I'm not saying there are "other reasons". I'm saying all the meta-stories around the issue are bullshit. All the "oh we don't normally report these kind of rumours, but this might impact on his abiliity to blah blah blah" is bullshit. There seemed to be more stories about "why this is news" than actual substance.

The Press political editor said last night that he'd been aware of the rumour for 2 years. It was left alone all that time, and although Labour were needling him about it in the house, may have stayed that way. The change came when either the Independant Financial Review chose to run a story (or were enabled to run a story by someone making it a not off-the-record allegation of it). Supposedly, given the deadline of that paper, the allegation had to have been made before the caucus meeting. So now that it was on record, it's sort of fair game, but they all feel the need to explain why it's now on record, given that it's such old news. Of course, it's also big because, well, it's The Don.

i heard that he didn't even make these scores off his own back but that his caucaus made good use of the decriminalisation of prostitution to frame teh poor bastard.
