In keeping with the tradition of the Scrolls, some other band performs each of the nominated songs - I heard that the Mint Chicks performed Anika's 'Stolen Hill', Jubilation Choir did 'Bathe in the River', Spacifix did 'The Pool', the Tutts did 'Miracle Sun', and the North Shore Pony Club and Arradhna did 'Running'.
I agree that perhaps it's not the most representative of Don McG's work, but I can't say I hate the song, either. It was a great way to introduce Hollie Smith to an even bigger audience.
Don McG said the Mint Chicks did an awesome job in his interview on TVNZ (clip on the tvnz site) and said that the ceremony was cool because there was a lot of booze and it wasn't "an industry bottom sniffing" event.
Kudos to the guy who has taken out heaps of mortgages on his house and worked shitty jobs just to keep the music going.
Fuck yeah, the weakest thing Don has ever done. We've had Muttonbirds playing in our house since forever, my Dad was in their fan club and all sorts, and the new album is just as brilliant as his other stuff. I heard Miracle Sun for the first time when Don performed at the Kings Arms and when the chorus shift hits it was one of those "this is what music is all about" moments, simply brilliant, great lyrics, great everything. SJD is a killer bassist too.
And yeah, Bathe in the River, what Sam said. Cliched, with a painfully lame video.
maybe it's kinda like the Oscars - Don's body of work, current tune not so utterly brilliant, but hey, the guy deserves some recognition, type of deal.
you may be right iluvtheclean, i not no Don hater, just thought that trak was awful.
Hmmm, my pick would have been The Pool but that was never gonna win. Its just rubbish how the silver scrolls pretend to be about 'the song' and go all the press goes on about it not having the comercial bent of other awards...so what the fact the Not Many was a HUGE hit had nothing to do with beating Trinity Roots' effort that year Home, Land and Sea?
Hello rope, I emailed you twice early last week, at the gmail address with your name in it, and cc'd one of those to your hotmail address. I haven't received a response. Plz check & contact me at the gmail addy on my profile. kthxbye
Also, I like the evermore song, and I WAY prefer miracle sun to bathe in the river.
excuse me, but I have a new song and I need some help. Can you please record yourself saying "Hey Man! We're sick of your stupid war" and email it to stlucy@gmail.com also ask your friends and family to do the same. Its really easy, use windows sound recorder... start menu, all programmes, accesories, entertainment, sound recorder. Record, save, attach and send. , If you have fancy recording software or are using a mac, then its way easier I guess.
Its not that I really understand all the things going on in the world, not at all. But I see alot of people getting killed lately and it all seems to have a common theme, god, allah, jesus and Oil. At the end of the day, embedding projectiles of any metal into living human tissue is a stupid way to resolve issues, be they american made ordnance, home made cellphone bombs or any of boeings fine products... Get your kids to record it, record it in any language you want, eg; "ehoa, he koretake to riri" etc. I promise, I will make no money off this and its just because I don't know any other way to express my outrage. If I was an iraqi, I would be in lebanon helping to difuse cluster bomb fragments, but as it stands I'm a lame arse songwriter in Mt. Maunganui. So this is my gig. Join in.
