mixes with actaul musical heavyweights or not, his comments reek of self importance, and nobness. Based on these comments, he's not the sort of person I would consider 'a very good man'. Perhaps they were badly chosen words and I should give him the benefit of the doubt,
There's no need to give me the benifit ...
There's no need to give me the benifit of doubt " geoffworkman" unlike many on this board I don't hide who I am or what I do or who I associate with, I am me. I don't need to "place myself amongst rather important people in the music world " I am amongst rather important people in the music world, mostly on a daily basis and I do mix with musical .. and film .. you missed that one ... heavyweights also almostly on a daily basis. What's your point ? If you think I look down on people fine, am condesending fine I'm sure those that know me and have meet me from this board or have been posting with me here awhile can draw there own conclusions. Truth is I don't really care what you think "geoffworkman" your post almost reaks of teen angst .. maybe even jealousy ? what I said above is true you never know who's on here or read things on here ... and now Geoff Workmans name's plastered all over this site someone may just stumble over it, and I'm sure he'll be well impressed with the top notch posting going on .. nob-nob signing off :-) oh and Heather, Jackie .. :-) ta .
On the indentity issue - the internet ...
On the indentity issue - the internet is a place of annonimity, if one prefers it. People can share their ideas freely without concern about implicating their actual selves. It's a pretty liberating from of communication. I still don't know who you are, where you live, your job, or even your name. You'll no doubt rush to tell me because their probably very 'important'. You on the other hand see the internet as place where you can further extend your desire for importance - a place your ideas must be married to your indentity, otherwise what's the point? Who will know who I am and how important I am? I don't think you're a nobface because you prefer to reveal yourself on the net, I'm just defending my position on the identity point.
I do however think you are a nobface for other reasons.
I work with absolute musical monsters, almost on a daily basis. People with no hope in hell of ever becoming 'important'. Typically, my clients have mental illnesses, sometimes physical disabilities. So I guess I mix with the 'heavyweights' of the unimportant and forgotten musical world. Are your musical heavywieghts more important than my musical heavywieghts? All your attitudes so far imply that this is the case. And to answer your question, based on the attitudes expressed in your comments, yes you are condescending and do look down on people.

It's not your fault that your not very informed about mental health, but as it happens, many people working in the mental health field (from accountants to therapists) are or have been mental health service users themselves. It makes sense for people with a history mental illness to work in this area for all kinds or reasons that are hopefully obvious to you. With support and medication, people who are suffering or have once sufferred from serious mental illness can work normal jobs. Funny eh Mr Comedian!
I am a phycologist and therefore I cannot practice if I've had any history of mental illness.

Mansion: At risk of reviving a dying flamewar, I really have to throw in a get your hand off it.
FOR FUTURE REFERENCE: Of all the multitudes of nzmers that deserve to have the piss taken out of them every now and then, wainuiomata is the rare exception. He's always been honest about his work, and he doesn't have an arrogant bone in his body. If you'd followed this trainwreck more carefully, and if you had any clue at all about wainui, you'd realise he was merely responding to accusations, expressed and implied, that the nzm community are somehow lame idiot no-lifes for corresponding with a fake login. He wasn't bragging, he was defending his mates.
I wouldn't have bothered responding, especially to a n00b, but I resent anyone bagging wainui, he's never been anything but a bloody good guy and he deserves a lot better than the pathetically uninformed psychological critique you've puked up.

Yeah, what Heather said. I was lucky enough to meet Wainui last year, and he is a true gentleman.

Look H, I'm not a nOOb. It's MPD - you know, trent, soulsista, ponamu, all those fuckwits. Mansion, blamecanada and Geoffworkman are my next generation of fuckwits. It's time to need some help again, my life is all screwy. You should see my actual life, I'm layers of people everywhere. I've lost track of the many parents/sisters/brothers I've invented. As youi know, I work two jobs as two different people in two different cities fuck sake. I can't keep it up.
Anyway, I'm fucking sorry everyone. And my albums out soon.

OK, I just wasn't 100% sure it was you; this latest set of fuckwits didn't quite display your usual panache (or perhaps the extent of your fractured genius has just well surpassed my expectations). I was needling with the n00b comment to provoke an admission.

//Anyway, I'm fucking sorry everyone.
BTW, just curious, why apologise now? Given your predilection for conjuring up nutcases that make inflammatory comments, aren't honest retorts what you're after? Invoking the consummate nzm knee-jerk circle-jerk? You're very good at it.

Man you're good. That noob shit drove me crazy, instant admission. The apologies are just putting this horrible new bunch to rest, apart from mansion's continuing discussions with that recliner singer, I'm determined to get her to stop using the dots.

Anyway I can't run with psychologist guise anymore because of my dumb spelling mistake, so I'm out of here.
Apolodies to everyone I've insulted, I'm certain you're all nice people. You're right, I do assume different personalities to bag people on the internet. The truth is it helps me write songs, and most of my songs are about NZ musicians (it's a theme central to my life - if I was a computer programmer, I'd write songs about that).

Firstly, I'm not a 'he' and secondly your 'precious time' as you put it would be much better spent not making anymore recordings. Hey, and if you want to see unusual, check out all the....dots between your phrases. Perhaps nobody has ever told you - you only need one, it's called a full stop and it creates pockets of words called sentences.
