Hope the trip's going great guns joanna, enjoy san fran, I'd like to do Halloween in America someday, I've got an American mate over here, two years ago he and a couple of guys from work got together to put on a Halloween party, it went down a treat ! couldn't do it last year due to work and various other bits and bobs .. main one being we couldn't get the run down church across the road .. but this year we managed to hire a large room at the old town hall, the guys put a lot of effort into getting things sorted, and it turned out to be yet another great party ! My mate Derek has put his pic's up on his flicker site there's 448 .. down from almost 700 !! ... I've put the link so if you have a spare half hour to kill, and you fancy looking at aload of people you don't know in fancy dress, then go ahead ... ;-)

Ah yeah, the dancing girls .. :-) we had a burlesque show, as I'm sure the pics show, my mates and I went to a show at the Bethnal green working mens club a good few months ago, as a girl we know hosts the burlesque show there, we kinda liked it and thought it would be quirky to have them there, we also had .. well two members and backing tracks ... of a goth band called witching hour, and a great ska band called Big Hand, and plenty of food and drink .. heaps of drink, everyone was asked to bring a drink, either in a green bottle or a green drink, a number of people suffered .. :-) I left off and got home at 2 am ish others went on till 8 am ish !!

I can't ever bring myself to consume anything that's passed its use by date, I even feel a bit gross about consuming something on its 'last day' of freshness

Apparently the rule of thumb is don't (do not, never ever, under any circumstances, ON PAIN OF EXCRUCIATING BACTERIAL ONSLAUGHT) consume anything if its use-by date has expired, even if it looks fine. Foods that have a best-before date can be kept / consumed after any old eon, provided they still look & smell ok.

it's good to age meat though. some chefs/cuisines value a proper aged slab of flesh. i'm sure Rick Stein has gone on about it somewhere.

i've only been sick via food once (and that was being careless with preparing a roast chook) ... i take the best before as a negotiable challenge. i figure if i cook the heck out of it, it won't hurt me. :D does no one else think/cook/eat like a cheap desperate student?

I've eaten stuff that's been in my bag for a week, if it smells ok, just eat it.

I drink straight from the bottle, but coz I buy my own food in my flat, that's ok (and a disincentive for people to steal my milk!).

I used to go for blue, but have switched to yellow recently. All those healthy eating things are scaring me haha.
