my friend is doing some sort of cancer campaign where she gets people to sponsor her to shave her head and gives the money to kids with cancer. i think it's kinda silly and that she should just go around asking people to donate money if they wish, but it reminded me of a few years back when i was in Nelson a barber was shaving people's head for it and if a woman was willing to shave her head $100 would go to the charity - but no woman in town on that Saturday afternoon who walked past the Cathedral was willing to. sorry to be so "i wouldn't understand 'cos i'm not a woman" but hey girls that's pretty pathetic, i can't believe not everyone wanted to go up to get their heads shaved. but again, the symbolic gesture i think is dumb and people should just donate
and here's a question, what does everyone like the most about themselves?

RH, I can certainly understand why ...
RH, I can certainly understand why women with long hair wouldn't want to do it. It takes farking ages if you hair grows even vaguely slowly. And there's an intermediate stage when your hair is long enough to be annoying, but not long enough to be tied back. Although I guess you could probably use hairclips or a headband to hold it back, but its not everybody's thing.
Either way, I think if your hair is part of how you see yourself, it's a pretty big move to make a wholesale change.

Yeah, 4100 ain't much for what could be 2 years worth of hair!
I made a pact not to cut my hair at all this year, coz I've never had it anything near long before, and by this late stage it is still not very long ... hardly even made it far down my neck yet.

Somewhat amusingly, most salons also continue with their sex-based charging system regardless of hair length. That is, as a guy with long hair, you may pay up to a third of what a female would for pretty much the same haircut. And because guys don't tend to fall for the 6 weekly trim with long hair ("to keep it in good condition" or some shit), they guy version can actually be a lot more work. heh.

Actually, I'm not sure that it will. I think most guys would rather cut their own hair than shell out women's prices!! So, it's sort of a social good/commercial imperative. If you want guys to not cut their own long hair, you need to not charge them over about $35 for a haircut.

I dunno about doing it themselves, but the old girlfriend haircut is popular with the guys and girls I know.
Personally, I'd never pay over 35, when all I reallyly get done is shaving and a bit of a cut on top.

I used to do it myself. With 2 mirrors set up, the back-to-front skills you learn shaving, and enough length it's not too hard. I guess having semi-curly hair helped as well.

ummm .. ah ... haircuts, not something I really worry about ... hair :-) but that said, I'm a do it yourself kinda bloke when it comes time for a trim. It costs £6 at Mr toppers just to have a head shaved, so I brought a babyliss clipper set for £16 about two years ago and done my own ever since, thinking of studying Topiary for the beard thou, just for something alittle different ..

Got to work on the girlfriend part of things, but yeah it works out about every two months or so feel I need a trim and it only takes 5 mins to do a quick check with a mirror and hey presto, a clean shave, and a saving of £6 .. which can be better spent on guinness or cider :-)

Are you asking a question? You misogynist bastard.
You're just such a fucking loser. Every post you make reeks of idiocy. Save money on your charitable donations (because I'm sure you GIVE HEAPS) and spend some of that money on buying yourself a brain with which to make with the intelligence. Because you're severely lacking.

I think more like it - there was an unspoken agreeance that you were nuts! People are free to do whatever they want, you don't know how much they give to charity in private, and even if they give nothing, that is their choice. Personally, if a girl I knew got their hair shaved for no other reason than to get 100 bucks for a charity, I would say she was loopy.

I am a little confused, RH. First you say you don't think shaving off of hair is something that has value, in terms of raising money, and then you slag off people who don't want to shave their hair off. I wouldn't normally reply to this post, or any of yours really - let's face it, life is too short to indulge inanity of any sort - however, I feel compelled to question if you really have raised a social issue. Isn't it just more inane questions you're asking? Isn't a more pertinent question to ask people, oh I don't know, something like " To what ends would you go to save someone you love?" or maybe " How do you feel about organ donation?". My husband had leukemia 10 years ago, and survived against the odds. I tried to give blood but wasn't allowed. If I could have had the intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy for him, I would have. If I could have had all my teeth pulled out, instead of him having to because his saliva glands necrotised, I would have. If I could have taken his pain, that he's still in, away - I would do. But I can't. Nobody can. And that is why people shave their head for charity, because they want to do something, to feel useful. Others give time and money. Lots of money. Some visit or volunteer at Hospices. What do you do, RH?
I should add - value your friend. ...

i do value my friend, the point i was making in my first post was basically that it's silly to have the concept of shaving your head for money to be donated, but since $100 would have gone to the charity to have a woman's head shaved, why aren't the women lining up to do this?
ps. and i don't need to justify or ...
ps. and i don't need to justify or show off the charitable things i do (Matthew chapter 6). although it would shut people up from making all sorts of judgments, and it's ironic people are calling me self-righteous etc. when it's them who are telling me to put my money where my mouth is, and blowing off about how much lower i am than them (assuming the "i suppose you give heaps" was sarcastic) when i don't even talk about what i do
regarding people giving time and other sorts of donations, it doesn't change the fact that it's an opportunity for an EXTRA $100 for ten minutes and some hair
